I hate anything to do with car maintenance/repairs, hate hate hate it, and I don't blame you for thinking first off, "I need a man to take care of this." As many pointed out above, he won't necessarily know how or be able to fix it. But chances are he won't admit as much, and will do whatever it takes to get the dang thing fixed and salvage his reputation as "a man." (Including, sometimes, pretending it's fixed when it's not.)

^^^^^ Kinda like women thinking they know the meaning behind the nuances of every slight move a man makes, eh? Of course, if she didn't pretend to know men, she couldn't maintain her delusion of emotional and psychological superiority.

DARN!!!!

You women now know ALL of our secrets!!!!!

You know what I find really funny. Some women are intent on letting men know that they don't need them.

There is an old saying that applies here - 'you don't have anything nice to say - don't say anything at all'.

I see way too many profiles that say 'I don't need a man. I want one.'

Why say anything like that at all? To me VERY unattractive.

How many men's profiles say - "I don't need a woman. I want one." ????

Yes, yes... Just say you are independent and a do-it-yourself'er - we get the picture already.

I should take more care to cite my sources. This insight comes from Dave Barry, humorist. Of course, it wouldn't be funny if there weren't a kernel of truth to it.

When my husband and I first split up this was just the thing that would send me into a spastic tear fest. There was always something around here that needed his attention. Through the last five years I have built up a rather good network of guy friends. Husbands of my girl friends, who will often help me with one little thing, before they get to their own wife's honey do list , guys from work who I brainstorm with about my latest household dilemma until they volunteer, or the ole stand by: the ex himself or guys I have dated and remain friends with. I'm just lucky I am such a sweetheart.

You took the trap apart the "u" shape piece under the sink cleaned that all out?

Most bathroom sink clogs are build up of hair and soap . If cleaning the trap out didn't work then you have to run a snake a steel coil down the rest of the pipe until you hit the main pipe. Normally in the basement you have a 90 that is the other place that will clog. In other words that is tough one to fix. I have some luck with a plunger on the sink.

Oh, honestly now! Good heavens. I don't get on a proverbial soapbox about many things, but when a woman writes and says things like this stereotypical statement, it really annoys me. Look. It's ridiculous to wail and moan about needing a man to fix things around the home, car, etc. I am happy to ask my friends for recommendations on auto repair shops, plumbers, lawn services, electricians, etc. (I have owned a home for about four years, and when I bought it, I knew I was going to have to allow room in the old budget for these items.) I know what I can do, and what I can't.

I am not about to snag a man and make a silly "honey-do" list because I don't have enough common sense to take care of those things myself. I'm sorry, but these kinds of complaints don't help women one bit and they just reinforce negative stereotypes. No wonder you guys get sick of us!

Whew! OK. Calm down...Now, I am very handy at putting together furniture, hanging towel bars, pictures, and so forth. Love power tools!

I knew my position was not the most PC, but I never imagined I'd ANNOY you. What a pity, that you should have to be ANNOYED by how somebody else really feels.

But then on the other hand, I'm not here to make friends with girls, I'm here to land a boy-fishie. So I guess I can live with your annoyance.

When I was married my husband and I owned rental properties and I did all the minor repairs such as putting in closet organizers, cutting trim, changing outlets, painting, hanging doors, etc. I had my own tool box full of tools and I bought my own power tools because his were too heavy for me, but there are some things I just can't do very easily by myself because I don't have the upper body strength for it. Those are the times I wish I had a man to help me. There are also some things I'm simply not interested in doing myself. My husband could do almost anything, but when he didn't know how or didn't want to do something, he always had lots of friends to help out. If I can't do something now, I have to pay a professional and that's much more expensive than having a husband and his friends.

Your not the only one. I'd take a second job to pay a mechanic rather than repair a car myself. It takes me 4 hours to change the oil, something I can get done for less than one hours worth of wages.

I am blessed with the world greatest boyfriend. He not only cooks like a chef, but he can do anything around the house and does. If I have a problem at my house, he just takes it upon himself to fix it. I don't even need to ask him. I had squirrels in my attic... he brought safe traps, caught them and released them into the wild. I had a leak under my kitchen sink that my son had promised to fix for months. My b/f found out about it and went out to his truck, grabbed his tools and presto, it's fixed. The front door didn't latch... again, instantly fixed. Plus, when I'm sick with a cold he makes me homemade chicken noodle soup. This man is definitely a keeper!!

At last, wait long enough and truth will out: Men want women for sex; women want men for their plumbing acumen. I guess that depends on what a woman mean when she says "her pipes need fixed." [sic]

Do you women miss having someone when something like this comes up?

Heck yeah, and I make no bones about it! Every time I was single, I despised having to either do it myself, or run around asking for help...and I always started by calling my Dad! Shoot, if someone else can do it easily/better/quicker...they're the one for the job! I got nothing to prove, lol.

OP...just want you to know I admire you nine different ways to Sunday--wow! But I gotta tell you, as a jeep owner, your post freaked me a bit! lol

I wonder how many complaining about the cost of services claimed their ex was totally worthless?

And who's going to be the first to put a price on what the sex should have cost?

How about a prenup that will require IOUs for all those things we do for each other and video cameras everywhere to archive every detail. So when there's a split, there will be a balanced master ledger.

The archives must be backed up in 3 locations, one in the residence and one for each party to maintain in separate locations.

That ought to solve it.....eh?

Uhhh,waita minit-

Ya mean, the "helpless guy" routine actually works?? I should pretend some repair/redecorate/remodel problems are beyond my ability?

I should pretend (gasp) that I can't cook my own food??

See, this could lead to "can't pick out my own clothes," or even "can't sew on a button..."

Throwing my bachelorette card into the ring.
I'm an excellent cook but can't hang a curtain rod. I don't do household repairs, don't like them and have very few skills. I've spent years using my brain and my creativity rather than learning to use power tools. I hire professionals in their fields of expertise.
Today, I have a guy comng over to dig a couple of holes in my backyard to plant trees. Like another poster, I don't have the upper body strength to dig through hard clay. But, I can help plant, add the triple mix and water them. I'm proficient with a garden hose and the guy is single. Maybe hiring guys to do odd-jobs is a great way to meet them.
OP you might consider having the jeep door installed professionally and hang-out at the garage all day, while it's being done. You never know who you might meet!
