| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/12/2008 11:51:53 PM | Clearly you guys don't follow comics because Nick Fury in the Ultimate Marvel universe looks EXACTLY like Samuel L. Jackson. And since they do A LOT of Ultimate Marvel based stuff for the movies (Eddie Brock Jr., Cloud Galactus) it's no surprise.
Besides Sam can be whatever he wants.

| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/13/2008 11:07:58 AM | Wow I just googled "Nick Fury Ultimate Marvel" and man you are right. It looks like they used Sam as the model!!!!
Check for yourself...

P.S. it takes FOREVER to see the extra scene. After the animated credits, there are the normal credits. Here it is....

Wow I just googled "Nick Fury Ultimate Marvel" and man you are right. It looks like they used Sam as the model!!!! That picture was in face modeled after Sam and with his explicit permission in an attempt to resculpt his image. I mean, what would happen if people who have not heard of Nick Fury decided to Google the name when the movie came out and all they found were pictures of white men?
If you really think about it, Nick fury was supposed to be born in the late 1910's and therefore probably would not have had nearly as many opportunities of advancement if he were an African-American. Because he lived in such a racist period, his race is very important. Besides, the "Nick Fury Ultimate Marvel" profile said that he lost his eye in the Gulf War. Bologna! The real nick fury never lost his eye, but 95% of it's vision. And it was in WWII, not the gulf war. Nick fury takes a serum to keep him from aging.
I did enjoy seeing Nick Fury and Tony Stark meet at the end of the Iron Man movie though. I just wish they hadn't sacrificed the integrity of the comic.

| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/15/2008 5:20:33 PM | | Lol my son took me for Mother's Day! I had not read anything about it and didn't know who was in it. I was really suprised how awesome it was. It was full of excitement and special effects! I thought we were going to speed racer. I'm so glad we saw this one instead. Anyone see speed racer? Was it good? | |

| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/15/2008 9:57:52 PM | LOL~!
A man creates an iron suit beyond anything in our current technology.
That's cool.
But a black man being THE spy... that's CRAZY~!
|
| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/16/2008 10:28:02 AM | | Love Robert D. Jr. But I didn't care for the movie. I actually wished for a refund. | |

| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/16/2008 3:48:13 PM | But a black man being THE spy... that's CRAZY~! The fact is, Nick Fury's character was a WWII hero and spy. Now how could an African American have passed as a spy in 1940's Nazi Germany?
They tried this once before with Will Smith playing James West in "Wild Wild West" and again, it didn't do the movie justice at all.

| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/16/2008 3:54:28 PM | I went with a few of my grown kids and we all thought it was terrific!
(even with Gwenyth Paltrow in it..ugh)

| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/17/2008 12:02:41 AM | honestly, I would not say that the Iron Man suit is beyond current tech.
The original Nick Fury was definitely a white dude... I've read a number of comics and my brother was a big collector in his day, having well over a 14,000 dollar collection.
|
| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/17/2008 10:36:32 PM | Kingpin was also white, but he wasn't in Daredevil. These movies are based on the comics, not a direct translation. The Ultimate Universe is a modern take on all the heroes, which they base a lot of their stories on. I wouldn't be surprised if they used Ultimate Thor. Better idea anyway because the movie is gonna be goofy otherwise...
Unless you read comic books or are familar with Fury's history... no one is gonna be thinking "hmmm how can Fury be black if...". It's a MOVIE.
|
| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/17/2008 11:27:17 PM | | I personally don't care, I was just making an observation and correction. I'm sure II will be fine, if it's anything like the first one. I actually thought Iron Man was a good movie... it was better than Spiderman, at least for me... | |

Unless you read comic books or are familar with Fury's history... no one is gonna be thinking "hmmm how can Fury be black if...". It's a MOVIE. But don't you think that the film producers should take into consideration the fact that many people who will be watching these movies will be people who are familiar with the comics?
I'm glad someone brought up Thor. Because while it's not a big deal to change the race of some characters such as King Pin, I do think that characters such as Thor and Nick Fury must have a level of historic accuracy. I mean, if they were to introduce Thor as a buff Asian guy, wouldn't we all be like WTF?
|
| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/20/2008 8:31:30 AM | As previously mentioned they seem to be getting a lot of material from the Ultimate universe, which changes much of the heros backgrounds. So while upsetting the purists, they are in fact using comic book material, and not really reinventing too much that hasn't been changed before.

Check out the Ultimate Avenger movies (they where cartoons), and you will see a black Nick Fury in it.

| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/24/2008 11:00:41 PM | I saw it on Saturday and loved it. Never read the comics as a kid but really liked the movie and the special effects were great. | |

| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/25/2008 9:16:12 PM | We saw it today while waiting for the new Indiana Jones movie to cool a bit in the theatres.
It was simply excellent - there was one series of effects that seemed a little poorly done, but the rest were very amazing. The storyline had a very good flow throughout the entire movie. I can definitely see a sequel to this one! Robert Downey Jr. was great, almost made me forget his stint on Ally McBeal (almost) ;o) And Jeff Bridges did an AWESOME job as the "friend turned foe" Obadiah Stane.
My son can't wait to buy it so we can see it again. I highly recommend it.
Good job! | |
|
| Iron Man movie Posted: 5/26/2008 5:12:38 AM | If I am not mistaken, they have already stated working on the sequel. Yayyyy!!!
But then I heard that it may end up as a trilogy. yay maybe... I hope they don't overdo it.
As far as the Ultimate Universe Marvel stuff goes. I can understand that their are some differenced, but I do dislike how they try to mix the old with the new. I mean, the movie obviously wasn't based on the modern Ultimate Iron Man. So why would they use the Ultimate Nick Fury? And I am glad someone pointed out Eddie Brock in Spider-Man. I didn't like that either. What happened to the macho, not-so-intelligent Eddie Brock that we all grew up loathing?
