Can they find out where you live by ringing the isp you use? no the company wont release personal info about someone. Are you overly paranoid? yes, but not about the people staring at you, report them to the police, and snap out of the crappy fear of the internet and anonymity-you cant be anonymous and secure on the web unless you spend lots on expensive programs, which ironically are only brought by paranoid people.

Message me and I'll give you your name, address, email and phone number. It's right there and is public information.
I tried to message you, but your message restrictions prevented me......can you change them because I really want to see if you can do it :)

Do you have a website? She did, and claimed it was privacy protected, but it was easy to pull the information, though it's supposedly outdated.
I didn't say I could pull that info on a home IP, but on a domain name.
If you still want me to do it, post here and I'll message you, not sure why you are blocked.

This paid service allows her to see the original registration information for the domain name. Since my domain name was registered in 1999 (if I remember correctly) that is pretty old data and an unreliable source of information. That was also back before privacy services existed for blocking your personal information from the rest of the world. I checked a history tracker and it couldn't take the data back past 2002 though, but even that data is over 6 years old.

| Can one be traced to their ISP (computer), Posted: 6/2/2008 1:33:15 PM | Okay, now its getting weirder. I hadn't been on MSN for a long while. The pop up indicates he just signed in. He asked how I was, (seemingly to not quite remember by nick name). In a few words he said he was in the US.
I got home yesterday and on checking my voicemail, there is a hang up from a U.S.phone exchange, seems to be 410, Annapolis.
Trying to reflect on the conversation I 65% think he said Annapolis. Call came from a marketing firm that, if you ey in your phone number, apparently it takes one off a 'calling list for people trying to sell you something.
Now, I would like someone from POF to respond here. Someone please reply on my hotmail number, and if anyone has an email address for customer service here, please let me know.
Too many co incidences here !

| Can one be traced to their ISP (computer), Posted: 6/3/2008 12:44:41 PM | I get such a kick out of this stuff.. First of all, the question makes no sense. An ISP is not someone's individual computer. So what's the real question? Can one be traced to their ISP? or Can one be traced to their computer? I assume based on it being from a woman paranoid about an ex that it's the latter of the two.. regardless, the first is easy and the second depends.. at least how easily anyway.. such as.. is the pc's IP address static or dynamic? Going through a router? And as for the 'whois' search, although generally used for domains, it can be searched by IP address. And sure, the information's public. As long as the domain is registered as public! And even then the person may have listed fictitious information. If I have my domain registered as private then you don't get squat. And if I have it registered as 'business' then you get some limited information, which is only the information that the person who registered it as 'business' felt like listing. I could go on.... and remember, the resources available to the average joe are not the same as someone 'in the know'. Those people will have you pegged.. right down to your front door and which pc was used.. Guaranteed... regardless of ISP, routers, etc..

| Can one be traced to their ISP (computer), Posted: 6/4/2008 7:24:00 AM | lauren8, it can be very terrifying to feel your privacy may have been invaded, for you do not know what they may do. As some posters have mentioned he may have located you through the work computer, or possibly with an email attachment. I had a computer crash last year just min after opening one from a stranger. Or he could have found you like this. him- so you said you live in a small town outside the city, so how long does it take you to get home from work? I'll email you. you- oh about 30 min... All he has to do is combine the grocery store info , where you work [told to him in the last email], and the two small towns you live in within 30 miles of the city on your profile. A day trip at most and he could find you. A couple of times I've thought to myself I had said too much from chatting, and a couple of times I showed up for a meet and the person looked nothing like their picture, leaving me wondering who else may be lurking around. Yes you have to be careful! Meeting others from the internet is no more safe than meeting strangers out in public. Anyone can follow you home.
The police are not going to investigate this man who looks alot like the picture without court level evidence he is repeatedly stalking you. This man could be a lookalike who lives close and inocent. If you really feel someone is doing this you need to get smart, fast. Get a camera. Have these phone calls documented. Don't talk to others much about anything other than evidence. You do not want others to think you are unballanced if you are not. Be alert and stay safe. All the best C

| Can one be traced to their ISP (computer), Posted: 6/4/2008 4:30:52 PM | Still waiting for her hypothesis on how someone traced her to the grocery store through her ISP/computer.
Now, I'd like her hypothesis on how this guy left a hangup voicemail through a number that is apparently owned by some marketing firm.
