laur girl what she said was right so dont be putting people opinions down its not a nice thing to do, ok what ever muscle group u train its going to need a rest the day after depending on what u train for example if i was doing endurance weight lifiting properly for 45mins, i will be absolutly smashed as anyone would be if they were doing it properly, after 45min testostarone levels decrease. u have isometric training which is also know as static training needs a day rest, this is were ur specific muscle group is overload with a weight and u hold it well try to hold it at a specific angle. we have plyometrics which is concentric and eccentric contractions in one execerise for example death jump (steping of a box the immediatly jumping straight back on) were the concentric part of the exercise produce more force then any other type of concentric work out. endurance training can be done repeadily but its better left to once every other day until ur fittness level incresea which for this gentelman will not be straight away so the advice laur was given can be considered correct. what this gentelman will find through endurance training ur will incresea in size and the amount of blood u will be able to pump will be greater, thus transporting more oxygen transporting cells to ur working muscle allowing u to continue ur exercise aerobically. and u will find that for what ever workload u are currently working for however long will become and ull will be feeling less fatigued, my advice to u is read up on nutrition i would have a high protien diet (60% protien 20 % complex carbs and 20%good fats like ur fish oils etc) take about 1500 calories on workin out days and non workin out days take 1000 to 1250, and work out on same workload and time for a month every other day untill u feel ur intial fintness improving then increase ur workload or time.

Katana, most of the advice you are being given is based on bodybuilding or powerlifting princples. With your stated goals, I assume that you aren't going to be shooting for a 1000lb squat or 22in arms. I highly suggest looking into a functional strength/fitness program to promote total fitness as oppossed to the "visual fitness" that most people chase.

I suggest that you take a look at crossfit.com and/or cavemanpower.com

Both promote total fitness and the workouts can be scaled to any fitness level from beginner to a 19-0 MMA fighter like myself.

An update: After about 6 weeks I've found that working out Mo, Tu, Th and Fr works best for me. I've also been able to cut meat out almost completely. I usually run 3 miles in the morning and again at night every day drinking a glass of unsweetened fruit juice and eating a banana beforehand, sometimes a power bar. I've taken off almost another 20 pounds and have noticeably more energy. Thanks for all the tips.

Good progress dude, however I'd just like to make a few observations:

1. 2 hour workouts = bad. After an hour of strenuous excercise your natural tesosterone levels will plumet - this is bad as you will be working out for a whole hour while in a massively catabolic state i.e you will be burning ALOT of muscle as oppossed to fat.

The idea is to maximise fat burning whilst minimising muslcular atrohpy i.e ripped sprinter vs. marathon runner look.

How to go about this? Split up your cardio and weight training - I think you are on the right track with the 3 mile split morning and night and I assume your workout is somewhere in the middle of the day? - If so, bottom line: limit your workout to 1 hour.

2. What are you workouts like? Are you doing splits or whole body workouts? I see you are working out 4 days a week. The general concensus, as well as several time Olympia winner Dorian Yates' opinion is that a natural athlete should only workout 3 days a week. With the high amount of cardio and resistance training you are doing, you are setting yourself up for a massive CNS burnout and bout of overtraining - not good.
