| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 5/23/2008 6:28:25 PM | "Well, Ovechkin is better than Crosby, period. If Ovechkin was on the Pens, he probably would've scored about 1000 goals. Literally. " 1000 or 100? Ovie and Crosby play different styles but they would be excellent together. I never saw the allstar game last year I saw it this year. I will have to check when I get back if Crosby ever won the memorial cup or if I can remember I know we played in it 2 years in a row but we just didn't fare that well. Memorial cup to me was bigger than the stanley cup as you only get a few cracks at it as a junior. If you reach the NHL you have 20 years of going for it. You have to win the WHL championship just to get in then battle the other teams that won their respective championsips, play round robin then playoffs.
Crosby is a scorer and playmaker Alex is more of just a plain sniper like Selanne. but things are changing Ovie has semin and others to pass to now. Haven't seen many caps games so I don't know if Federov plays on the same line or line 2. I've seen hilights of Ovechkin and maybe 5-6 games since he's been in the nhl.
Better keep my trap shut before the playoffs start and let crosby and malkin do their work before I jinx them.

| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 5/30/2008 3:31:34 PM | Yeah, I feel ashamed that my first thought was " great now we have fewer assets to move and get better".
Definately thinking of Luc's family and friends in this instance, just a tragic accident that is one of the cruel twists life throws at people sometimes. I just send my best wishes to everyone that was close to him.
Times like this put into perspective just how small something like the Stanley Cup Playoffs or any sport is in the grand scheme of things.
RIP Luc Bourdon | |

| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 5/30/2008 4:22:51 PM | Though I don't think his number should be retired, it's still a bit of a shock.
This isn't the first time in Canucks history that this has happened. In the 70's, Wayne Maki died of brain cancer (though this wasn't death by accident, he was still an active player at the time of his death). He wore #11.
Now, although they didn't actually retire his jersey, it was sort of an unspoken rule that any future player wouldn't wear #11 in a Canucks jersey. That is, until Messier came along. That just adds to the whole "darkest years of Canucks history" bit (where I refer to the seasons Messier and Keenan ran the show).
Back to the death though... I wouldn't wish this on any team, even if I hated the team. This reminds me of when Dan Snyder died in that car accident with Danny Heatley. That rocked the league pretty hard.

| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 6/11/2008 8:54:04 PM | Trevor freakin Linden retires a day after a 20 year career. its a sad day in canuckle land. its ok trev, your making me feel old too!
although it was expected. i still find it shocking. its too bad both tarnishes on his career was a result of mark messier....boooo chip eatin yuppie

| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 6/24/2008 8:22:11 PM | | What can you expect after Trev was a healthy scratch for 22 games last season? He saw the writing on the wall, but I don't think the Canucks brass learned a thing from when he left the organization the last time. The Canucks went into a nosedive, as did their attendance and fan base. Sure, we still cheered for the 'nucks but it just wasn't the same. Am I saying a player should stay around for the sake of staying? Not a chance! I'm saying that Trev should have been given the opportunity to go out on his terms, playing hard, working hard and with the respect from the organization that he deserved. He was the true leader and captain of the team. Had he been given the opportunity to play that role on and off the ice, the team would have been better for it. | |

| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 7/2/2008 10:37:43 PM | I think we should bring Joe Sakic into Vancouver for at least a year before he retires. That would be amazing to see.
And screw Sundin, bring back Bertuzzi, resign Nazzy and reunite the WCE!!!
|
| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 7/6/2008 10:30:15 AM | | WCE is Done. Bertuzzi and morrison could goto new york but i dont see it happening. goodbye nazzy you are no longer an unmotivated distraction to the team. i love sakic but hes old now, sundin, ive hated him for so many years it would be odd seeing him in a nucks jersey. | |

| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 7/6/2008 11:19:51 AM | That would be like the Crimson Twins from Cobra.. take one out the other feels it..
hrmm.... yes yes.. i like it.. I like it!!
Sundin for 20 million for 2 years.. jeebus.. i dunno.. Vancouver must really believe replacing nass would be a good thing and the cause of the problem.
|
| |
| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 8/1/2008 12:26:16 PM | I don't think Sundin will come...he wants a Cup, not more money, my guess is he will go to a serious contender like Montreal.
That being said, Gillis has backup plans. I'm excited for our new acquires. Naslund and Morrison weren't helping us one bit, who cares...time to move on. I'm excited to see Calgary's own Mason Raymond score some more big goals!!!
We still have one of the top defence corps and goalie in the league when they're all healthy...and Demitra and Bernier, and the new bigger guys can only make our team better! 2 MORE MONTHS, can't wait for the season to start!
|
| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 8/24/2008 8:49:58 AM | yea im pretty excited too. i cant wait to watch hordichuck drop some fools. the guy has been training with chuck liddel all summer. they say his punching power increased 50%
bought time we have a certified goon.

| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 8/24/2008 10:47:47 AM | Why do you always have to be so negative, P.P.?
One more month! I am sad though, that it's gonna be next to impossible to get tickets for the Flames' home opener against the Nucks.
|
| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 8/24/2008 11:40:10 AM | | Miniwheats, you should know by now my stance on goons in hockey. That's not negative. But I do find it sad that the acquisition of Darcy Hortichuk is getting fans in Vancouver excited. But as long as signing players with no other value than to drop the gloves gets fans excited, they will continue to have a role in the game. | |
|
| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 8/24/2008 2:07:35 PM | I was just kidding lol...nah, me, I don't want the Nucks getting tougher and dirtier...I'll leave that to the Flames and their goons, that seems to be their new direction this year...playing EVEN more dirtier and being even more of the sore losers that they are!
Gillis...screw Sundin, get us Gaborik!

Yes, because as the Detroit Red Wings proved, it's an essential piece to winning a Stanley Cup
Darren McCarty (born April 1, 1972 in Burnaby, British Columbia) is a professional ice hockey player for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. McCarty has been known more for his fists than his scoring ability, taking on the role of the Red Wings enforcer most of his career, a role in which he won four Stanley Cups in 1997, 1998, 2002, and 2008
Pwned - goons are necessary in hockey. Dirty cheap shot artists r not

| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 9/1/2008 12:23:39 PM | Darren McCarty was an essential piece to the Detroit Red Wings' Stanley Cups? OK. You got me there. He was AWESOME last playoff season. Remind me agasin ... how many times did he drop the gloves in the playoffs? None. Bottom line is Darren McCarty can also play shut-down, defensive hockey. Hordichuk can't even skate backwards. Comparing McCarty to Hordichuk is like comparing Roberto Luongo to Manny Legace. | |

| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 9/20/2008 6:12:18 PM | enforcers are necessary. Big hits will happen Fights will happen Goons will happen. but its such a high paced game the adrenaline kicks in and then its instinct. if you want hockey to be soccer we could make this huge playing surface and guys can go on breakaways all the time with huge end to end passes and hitting will be non existant. but that isnt hockey anymore its soccer on ice skates. when they invented the game in the 1800's the jocks of the time probably loved the fact they could fly 40 km /h and nail each other within the rules. but if somebody takes liberty on someone else the biggest guy would fight that guy. governing the game.
history has proven people cheat to win. they do whatever it takes to win. cheapshots happen enforces take care of that. you take enforcers out of the game. well it just wouldent happen

| Official Vancouver Canucks Fan thread in Alberta Posted: 9/20/2008 7:56:03 PM | "but its such a high paced game the adrenaline kicks in and then its instinct." I have no problem with that. But that has nothing to do with a goon's role. If goons are necessary in hockey, I'm guessing you don't plan on watching the Olympics ... or the world championships ... or the Stanley Cup finals, for that matter. Bottom line is, when the games really matter, the goons are wearing suits and ties, sitting in the press box. Take a look at last year's finals. Laraque played Game 1, then sat. Even your "essential" Darren McCarty sat four of the six games in the finals. If goons were necessary, you'd think they'd be on the ice when it counted most. | |
