I don’t know what it is about tall guys but I lose ten IQ points for every inch over 6’ 2”. By the time they get to 6’ 6” I am a babbling idiot twirling my hair. Not sure why that is. But I also like them a little thick. I don’t like the skinny ones…. Hmmm, maybe it’s the bigger they are the harder they fall??

| Do tall guys intimidate? Posted: 8/27/2008 3:02:22 AM | I think tall is awesome I feel more intimidated by a guy being right all the time or being a lot smarter than me much more so than height | |

| Do tall guys intimidate? Posted: 8/27/2008 4:54:45 AM | Silent man sometimes I get the feeling that you just like hearing yourself talk. You ramble on way too much about something as simple as preference.
You know what? If you prefer a woman with big breasts, more power to you. I've run into guys who prefered Asian women...white women.....skinny women....petite women...women who know how to cook...women with no children....blondes...abusive women (yes a guy told me this, said i was too nice for him)....etc etc etc. In fact I dated a guy who was five ft four who refused to date a ''shorter'' woman. It is about personal preference.
So even though I'm not into tall guys myself, I will defend any woman who wishes to date them. Men say these same types of things to us, this is not a gender exclusive thing. I don't get my hackles up over it. If a guy isn't going to like me because of some perceived deficit, that's his issue so why should I care? I personally have a lot of preferences so why should I bash anyone who does the same? To each his own. We cannot help that which we are attracted to. We all know very well beauty is skin deep, and the majority of us are not dating any particular person because they are ''this'' or ''that''...we date them when we click with them (at least mature women and men do). I like guys near my height but it doesn't mean all men my height are a match for me. It doesn't mean I wouldn't date a tall guy if I met one who blew me off my feet.....it's just a preference.

| Do tall guys intimidate? Posted: 8/27/2008 9:07:07 AM | i also learn that it is not good to be both big and tall.
So yeah, my own self esteem problems has to do with my own weight. Even if i am tall and what not, and i fit the whole tall and dark.. I feel I do not have the handsome part. LOL
working on it | |

I think for the majority of us, it's a preference. After all if he's hot enough - it can certainly be overlooked : )
I'm not ashamed to say it would be hard for me to see a man that is 3' as "hot" Within reason, FE, within reason. lol 3' is a bit too short for me...and would be an extreme example. I don't think there are even 3' women that would have an easy time dating in the normal scheme of things.

Hmm, it seems I'm in the minority then. I'm not ashamed to say it would be hard for me to see a man that is 3' as "hot". Not to say it's impossible of course, but his being 3' tall would strongly affect whether I saw him as "hot" or not. I hadn't realized I was in the minority, but I'm glad to see extremely short guys have more chances than I had realized. I think it's a good thing. :)

Maybe it's cuz I'm a guy... But I really don't care about height much.. At all really. I could date someone really really short, or a woman 7 feet tall. o:
that said: For Falling Ember, Charmed an all those other women...
"You must be *this* tall to ride the 'Screaming Eagle'?"
Come on, that's a double pun right there!

Yeah, I'm not sure why that is. I've asked guys before if they'd rather go for a really tall girl with a gorgeous face or a really short girl with an ugly face. They all chose the gorgeous face girl because "pretty" trumped "height". I've never really analyzed it because most guys tend to be simple. Pretty = Good. Ugly = Not Good. If you don't stray too far from those two understandings, then you don't get confused when guys give their preferences.

Cute. :) I'd much rather be the Batman ride: I loved that thing. Yes, I carry a striped yardstick everywhere I go. If a date goes well, I whip it out just to be sure since eyes can deceive. I'd hate for us to get to my apartment and have him fail the emergency "Beside the Bed Stadiometer" test. That would just get ugly.
To those who are sensitive about the topic, I'm kidding. I can actually tell just by looking at a guy if he's taller than me or not. Attraction is generated without any equipment necessary.

I bet you have a life-sized Ceramic Mickey Mouse right next your bed post, don't you?
"honey, stand next to mickey so we can see if you measure up before climbing into bed."
I know there's a sex joke about penis size in there somewhere, I'm just not witty enough to bring it out.

If it were nothing more than a preference, you probably wouldn't see nearly the number of height-related threads that pop up in this particular forum. The problem many men have with height discrimination isn't that it's many ladies' preference, it's that it's a requirement from them, and when challenged, they attempt to defend it by saying it's a "preference" when it's obvious by their language and presentation that it's actually a requirement. So on top of being shallow for requiring something so meaningless (though likely nice to have), they throw in disingenuousness, and think that it's defensible. This is where my ire, and likely the ire of several other men (some of whom have spoken up, and some of whom likely haven't) comes from. You're right, we all have a right to our preferences, and honestly, we also have a right to our requirements. This doesn't, however, mean that when such preferences or requirements are presented in a public forum, that they aren't open to discussion and, if someone deems it necessary, deconstruction. Preferences are mutable, they're "things that are nice to have". Requirements are immutable; they're deal-breakers.
Let's sum it up again: the problem isn't with height preferences, the problem is with height requirements.

How important? Is it a deal breaker? If you saw a man who didn't meet whatever your height requirement (assuming you have one) is, would you categorically refuse him on the spot (or on the site, if he were to e-mail you here)? If so, then height is not only "very important" to you, it's the most important. This means you put a physical trait at the very top of your requirements, and by its very nature, such a perspective is shallow and vacuous. If this is the case with you, and you're fine with being that way, hey, good on you, at least you're being honest. It makes me pity you, but I'll at least give you points for honesty.

This is why Falling Ember can make intelligent contributions to this thread: she reads all the posts. She's informed. She knows what she's talking about. I don't agree with her perspective on height, even though her height requirement ("taller than her") would statistically include a large majority of men, but I can at least respect her for being willing to analyze her perspective in an attempt to understand why it's there. You? If you aren't reading every post (and this isn't even specifically about reading just my posts), you're coming into the discussion uninformed (or even worse, misinformed), and do yourself a great disservice in the eyes of others for your lack of depth on the topic at hand.
In short, it's your loss.

I think what your missing is that online...prefereances become requirements...especially for women. I don't think women come online with the same hopes or intentions men do. Guys come here and think:
a. Sweet I finally will have the courage to approach that woman I've always wanted. b. Sweet I'm going to get laid every night by a different woman
Unfortunately neither are likely to happen cause women come online thinking:
a. I'm going to only settle when I meet "my" perfect man b. I'll play it by year and only when someone really proves himself will I even talk to him
Togather...they make for a very difficult time for anyone to actually succeed online.
When someone says preferance online it is a requirement...online is a fairy tale story...in reality it is a prefereance...

The $10,000,000 question, then, is this: if it's just a preference, would you categorically refuse to consider a man who wasn't at least your height, or would you give him the same chance you give any other potentially interested party?
|
| Do tall guys intimidate? Posted: 8/28/2008 8:30:55 AM | | The lady has said that she has nothing against dating a short man, that she just never has. Is this an oppurtunity that you guy have found to pick a fight with her or try to tear her down? You need to stop. | |

| Do tall guys intimidate? Posted: 8/28/2008 9:00:46 AM | | Chuckyb51, why do you average to tall men have to speak up and support the shorter guys? Are they not able to stand up and speak for their self? Maybe that is why they don't get as many dates. I am a skinny boney guy, can't put weight on and it doesn't look good. But I will be damned if I sit around and have other guys going on like some of you have defending the rights of skinny guys like you do short guys. JMHO | |
