Anythin having to do with suckin air outa anythin with straws, ho ho hoo, jus leave it alone. Plus, Trisha Yearwood ain't EVAH baked no chickin pie cause Garth would divorce her if she tried. I'd say both them are known well all over, at KFC, and sometimes, maybe to, Popeye's.

| I want to freeze this......HOW ?? Posted: 5/10/2008 10:55:51 AM | UPDATE:
Thanks for all the advice.I am definitely going to invest in vacuum seal later.I made the chicken pot pie.I used bisquick for the cover instead what the recipe called for.Very yummy a little soupy but I just used chicken not potatos or other veggies.Freezing it when a little soupy made it taste great after unfreezing it.
I thought I would try the straw method and got a kick out of it.But that would take alot of sucking LOL for all the air to get out.
Going to try the water in the bowl trick next that Americanrover suggested.
Again thanks for all the info very informative.

I've never had any success with freezing spagetti. But if you've got all the sauce mixed in with the noodles it's one of the most perfect foods for the microwave so you should keep it unfrozen for quick access for midnight with Conan. Or breakfast?

Posted: 5/15/2008 12:22:28 AM | I've been movin' near the backroads by the river of my memory and flashed on this in the archives of my brain as the standard operating procedure for freezing food from when I was a chef. Let it cool thoroughly then wrap tight with cling wrap, you know, saran, that way no air is getting trapped like with ziplock. Ok, wrap again with the plastic wrap just like the first time then wrap in foil. Wrap it in foil one more time as long as you got it there. Should be fine for at least 6 mo. if you have an efficient freezer.

Although my freezer is nicknamed the Hotel California for the obvious reason, I have pretty good luck with my method.

After you have filled it , and make sure you leave at least one inch from top for expansion, zip it almost closed and push out excess air. No need to spend extra money for a gadget. I have kept things for more than 6 mo. with no problem, use a "smoothie" pen, and happy freezing, especially in this day and age. Still have 3 turkeys from last Thanksgiving sales. They stay perfectly!!!

| I want to freeze this......HOW ?? Posted: 8/20/2009 4:45:11 PM | i went to my local meat market and asked for 5 chicken breasts. When i saw the total was $15, i thought that was rather high, until I got home and unwrapped the chicken to see 5 SETS of breasts lol. Which I was okay with, you can do so much with chicken. So tonight, I'm making chicken pot pies, but not for dinner. i want to freeze them for later. I am using store bought crust, in a roll, and will cook in a glass dish. My question is, can i just wrap with aluminum foil and freeze for next week? will it get freezer burn? i don't have any large ziplock bags, but I do have the cling wrap stuff. the mixture is enough to make 2 pies, which will make due for dinner and lunch next week, so they won't be frozen too long.
Will this work? | |

$15 for 5 full breasts ... you got a bargain and a half.

Posted: 8/22/2009 10:04:27 PM | One word ladies....Tupperware....Most of it is guaranteed for life (which means in most cases, you can replace it if it breaks or is defective), the freezer containers come with the little labels to put on everything so you know when you put it in the freezer and best of all....You're not sending excess plastic to the dump that will take forever to break down!
Just a thought after I read all the posts about vacum sealing in plastic bags and using straws w/ ziplock baggies!
|
| I want to freeze this......HOW ?? Posted: 8/22/2009 11:27:30 PM | The only problem with Tupperware is that you also trap a bunch of air in there when you close the lid. Sure it's closed tight. But you have excess air, which contains moisture which will freezer burn your food.
The big thing is to get the air out of the container before you pop it in the freezer. We have suggested a Vacuum sealer, which is the best but costliest method.
Cheap ways would be, Yup,, A straw and a zip lock!! :)
Now tupper ware for the refrigerator is great, since it won't be in there to long. But if you want to prevent freezer burn, you need to get the air out somehow.
Now if your worried about creating a lot of extra garbage to fill the dump. Just make and purchase smaller portions so you don't need to save anything. That way your not adding extra waste to the dump.
To each his own lifestyle.

| I want to freeze this......HOW ?? Posted: 10/18/2009 3:10:09 PM | Hi, I find that freezing anything fro too long is not a good idea. Food items that are well wrapped do not tend to freezer burn, however if you are having this problem consistently, maybe there is something wrong with your freezer. Good solid containers work well and plastic wrap over the container will definatley stop the freezer burn. good luck | |
