| What do you drive or ride.......We want to know............ Posted: 5/21/2008 7:48:49 PM | | We play bumper cars at 80 miles per hour on the freeway so I thought it would be best to move up to a 6,000 pound F250 Super Duty. Back in the war I drove a 52 ton M-60 tank. As an added bonus you could fire a round or two for effect. Wish I had one of those for freeway driving. Of course it only got 2 miles per gallon and it had at 500 gallon gas tank. | |

| What do you drive or ride.......We want to know............ Posted: 6/3/2008 7:10:37 PM | someone said dream machine,
My ultimate dream machine would be a 1970 model 429 BOSS Mach 1 Mustang. There were just ove 800 of them built before being taken off the market. It was said the the engines in that particular model were 20 years ahead of their time. there were plenty of regular 429's, and 429 cobra jets, but the 429 BOSS is a rare item.

| What do you drive or ride.......We want to know............ Posted: 6/4/2008 8:47:33 AM | I drive what I sometimes call my "middle age crazy" car. Its a 2000 Mercedes CLK430 convertible, in Firemist Red. Had it since its new, long since paid for so NO payments, which I love!
My favorite vehicle ever was my beloved vintage Cessna 210 which I owned and flew for almost 15 years, before having to give it up due to ever-rising costs a few years ago.
ahoytheredave I stay away, far away, from pompus vehicles and try to stay away from European rides. It seems their wiring attracts rodents. Not exactly sure what a "pompus" vehicle is, but pompous is in the eye of the beholder. To some, your Grand Cherokee might be pompous, so its best not to judge. And what the hell do you mean with that crazy statement about European cars' wiring attracting rodents?
|
| What do you drive or ride.......We want to know............ Posted: 6/4/2008 9:58:22 AM | Pompus vehicle: More of a status symbol than transportation. Although often costing several times what a vehicle of comparable features, its more for "show off" than transportation. From a practicle standpoint, I suppose some could argue a pompus car could be therapy for those needing ego reinforcement. (clearly not my problem) A Grand Cherokee with full time four wheel drive has adequate weight, power, and wheel base to tow trailers comfortably and go places other vehicles can't. It has lower CG than most SUVs yet far better body brush protection than most. It handles the ranch, the boats, the beach, and the scouts quite well. There are plenty of pompus SUVs that cost a lot more but do not have all the capabilities. I actually drove my Jeep a couple of weeks ago. Went to the ranch to check on things and tow a boat back. It has been parked since but I need to get it inspected this month. When electrics become available, I will get one probably still drive something like the Jeep when I need it.
As for rodents going after European car wiring, that's a matter of experience and has been discussed on car talk on NPR. Most recent was a friend's Mini (made by BMW) had its wiring attacked within 3 months of purchase.
Midnite, I used to have a 70 Boss 302. (It replaced my Hemi) It had plenty of reserve at 150 but without a front airdam, the front would start to take off and that limited its speed. I sold it a couple of decades ago for more than I paid for it. Nice when gas was $0.23 a gallon.

| What do you drive or ride.......We want to know............ Posted: 6/4/2008 11:49:59 AM | C'mon Dave, I'd think a 53 year old degreed engineer would at least know how to spell "pompous" if he's going to try to use it in messages.
Again, "pompous" is in the eye of the beholder, and since my dictionary says its a synonym for "arrogant" than I think your attitude qualifies as pompous, actually!
As for rodents and European cars and NPR, it may have been discussed there, but its still bunk and an urban myth. My Benz is almost 9 years old, I owned another turbodiesel Benz sedan for 13 years before that and have yet to have a car attacked by any crazed rodents.

| What do you drive or ride.......We want to know............ Posted: 6/4/2008 7:05:43 PM | DalFly I'm not of fan of "pompous" spelling like colour and flavour either.
I suppose I could use "pretentious" or "snooty" for the exhibition of conspicuous consumption. "Oh lord won't you buy me a chevy or toyota, my friends all drive fords, I must make amends." just doesn't carry the same materialistic message. Yes, pompous is in the eye of the beholder, although it may be tinted by designer sun glasses. Does the Bentley driver look down on the Ferrari driver?
I am glad you have not had the problem with chewed up wiring. Statistics say you won't but some will and its very expensive. If you knew much about rodents, you would know they need to eat a lot and chew even more. Their teeth grow rapidly and need to be kept worn down. Perhaps specific scents of European wiring appeals to them. Does that make the rodents crazed?

| What do you drive or ride.......We want to know............ Posted: 6/4/2008 8:18:38 PM | Gentlemen..... PLEASE take your bickering out of the forum and into the street where it belongs. This forum was to get people taking to each other as an ice breaker, NOT a one-up or put-down forum. If you NEED to continue ya'lls little disagreement, then please just email each other. If you need to continue this disagreement even more, then please ask for each others phone numbers, but for The Good Lord's sake, PLEASE LEAVE US INNOCENT BY-STANDERS OUT OF YOUR ARGUMENT!!! I will now get off my soap box so others can tell what their current ride, their first, and their "dream machine" is so that we will all know for funnsies!!
By the way, my "dream machine" is a F350 extended cab 4X4 lifted 6" and sporting 35" mudders with a diesel powerplant!!

| What do you drive or ride.......We want to know............ Posted: 6/5/2008 7:08:17 AM | At no time did I ever mention any person's pick in rides. I only commented on what characteristic of a ride I would not pick for myself and I was jumped on for it even though it was not a response to anyone nor did I mention any specific type of vehicle, make or model in my comment. If someone is offended because I am not impressed by status cars, well sorry to deflate your ego but that's my honest opinion.
TexF, as for your pick of a F350, I borrowed one simiar to that to make a pickup at a lumber yard. That vehicle is one of the best vehicles made for serious work. When I drove it in the yard to load it, a worker there came out and hugged the truck saying "my baby". Now that's shameless affection for a ride so Tex, your not alone.
I wonder how many women are on POF because they gave their man an ultimatum between his ride or her and she lost?

Now I drive a sports car cause the only person I have to please now is me.
