| Nostalgia Thread - favorite tv shows from when you were a kid Posted: 5/1/2008 9:49:05 PM | | It's funny. Just the other night I was in a room full of friends, and we were trying to find a contemporay example of an "anonymous legacy" that we'd all recognize despite our different backgrounds. I then simply said the words, "And the agony of defeat." and that pretty much summed that one up. lol. Poor Yugoslavian guy. | |

| Nostalgia Thread - favorite tv shows from when you were a kid Posted: 5/1/2008 9:51:33 PM | How about "The Bugs Bunny Show"? I used to watch cartoons with my dad every Saturday morning. Wiley Coyote, Road Runner and THE anvil!
Eh, what's up, Doc?
<div class='quote'>And the agony of defeat. It wasn't "Wide World of Sports", just bad shoes.................LOL

| Nostalgia Thread - favorite tv shows from when you were a kid Posted: 5/1/2008 9:51:40 PM | there's a generation gap.
for you younger kids out there (lol), indeed it was the Wide World of Sports. The skier was on the Yugoslav Olympic Team one year. I'll have to think of the year. Must have been Winter Olympics about '68 or '72.
CORRECTION: It was not Olympics. It was 1970, which back then of course was not an Olympic year since they didn't offset them from Summer Olympic years until decades later. Here's a reference on what happened for "The Agony of Defeat" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Agony_of_Defeat
Ya gotta read the wikipedia article all the way through. It culminates in this quote from the skier in 2002. This is too funny!:
"Every time I'm on ABC, I crash." —Vinko Bogataj, having suffered a minor car accident in a hotel parking lot while on his way to be interviewed by ABC's Terry Gannon. (Reported in the Los Angeles Times, December 8, 2002)

| Nostalgia Thread - favorite tv shows from when you were a kid Posted: 5/1/2008 9:57:13 PM | Boomer in 1969 I was 6 years old and much too mature for Sesame Street. I think I was enthralled with Josie and the **** Cats and Johnny Quest on Saturday mornings.
Now, although I am enjoying this thread alot, I have to go to bed, otherwise you will all be my excuse for not getting up and going to the gym in the morning.

The characters in the monkey suits are very famous people from the early days. I'm not going to look it up but I think Carl Reiner, or Steve Allen, Edie Adams and Ernie Kovacs. Different guests would play different parts. Much of Ernie Kovacs' work was copied in later shows like Laugh-In...
Corrected... wrong Edie - also Gorillas included Jack Lemon and Frank Sinatra.

| Nostalgia Thread - favorite tv shows from when you were a kid Posted: 5/2/2008 9:40:55 AM | Get Smart -- for the intro. Batman -- for the fight scenes. Wait 'Til Your Father Gets Home. Loved the intro Yogi Bear. What a piece of work! He could steal your picnic basket and smile like he was your best friend. Along with Huckleberry Hound, Hokey Wolf, et al When I was in 1st and 2nd grade -- Welcome Back Kotter was the show I looked forward all week to seeing. Sanford and Son. I thought the music was funny. And one of my earliest memories is watching Grady hide the radio in the freezer. Hilarious! I also liked anything I was allowed to stay up late and watch. Mary Tyler Moore. I was in love with her M*A*S*H. Used to think Hawkeye was the funniest guy in the world WWF Wrestling from Madison Square Garden Wonderful World of Disney Top Cat. When I was little I watched it religiously Looney Tunes!!! | |

| Nostalgia Thread - favorite tv shows from when you were a kid Posted: 5/2/2008 2:17:36 PM | I refused to read all previous posts... as I'm highly influenced by others
I loved the Brady Bunch and Bewitched (oh how I wish I could put spells on others with a twitch of my nose!)
Another show I think was very influential during my son's toddlerhood (1996-99) was "Little Bear". To this day I thank "Little Bear" for instilling the manners and goodness my son has today!!!
I also have all the "Little Critter" books that always brought a tear to my eye at those bedtime readings! Anyone know why a 13-yr-old doesn't want bedtime stories anymore?
