Well, if you just drank one beer a day I'd say your not an alcoholic... If your drinking two and up a day then yes you have a problem. You won't see this but others do, and you don't even have to drink alcohol. Near-beer has been proven to induce the same effects and there's little to no alcohol in it. That goes to prove that it's a mentality thing and your whole attitude changes when that glass bottle touches your lips.

I can see drinking every day as being abuse but I would hardly see somebody who drinks two beers a day as an alcoholic. I know people who drink about two beers a day after work and they are perfectly fine. I have a friend who drinks like that but he will only touch certain things.

One example would be Guinness. Drinking a couple Guinness a day is very healthy for you. Guinness here in the states is very low on alcohol content and has antioxidents in it which is very good for your arteries and heart.

Another example is unpasturized microbrew. Brewers yeast is very high in Vitimin B. Since microbrew from a local brewery or homebrewed beer is unfiltered, it still contains all these vitimins.

I dont see two beers a day as being bad. Any more than that, then you may have a problem.

Shall we recap:

1. you are only 19 and have been drinking for 7 yrs
2. you are asking others if they think you have a problem
3. you justify your drinking by saying "you are having fun" news flash......fun isn't a daily event
4. some are telling you or giving you different measures of how to tell if you have a problem........like how often, how much, what you are drinking
5. you have a genetic predisposition to alcoholism (look at your brother) like other illnesses, addiction is genetic
6. there is NO level of alcoholism......like functional or not........addiction is mental, social, physiological and even if you play "the game" of how much and when, if your mind or thoughts are consumed with "when and what" then YOU ARE
7. if you do something 1 or 2 times....its trying /experimenting
3 or more using it
lots.......addiction
It is sad to know that you don't think that you can be in the same situation as your brother........I bet he thought the same thing.......as do all addicts. Please get some help so you can have a BETTER life. I so thank you for protecting our freedom but want you to learn how to be free from the life that will be ahead...............

Here is a test that AA uses... count your 'yes' answers.

1. Do you lose time from work due to drinking?
2. Is drinking making your home life unhappy?
3. Do you drink because you are shy with other people?
4. Is drinking affecting your reputation?
5. Have you ever felt remorse after drinking?
6. Have you got into financial difficulties as a result of drinking?
7. Do you turn to lower companions and an inferior environment when drinking?
8. Does your drinking make you careless of your family's welfare?
9. Has your ambition decreased since drinking?
10. Do you crave a drink at a definite time daily?
11. Do you want a drink the next morning?
12. Does drinking cause you to have difficulty sleeping?
13. Has your efficiency decreased since drinking?
14. Is drinking jeopardizing your job or business?
15. Do you drink to escape from worries or trouble?
16. Do you drink alone?
17. Have you ever had a complete loss of memory as a result of drinking?
18. Has your physician ever treated you for drinking?
19. Do you drink to build up your self-confidence?
20. Have you ever been to a hospital or institution on account of drinking?

If you have answered YES to any of the questions, there is a definite
warning that you may be alcoholic.

If you have answered YES to any 2, the chances are that you are an
alcoholic.

If you have answered YES to 3 or more, you are definitely an alcoholic.
