| Grouse grind Posted: 6/3/2005 5:56:32 PM | yea the best ever time posted on the grind is 27:18 and that was done in 1997. You pretty much have to be nuts to get that time, but if you take care of yourself and are prepared then you should be able to finish in 1 h 15 mins no problem. Last year i went twice and did it in 57, and 52 min. And the whole 2.9 km up your are as exhuasted as you can be, but once u hit the peak you wanna do it again. lol
Anyways good luck to everyone might see ya on the grind

| Grouse grind Posted: 6/3/2005 8:31:35 PM | If the guy was found, why do I have to go out again tomorrow and search for him? You must be thinking of someone else. Join SAR, you get to go up and down the Grouse Grind all day for free. | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/3/2005 8:40:24 PM | PS The search is continuing until Sunday, after that it's being called off! | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/3/2005 8:47:46 PM | | Does it not seem suspicious to you that this guy would come into town and head straight up to Grouse before even checking in at his hotel!!! weird! | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/3/2005 9:10:59 PM | | Yes, we're all speculating on that and hope he just wanted to do a disappearing act. There is some backdoor stuff that's being done to see if there's another story here but in the meantime, the search continues. As for getting lost on Grouse, eventually you'll come out but this guy was up there at night and did not know the trails, lots. If you're in the dark, it would be extremely easy to stray and fall over one of the many, many cliffs. It's hard not to in the day, through thick bush. So, he could have been injured and still tried to walk out and that's where the problem is. | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/3/2005 9:23:25 PM | Yes fog and anything in the enviroment is a factor, that goes for your state of mind as well. The number one killer of people who get lost is panic. Not thinking clearly creates a bigger dilema, because that's when people make mistakes. | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/3/2005 9:55:00 PM | I suppose different people react differently to trouble. But you were lucky, very lucky. If the elements had been a bit different, if those hikers weren't there, if you had gone in the wrong direction, etc, the outcome could have been different and there have been many cases. That's why we hear "if only" so many times. But I'm glad you came out ok, just be careful. | |

| Grouse grind Posted: 6/4/2005 12:04:55 PM | | What I said about being difficult to get lost on the Grind, I meant about the Grind specifically, not the rest of Grouse. It is a very well marked and worn trail, and almost impossible to accidently wander off of. But if the guy went on some of the other trails, then it is very possible to get lost, especially if you don't know the area. | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/4/2005 1:36:08 PM | | What I find puzzling is why someone who just came in from out of town, would venture straight to Grouse before even checking in at his hotel first???? And who these days goes anywhere without a cell phone? hmmmm things to ponder! | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/4/2005 4:16:46 PM | | okies... so i was right about being able to do it in under 30 mins... which is hella good... and wrong about the guy being found... must have been someone else that was lost then found... | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/6/2005 9:07:21 PM | | okies... me and my buddy are gonna be hitting the grouse grind this thursday... weather permitting... and i heard on the news that they called off the search for the missing guy and that he was not found... my buddies grandma lied to me... | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/7/2005 12:36:01 AM | | What kind of time do you think you're going to be pulling? < 1 hour or more? | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/7/2005 6:25:10 PM | | my goal is 1.25 hrs... but most likely near the 1.5 hrs mark... i'm in good shape... just not good cardio shape... more weight lifting that anything else... so i doubt i'll be quick... | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/7/2005 6:30:31 PM | | I heard on the new today that they found "missing guy"..not on the grind, but somewhere else on the mountain, he did not fair too well...my condolancesto his family. | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/7/2005 10:28:23 PM | Yes, we should all send our condolances to his family. David was found just east of the Grind trail. (he must have gotten confused on the actual trail) Where he fell, there was an angle of about 80 degrees, downslope. Because it was dark and having sandals on, it made it treacherous as we are now learning. I'm sure the details will be in the papers and on tv so I don't need to elaborate. But I pray people are learning from this and how easy it is to lose your way. If anything, the family has closure which is a bit comforting as there are still open cases on Grouse where people have never been found. Be careful up there guys and gals! As long as you use your common sense, you should be fine! | |

I've been up every day this week, got soaked yesterday, but it is worth it. Not sure how many here know this but you can buy an annual summit seeker pass ($20) which enables you to time in and out, log your results online, and most importantly allow you to bring a bag with a change of clothes, towel, snack, etc., that they send up on the gondola. There is nothing better then getting to the top all hot and sweaty and being able to change into clean clothes for the ride down.
There's a group of us (usually 2 or 3 make it each time) that go up most weekdays, leaving North Burnaby at about 10:00. With gas being so high it would be nice to find a few more people that want to join in and share driving or chip in with gas money. I have a mini-van and don't mind driving, just a few bucks towards gas would be sufficient.
We start at the gate together and then meet again at the chalet, on top, as we all go at our own pace. Contact me if interested.

I'm off for Grind number 9, of the season, in a few hours. My friends are not as motivated or as available as me so I'm generally driving it alone from North Burnaby. If anyone is in the area and wants to share driving or chip in a few dollars for gas, let me know as I go 3 or 4 weekdays a week.
Please contact whph4u if you are interested in doing the Grind mid-week during the day.

| Grouse grind Posted: 6/25/2008 11:17:21 PM | | Is the grouse grind free to climb? I heard something about it costing money if you want to climb it ot something... | |
| Grouse grind Posted: 6/26/2008 1:51:57 AM | ManBurning, if you climb it, it is a $5 tram ride down. If you climb both ways it costs you nothing.
It is $34.95 plus applicable taxes for a return trip tram ride. However, if you have a yearly membership you are able to get 1/2 price off General Admission rates for up to 4 guests each visit.
Something to think about!!!!!
