| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/14/2008 10:58:07 AM | i could, as long as my crockpot, pizza turntable and skillet/grill arent taken away either.....as to the article on hazards, there was no mention on the psycoligical effects on the tests subjects when remoed from all outside risks like alchohol, tobacco and sex there would be significant chnges in blood patterns due to addictions and removal from them.
now there is a confection and convection oven one uses radiant heat the other works like a large toaster (metal can be used in it) the confection is as safe as a stove oven and takes as long

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/14/2008 11:08:52 PM | | I've been microwaveless for about a year now. The only thing I'd ever use it for is to reheat pizza maybe once a week, and that's pretty good cold anyways, so I just haven't bought one. On the other hand, life without a blender could be tough. | |

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/15/2008 2:24:58 AM | I have never owned a microwave and I don't really get the whole microwave thing. Things can be reheated as easily in a saucepan on the hotplates, or in the oven, and I don't like the thought of cooking something from scratch in a microwave. The only thing I have ever identified that a microwave can do particularly well (that can't be as easily or as well done using hotplates or oven) is heating chocolate cake with icing so that the icing turns into hot fudge without drying out the cake. I admit that chocolate cake with melted fudge icing is pretty damn special in the scheme of life , but even that has never inspired me to think I need a microwave. | |

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/15/2008 2:37:29 PM | | I have a microwave oven but I definitely could live without one. I cook almost everyday and I do use my stove and oven a lot. In fact, I prefer using my stove or oven. Of course, the microwave heats stuff up pretty fast when you're in a hurry. | |

I wouldnt survive without my kettle though , gotta have the coffee , and I'd be lost without my tv , even if its just for background noise.....this house is just way too quiet any more.

| could you live without your microwave oven.? Posted: 5/21/2008 9:35:33 AM | The microwave is the most efficient cooking appliance I have. When I bought it I made sure it had the max amount of power for the price range (1200W, under $100).
We're all-electric here. My ancient electric range has only two working burners (I only use one, and only for grilling burgers or pan frying or boiling water for pasta) and the range oven thermostat is off by 100 degrees F. For most baking, since it's just my son and me, I use a countertop convection/toaster oven.
For most other cooking I used a two-tier steamer, a crockpot, a deep fryer, a waffle iron (also makes great grilled cheese sandwiches), or a panini press; in fact I've got just about every countertop cooking appliance one can think of, and I use most of them routinely (once a week, minimum, otherwise I get rid of them).
I have a nice selection of microwave cooking accessories, and I use them just about every day: my microwave pressure cooker, for example, makes a tender, juicy 4 lb roast in 33 minutes. I have to sound like a TV commercial, but it's true.
Sure, I could live without the microwave. I don't have to, so I won't.
