Can you cut back on calories and still add muscle mass?

There is a lot of good tips here. But the bottom line is everyBODY is different. You need to experiment on what works for you. Some people can very well lose fat while gaining muscle. Other can not. Just like some people can eat like a horse and not gain a pound while others have a hard time to lose weight. It all comes down to knowing your body. Following a diet plan or workout routine you found on the net is nowhere near as effective as designing a program that works for YOU. I see people in the gym everyday - some serious bodybuilders - and the most serious guys all have their own ways of doing things. Some swear by eating lots of protein - while other recommend moderate amounts. Some have high carb diets while other don't. Some lift heavy weight for low reps while others prefer high reps with lighter weight. I know guys who drink WHOLE milk every day and they have great abs! Others are totally against it. I know this one guy who workouts just 2x per week and he's by far the strongest SOB I've ever seen and ripped.

Can you cut back on calories and still add muscle mass?

Yes.

You have to ensure your protein needs are being met (1 gram per pound of bodyweight is more than enough) and it always helps to take BCAA's (10g/day or more), creatine (5g/day) and ZMA.

You can find those three supplements in bulk and for cheap at www.superiornutraceuticals.com.

(Not affiliated with them in any way, they just have the best prices by far.)

I dropped 13 pounds in 28 days on the "Velocity Diet" (www.t-nation.com) while increasing my performance in all aspects of my training. I only gained back 2 pounds after returning to normal eating.

As for the people wondering where the extra calories come from for building muscle while dieting, look at the spare tire around your waist. That should give you a clue. ;^D

Okay heres a few tips, coming from someone who 's worked with 100's of clients in the gym...
1st of all, why would you comlpetely cut out apples, they are a great source of fiber and more of a complex carb that will stay in your system alittle longer, but you will still burn it off...it depends when your eating it and how much of it you are eating....
2nd, yes cauliflower and broccoli are great, very water soluable, and will burn off pretty darn fast, the almonds are great for many different reasons, and are agreat snck source of protein, etc...
..peanut butter is great...go for the organic peanut butter that doesn't have as many preservatives and is as not processed as much as your standard Skippy or Jiff(its garbage, but yummy, I know)Sometimes for breakfast you could have plain oatmeal (the kind you cook on the stove, not Instant)and mix in 2 tbls of peanut butter, then your getting protein, fiber, and its healthy...
turkey strips and walnuts..great..if its not processed trurky slices from the deli, and turket you cooked or made
YOU NEED TO PLAN YOUR MEALS FOR YOUR WORKOUTS AND LOOK AT THE WHOLE PICTURE, NOT JUST READ ONE THING IN A MAGAZINE AND THINK THAT THATS GREAT FOR ME/YOU....ANALYZE YOUR BODY OR HAVE SOMEONE DO IT FOR YOU...GET YOUR BODY FAT MEASURED AND FIGURE OUT HOW YOU LOSE AND GAIN..EVERY BODY IS DIFFERENT AND WE ALL RESPOND DIFFERENTLY TO EXERCISE AND NUTRITION.
