| Nostalgia Thread - favorite tv shows from when you were a kid Posted: 5/7/2008 9:41:54 AM | Nobody has mentioned one of the funniest shows ever "The Real McCoys" starring my favorite actor of all time, Walter Brennan. The only actor to win 3 Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor.
Someone already listed "The Soupy Sales Show", but I think it needs repeating. What a clever, funny guy! And someone who never got the credit he deserved, Soupy's original puppeteer, Clyde Adler, who was the originator and voices for White Fang, Black Tooth, Pookie, Hippie, and everyone who came to Soupy's door.

| Nostalgia Thread - favorite tv shows from when you were a kid Posted: 5/7/2008 5:58:23 PM | Do you mean James A. Mitchner's Aventures in Paradise?... never heard of it. Hmmm Mitchener's work might have been the inspiration for it, but it wasn't at all like the book as I remember the series. There was a ship (purpose not remembered) that put into port in Tahiti?? Some dark haired, good looking guy was the star--think he owned the ship... I was just an impressionable pre-teen so what do I know about what it was really ?? He was gorgeous, the scenery was sheer fantasy, and the music was great--I was a goner! LOL Mr Lucky was another one. Maaaan there's been a lot of TV over the years. OKAY,Okay, I couldn't stand it any more. I googled it and sure enough it was "loosely based on" Mitchener's work. He quit being involved after a few episodes because it wasn't as good as he had expected. Captain Troy was a Korean vet ferrying beautiful rich women around the islands on an 82 ft schooner, the Tiki. and solving mysteries. Hmmm an early seafaring James Bond? No wonder I liked it? :wreath:

| Nostalgia Thread - favorite tv shows from when you were a kid Posted: 5/7/2008 6:21:59 PM | From http://www.fiftiesweb.com/tv/adventures-in-paradise.htm
At first filming was done on the 20th Century Fox backlot and critics complained. So they began doing some exteriors in the South Pacific. James Michener, after selling the idea to TV execs, backed out of the project.

did anyone mention "Gidget"??? not so much the original movie with Sandra Dee, but the tv series with Sally fields...........then Fields zipping around as Sister Bertrille on "The flying Nun". Sally Field is a longtime favorite and I'm glad she still is still working.
I used to think that nuns could fly. I was a kid visiting a neighbor and her sister who was a nun was staying at her house for a day or days. She took off her head covering and when I saw it on the table I wanted to ask her if she could fly. I voiced my concerns to my parents who immediately shhed me and told me not to ask her that, I couldn't figure out why they wouldn't let me ask the question and why they looked apprehensive that I would.
