rollrgrl, you have been pressing your own emotional buttons over this.

Obama was 8 years old when these people did what they did.

Don't mix him up with it. And dont blame him for the deaths of those cops.

I am sure Obama has consorted with thousands of people in the course of his public life. Is he responsible for every toe-sucker or nose-picker, every time someone might have farted in an elevator and looked at someone else?

Focus on what he does nd says. You are being sucked into the slime teams that have been going over everything and everyone in his life trying to dig up dirt and get the kind of reaction that you are experiencing.

Dont be manipulated.

sorry to disappoint but i'm not getting emotional over anything. i already said i won't vote for him due to higher taxes and no viable energy plan. YOU were the one who got shrill and aggressive. remember? the name calling? jeesh! and really, i'm don't consider myself democrat or republican. labels are stupid and force people into thinking very narrowly. if i HAD to put a label on, it'd be far closer to constitutionalist.

again, not being sucked into anything. higher taxes are bad, especially right now. no viable energy plan is worse. honestly, i wish wright would get to writing his book and shut the fk up so we can hear more about the REAL issues

if by cops you're referring to the brinks guard montreal guy mentioned, we were talking about the clintons. not obama. try to keep up

you are perfectly well entitled to your opinion as i am to mine. if i think it should be of a concern who the president surrounds himself with, i will and i won't apologize for it. if you don't, good for you. you are absolutely entitled to feel that way and you shouldn't apologize for it. while i am a reasonable, intelligent adult who doesn't have to whine and name call when some one has a disagreement with me, i think you should probably spend a little time in time out and really think about it. i'm sure you're a very nice person who is simply hiding behind the internet, try to remember that there are actual people on the other side of the screen reading what you type

at any rate, i hope you have a very nice thursday and gas prices aren't squeezing you too hard. and i meen that

rollergrl, ok, I've spent a whole evening in the doghouse and want to answer this before I go to work.

Taxes and no energy plan, eh?

Our current "energy plan" seems to be domination of oil-producing countries so we can control the flow of oil, which seems to be to the advantage of Big Oil because we arent getting any break at the pumps and we are the ones mortgaging our futures to pay for the effort. McCain seems to want to continue that.

I've looked at Obama's website and there are energy programs all through it, I really dont know what youre talking about. HIs opposition to the summer gas tax bene? Most economists agree that is a bad idea.

As far as higher taxes go, I have only heard him talk about ending the tax breaks for the rich and moving those breaks to the middle class, so that actually lowers our tax in the future. Also, getting us out of Viet Nam.......whoops, I mean Iraq ......means hundreds of billions if not more trillions we dont spend, so cost avoidance is just as good as a tax break.

I honestly dont see your concern.

My thoughts, though, are that we are going to have to pay at the pump and pay and pay until we start ending production of SUVs and the like and stimulate some real effort at high mileage cars. Business as usual just isnt doing it, there has to be consumer demand. It will hurt the auto industry, but theyve had years to prepare for this........and the Japs are way ahead. We pay far less for gas than Canadians and Europeans do.

Also, when Obama takes office, he is going to be faced with the same realities everyone else would be: a massive federal deficit, trade imbalence, shrinking job makret, increasing uninsured, massive withdrawals from SS and Medicare .......any agenda they come to the white house with gets smashed to bits, anyway .... but I see him as someone who will fight for the common man and woman through those battles and hopefully win a few for us.

With what's gone on over the last eight years or so, no matter who wins, this is an almost unavoidable fact of life.

You can't go on robbing Peter to pay Haliburton , without a day of reckoning eventually showing up. That tax rebate you got....is coming off of next years tax return.

That means less revenue then, and the debt still gets added to in the meantime.

That's a ball and chain that's already been slapped on the next President - Republican or Democrat.

It's like getting that first credit card. It's great, until that first bill arrives - and you realize you have to pay it.

I don't mind the having to pay a little more in taxes, I just don't want my hard earned tax dollars going to feed the poor in the world, to aids relief in Africa, to La Raza, or to reparations........Our Tax dollars are needed to repair America.....

Actually the things mentioned in my post are things that Obama supports or supported this is part of where our tax dollars will go, imagine where the rest will go if he is elected...

Insolent1, with what we have spent in Iraq, we could have fed and educated and clothed the world many, many times over. Huge things could have been done.

But you, of course, favor $16 million dollar missles over feeding hungry families you don't know.

Its funny how liberals always bring the war into the conversation and the cost..I am against the war in Iraq continuing ,the money could be used to help our economy and our citizens...as for not caring about others in the world, it is not that I don't care its that I think we need to fix our problems first, then we should help others.

insolent1 ... the cost of doing a lot of good for a lot of people in very inexpensive compared to the cost of war .... if I misjudge you, I am sorry but this country has spent an obscene amount of our tax money on war and weapons of war .. think of it, those "bunker buster" bombs alone are $16 million each.

We took a pot shot at Saddam in the early stages of the "war" ...ended up killing some poor **stard or two in the area ..... ..two of them at a cost of $32 million ... any idea of what just that little $32 million alone could do for humanitarian purposes?

I noted your concerns about reparations, aid to Africa, Hispanics, etc. and they probably belie some fear you have about Obama getting into the White House and just giving all "our money" away to black people ..... I honestly don't think you need to worry about that.

It is the lies - the ongoing lies! People with little education, ignorant people - possessed with hateful, discrimination and preducial acts etc., are the ones that keep the madness going!

I, for one. refuse to listen to or hear, anyone to call me a minority - MINORITY???A "Minority of what? Of "WHO?" Is this referring to the color of my skin? Then if it is - there are more "people" of color in the US then you can count! Even the Census Bureau does not have the correct count and it is 2008.

"Minority of what?" Education? Go Figure!
"Minority of What?" Beauty? Go Figure!

Why, why, why, can't people just be considered as a human beings living in the US, trying to make a positive difference, in and for. the lifes of the less financially, legally unrepresented, uneducated, poverty-strickened people? Why can't people just be inspiring human beings for the others that are striving to make it or just need a helping hand? I guess these questions are just too simplistic! It is just tooooo simplistic for all of us to come together and be "one"..

I do hope someone has the foresight to play "Blazing Saddles" on the night before the election.

The more I hear in this discussion of the current state of American political rhetoric, the more it reminds me of that great movie , and Bart's entrance into town as the new town sheriff.

[as the townspeople point guns at Bart, the newly arrived sheriff]

Reverend Johnson: Gentlemen, gentlemen, allow not hatred to rule the day.
[holds up his Bible]

Reverend Johnson: As your spiritual leader, I implore you to pay heed to this good book and what it has to say!

[Townspeople shoot the Bible, blowing it apart]

Reverend Johnson: [to Bart] Son, you're on your own.

As far as this war goes - Obama was against it. Bill Clinton stood right next to Bush while they stated, "Bring it on!" And thus the war in Irag began? Haliburton, etc., stepped in and makes billions.... Bush is the highest paid president that the US has ever had...and the little man suffers...

"Bring it on" has cost us a lot of lost husbands, sons, fathers, nephews, nieces, sisters and mothers in this one-sided war. How can you war with people living in sand and throwing rocks? How can you overthrow a ruler that is hiding in a hole in the ground or sitting out his days in a cave? How do you declare or even justify a war on a country where three citizens of a different country died with the plane crashed into the twin towers?

"Bring it on" has closed the shelters and food banks and has made many of us lose our jobs to feed and shelter our families. However, to a few, "Bring it on" means that they have to give up their SUVS and lose their over priced market homes! And yet, "Bring it on" means that are families are divided and separating and it is tearing American's lives apart because we have once again destroyed billions of people whose only assets was that lived on an oil-enriched land. However, the media will have you focus on one sourly little player-hating minister who just so happened to marry a couple of a person that may be able to help us out of this madness!

Quiet as kept, I am a female if you have not noticed. It is going to take a man (a real man) to lead us up and out of this madness...NO MODERN DAY COUNTRY NOR ANY THIRD WORLD COUNTRY rulers, leaders, Czars or whatever are going to listen, NOR RESPECT, ANY WOMAN - BE-SHE President, of the United States of America or Mary Magdelene resurrected. They don't even recognize nor repect Condoleeza Rice!!! Women, even here in the US, are to be seen, not heard (unless you are OPRHA)... So maybe, just maybe, it takes a REAL MAN - who looks like he is Black but called a African, with a Mother that is White, but has an African name which wrongly is translatted into being a Muslim name, attended a Black Church, Plays basketball; graduated from an Ivy League University, and has danced with the wolves...to have this opportunity to step up to the plate and just maybe, make this world a little better place to live in, for a minute? What more do you have to lose except to look forward to being ambused with sniper bullets while visiting Bosnia?

To Montreal_Guy:

I remember Blazing Saddles and the entire town with all the people bearing the last name of JOHNSON! I can attest to that... name of johnson abounds in my family in Texas... (AHA)!

And I do remember all those commercials about Beans - Bush Beans. Beans are the primary cause of GAS!

I don't quite know where I am going with this....

Not a bush fan here , however one has to wonder if we did not go into the war and Saddam did get weapons and used them on us or any country for that matter if you would have blamed Bush for that also. Saddam was an evil mad man and needed to be stopped .You know that ,I know that ,and the rest of the world knows that ,which is why it was a coalition effort. And still is.

One day I truly hope that man hunts the man and not the country/region. This could be attained with an International Law, which some very scary heads of state oppose, tooth and nail.

Get the pose,
gitty-up.
