| Are men attracted to fashionable women?

I have over 100 skirts and over 20 purses and close to 50 pairs of shoes (half I can't walk in but they are so cute) so how does that make a woman shallow?
Question
Why would any man want to go out with a woman in sweats? Women should be well dressed all times and personally I am only attracted to men who wear ties and nice shirts and nice shoes. I loath a man in those ugly cargo shorts they wear here in the south. So what if it is hot, put on a nice shirt, dresspants and a tie.

Meaning...if you're a tubo...don't wear spandex just because you saw that slim woman wearing it and she looked great.

Posted: 5/16/2008 3:31:46 AM | To me there is nothing more unappealing than someone who goes over the top with regard to makeup, fashion etc (the typical model look). I see it every day, the kind of woman who stops on the tube platform to check her makeup. Jesus, this is just excessive and totally unattractive.
As for short hair, this is the biggest no no. I have honestly never seen a woman with short hair that I found appealing, its just something that shouldn't be done. It doesn't suit the female appearance. | |

I'm not checking myself out in every mirror I pass nor do I need or want a man to pay for my clothes. But you will not catch me wearing sweat pants. Since I am althletic and enjoy formal occassions, I dress to suit the date. Does this make me high maintenance????????? I think not. I hope not.......High maintenance to me means someone who must be the center of everything and everyone they are with. | |

So basically what you are saying is that if a guy shows up dressed to the nines with a fat roll of cash, that is all it takes to win your admiration?
Being as how your definition of a man is that he dresses well and makes a lot of money then can my definition of a woman be that she cooks, cleans, doesn't speak out of place and gives a wicked BJ, or will that make me seem backwards? | |

On the other hand, I see women who aren’t very pretty by conventional standards but who look like they shop at Saks, Nordstrom, Barneys and other places like that. If the woman takes good care of herself and spends all that time and money putting together a really tasteful or classic kind of look, it’s hard not to admire the sight of her. The mind begins to wander to “I wonder what her voice sounds like. I’ll bet she smells good. …I wonder what she’s got on under that.” Etc.
It’s interesting what is communicated by the way people dress. Women who dress to fit in or who rely overly on showing skin, come off as insecure. Men can sense this the way a dog can smell fear. If a man is not feeling the vibe, he might think to himself “poor girl” or simply, “What a bimbo”. But, if a man is on the prowl, he will think to himself “Mmmm … based on that tube top, I think this chick is very likely to make other bad decisions tonight which could spell f-u-n for me.” One feels bad for those girls. | |

He said that girls and guys have different opinions on what is attractive. He said that while us girls thought her pixie crop and extreme eye makeup made her look vogue and exciting to guys it's just not natural or approachable enough.
I wouldn't say the problem is ``vogue and exciting.'' The only guy I've ever known who liked women to wear lots of make up liked it because he thought it made them look like cheap streetwalkers and he got off to that. Even worse is someone who looks like a department store manniquin. Consider the possibility that women think it looks more stylish than men do.
I countered with the old 'yes but it's whats on the inside that matters and anyway she looks fabulous'
In that case, why doesn't she just save the time it takes to put on the make up? | |

Posted: 5/17/2008 3:50:11 AM | I am not the most fashion-forward person, nor do I wear extreme eye makeup. I tend to consider myself to be relatively attractive but certainly not stunning. That said, I have had guys tell me (after we have started talking) that they were uncertain about approaching me. When I have asked why they have told me that they were sure that someone as slim and friendly as I am was probably in a relationship and therefore not someone they had a chance with.
Sometimes being attractive is a little intimidating. Couple that with extreme eye makeup and an extreme hairstyle and you've made it almost a sure thing that guys will not approach you. I don't claim to know the male mind, but I think most guys don't like a girl who wears a lot of eye makeup (or a lot of makeup in general) especially in the more extreme styles. Those 'looks' are best left on the pages of magazines.
In reading through this thread I have noticed that most men equate women who dress to the 9's and wear a lot of makeup with women who are high-maintenance. That is NOT an attractive quality to most men. Perhaps your friend could tone down the makeup and that would help. Even better she should ask guy friends their opinions on what she's wearing and take their advice. After all, she's not out to impress girls with her looks and guys know what other guys like more than women do. | |

Posted: 5/17/2008 4:03:30 AM | Well, I had a few years of financial hardship, where I would buy clothes from the value range of a clothing supermarket.
Once I attended an evening event, wearing a combination of those kind of clothes, and matching make up, and the host told me that I "always look so glamorous" 
Bottom line is: whatever you wear, do it gracefully. There are many women who look amazing, fake tan, fashionable clothes, false nails, coordinating accesories and, the moment they open their mouth, everyone feels embarrased.
Glad to see that the majority of men still prefers what's within the woman's heart and personality, that's a big relief... | |

Sure, it's great "going out" with a finely dressed lady, but I spend most of my actual, real life "in," not "out," and if I have a steady gf or a live-in, we'll probably spend more time in "grunge mode" than "dressed to the nines."

Posted: 5/17/2008 6:33:41 AM | All I needed to read was short haircut and and "pixie" to know that another woman had gone off the deep end into the cesspool of fashion. For any woman who doubts this, take a look at Playboy centerfolds or a swimsuit calendar. There will be exceptions, but by and large the much greater percentage of the women featured will have at minimum shoulder length hair or it extends to their shoulder blades or lower. The people putting together these publications know their target audience very well. When short hair was all the rage in the '90s, those publications stayed true to form. Had they followed fashion trends, they would have seen sales drop considerably.
Think about that before you decide to do some radical makeover while thinking the end result will make you "adorable". Odds are, it won't.
Besides the "pixie" cut (which I too had to Google to even know what was being discussed) is the stupid looking cut that is very short in back and then is chin length at the front. That and short hair that is moussed straight up to look as though the owner just finished french kissing a light socket are about as off putting as I've seen. Yet women gravitate to those styles. It boggles the mind. | |

Men ARE attracted to stylish women.....stylish is the art of chosing SUBTLE coture that is suited to your body type & lifestyle.
Much of 'high fashion' is NOT stylish......but rather an ego-trip by the stylisT. It tends to appeal to those who like the shiney bits & to the fabulous lads who get to play w/ sequins & feathers. | |

also, i actually dislike fashion. last time i was in nordstrom i felt like i was gonna get jumped by a dude with a jar of grey pupon at every isle crossing and the helper guys were all gay cause they looked like they all had their fingernails painted and all were perfumed. | |

To me, fashionable means expensive, but maybe that's cause I've dated tons of fashionable women, fashion majors, models... and then I've dated makeupless gorgeous farm girls, and beautiful factory workers. | |
