The Opec nations have decide to cut production. Prices will go back up again. When will we change our gas guzzling habits? The time is now to make the changes without having to be told. Drive less. Plan your driving for the week in advance. No wasted trips. No sight seeing. The nation cannot afford to throw away our wealth.

I seldom drive anymore... don't blame me!

The time was 1973, the writing was on the wall then, no one listened then, nor will they now.

As with anything, Americans are into instant gratification, one who complains they are broke, will think of nothing of a $70 month cable bill, $60/ month cell bill ect...

Bottled water, you women abused that by filling the landfills with your plastic bottles as you were too lazy to recycle them, now that privlidge will soon be taken away too!

What about men helping to recycle botles. Perhaps the real issue is the amount of oil used to produce plasic products. Anyone think it is time to go back to glass bottles that can be reused? What other products can be reused that we are not using anymore?

Every bottle I use ends up at recycling, in fact I more that 3/4 of my garbage is recycleable. Only problem is now I have to drop the stuff off due to the fact that Lake County cut the curbside program off, now making this an inconvience to most.

How can we avoid using products that need to be recycled in the first place. I wonder if everyone bought reusable bags to use in the grocery store if this savings would be worth the effort? Perhaps? What other measures can be taken to reduce the amount of oil used to lower the demand for the product?

I also re-use my Save-A-Lot bags....

The rest go into the recycler.... those bags actually reproduce themselves.

I'm can say I'm glad to see gas prices are coming down! It only took $40 to fill my gas guzzler up this week :) I still haven't broke down to a better gas mileage car. I have to get my son a car in February so prices go back up I'll just take his car and leave him sitting hom.

It might still be a bit high but $40 is much easier then the $70 I was spending on each fill up.... I'm sure it won't last but I will enjoy it while its here

I drove around in a little two seater last night... luv the car but man after riding in a big suv for so long it sure was confining. It talked my son out of wanting this car for himself. He said its too small for me mom take it back! So I did.

Gas is 2.15 ten miles south of Cleveland. In Cleveland as low as 2.25 a gallon. Not bad. Save the money for a rainy day. Just in case. If production of 7oil drops the price could begin to go back up. Also if the dollar gains strength the price of oil could go up.

Put some in @ 2.03 the other day, yesterday it dropped ro 1.95, yet I'd have to wait 7-8 cars deep, I just put a few gallons in at a time, not worth the hassle to save about a buck..... People are nuts waiting like that, yet they think nothing of their $70 cable bill, $40/mo cell bill, ect.

It was great to once again fill up my tank for just over $30 as opposed to $70. Prices fell so fast, it makes you wonder how fast they can rise again.

I think " Climbs" hit the nail on the head when he mentioned ways to reduce oil usage and recycling. Why is it that we have only just recently been seeing more electric cars and hybrids? I know that car manufacturers have had these concept cars for years. But it is rare to see the general public driving these because they are so expensive and not widely available. I think its time to really give these renewable resources some SERIOUS thought and priority. Its only a matter of time before oil prices rise again and production slows and we would be foolish to think otherwise.

Now don't count on this to last, we need to get off oil, & the times is way past NOW! This should have been looked into in 1973.

I'm unsure if posting a link here violates the rules, but check into David Blumes site Alcohol can be a gas (one word).

Also a suggested documentary, Who Killed the Electric Car, looks into how the Goverment & the Oil companies killed off GM's EV1 (or the Impact) project. This car ran 80 miles on a charge, cost to charge was the equivilant of 60 cents a gallon, & the car ran 80 miles on a charge & could be charged at home in less than 8 hours. Yes this technology existed, yet our goverment played a role in having this technology destroyed.

I can't imagine the problems they will have when the Chevy Volt comes to market, & this is not a full electric car, & still requires a small recharging engine.

Watch the movie again. The auto industry played a role in the demise of the electric car as well. Only a small number of the Volt will see the road anytime soon as this car is experimental much as the EV1 was . The question is whether or not GM will survive long enough to see the electric car survive? As for GM , I wonder why the government bailout, if it should happen, will buy enough time to make up for the lack of leadership during the last 10 years in Detroit?

Climbs, I didn't think you bought in to these conspiricy theories.

<div class="quote"> The auto industry played a role in the demise of the electric car as well.

True, but who really gave the automakers (or GM) the incentive to kill it off?

To my understanding the Volt will be available across the country, not like the EV1 that was only offered in 3 states. Everything radical great idea GM does is an experiment, the early Saturn line, The Fiero, The U body, Plastic fenders & body panels (that were used on more than just the Saturn Line), HUD (Displays), ect.

GM shot themselves in the foot by destroying the EV1. As gas prices are lower again, perhaps they will shelve the Volt, & go back to making overpriced & overequipped Tahoes & Hummers.

Off to the next cycle, & those who are mismanaging things are getting filthy rich.
