When he's just quietly whistling to himself because beautiful me has passed by, I take it as a compliment.

^^^^^^^^^^ I can't whistle......I tried it once when a pretty lady was walking past....and it sounded like I was blowing a raspbery.

She turned around and gave me the finger.....

We can't all be musicians...pfftt

They whistle because they view you as a piece of meat. Not as a person with inelegance and common since. That and they do not have a set of balls big enough to just say “Hi how is your day”. Face it most men are scared to death of rejection. We get this rejection do to the fact that most women are tired of putting up with Neanderthals.

So the whistle is NOT a compliment? You're saying the guy has degraded the woman in his mind?

I'm confused.

If an attractive women is "a piece of meat," what makes her hard to approach? It seems she's already been categorized as something less than human.

I have another question: Is there a female equivalent to whistling that you guys get?

I do it, and know what you mean. The reason I do it is because the first thought in my mind is not "wow, she looks like a nice person, I would like to get to know her personality..."
Instead of yelling "Hey baby, show me your boobs!" or, "Damn! Wrap those legs around me!" or, "I've got 200 bucks and twenty minutes, my car is air conditioned, want to hop in for a ride?" (innuendo and pun intended) I have to release the urge to act like what I have been taught is the behavior of a pig and it comes out in the low whistling.
So yes, it let's off steam so I don't make a creepy perverted ass out of myself.
Put another way it is identifying a one sided sexual chemistry and the release you hear is right after the social filters (superego) offset pure id behavior.
That's just me, maybe you live around a lot of asthmatics.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Good one!

Actually, there's a lot of stuff in the air in Dallas, and people's allergies get pretty bad. Maybe those whistles I hear are just men blowing their noses!

The old 'turn to friend, cup hand over mouth, comment and both giggle' chestnut.

This is the same procedure when you look bad or have toilet paper stuck to your foot though, so it would be silly to assume just because it happened that they were attracted, there are other options.

Women are not afraid to beep horns on cars if you are topless in public either.

How do you feel when you get the horn beep or hear girls giggling to each other? Complimented? Like "a piece of meat"?
Or some other feeling?

"If an attractive women is "a piece of meat," what makes her hard to approach? It seems she's already been categorized as something less than human."
In my opinion she has not become a piece of meat, just someone very desirable for short term mating from a moments interpretation of what she's presenting. She has not been categorized as 'something less than human,' as I don't f*ck animals. It isn't about judging or classifying her at all. The guy is merely reacting to his own desires without thought beyond that.
It's not that she's hard to approach, it's that after the initial reaction there are so many things screaming "Don't treat her like a piece of meat, she is not solely existing for your pleasure, judging her and treating her as such is wrong, what would her mother think? What would your mother think? What if she says no? How do you approach her and be successful? How do you approach her without looking and sounding like a pig?" By the time all of these things work through she is generally gone. Plus there is the realization if you approach her in a seemingly positive way (based on the initial attraction) seeking solely your own gratification, with a possible added bonus of sating hers, there will be potential consequences such as she judging me as treating her as "a piece of meat," and judging that I categorized her as "something less than human, " or,"just using her for sex," which would make me a bad person.

I have another question: Is there a female equivalent to whistling that you guys get?
Yes, yes there is, but I have found that most women have their own individual method of doing it. Try going to a Chippendales, or local beefcake tshirt contest, or open up the ol' firefighters yearly calendar and see what happens. You might want to bring earplugs and chocolate fudge cake for protection though.

I growl under my breath and say, "damn!" I would never do it at an audible level. At least sober

I pretty much do what he dose however it really sickens me when i'm at work and see a man say something to a woman that makes tons of women find all men pigs. Just a few days ago while at work I was taking care of a rather attractive woman just taking care of her like any other costumer and this older man walks up next to her at the other cash register, looks at her and says "damn hunny if I were only younger i'd so get in your pants." I was speachless I mean how down right rude of ANY man to say to a random woman right? When she continues to ignore him he says "thats right hunny I caught you glimpsing at me, I was talkin to you alright!" I just looked at her and whispered sorry to her and gave the guy a rude look luckly he left soon after that and I got to say sorry again to the woman as she waited with me until we saw the man get in the car then leave. I was afraid i'd have to kick someone out for once lol!

Anyway yea lots of men whistle, I find it rude with the loud whistle but every man says "damn" in his head at least when seein a cute woman lol. And I bet lots of women also say the same when they see a sexy man walking by I mean its only natural to do so imo.

I whistle a lot, not normally at a good looking woman... might be a car, bike, or maybe even a accident. Sometimes I whistle to whistle, oh yeah... that really gets people looking at me.

If he is whistling at you.. or something about you. Then feel good, there is something that grabbed thier attention. being a hair and eye guy... I whistle at women very rarely.

Yippie a different subject to comment on expect for the usual ones. lol.

I see whistling to be ok as long as its not over done. I hardly do it. I have bad, bad, bad allergies, I don't want to be gross so I'll leave it at that. So only if I'm clear then I might only if someone I notice and I want to get there attention. Sometimes it works sometimes it don't. Some women see it as offensive and others don't. But most of the time I just give a really big smile if I see something I like. And maybe a head turn also

Then if someone is with me I'm like "damn, (insert funny comment)." Like one time I saw this really hot girl and she was decked out in cowboy outfit. So I said save a horse ride a cowgirl. LOL. But its all just to be funny and cute.

Best of luck to everyone

I think it would be fun to get a referee's whistle, just everybody wear one on a lanyard, and blow it when they see somebody stunning. The stunner could also blow the whistle back at the original person. What fun!!

I think(at least in the past when I did it) it was a combination of surprise and admiration. So even if you don't like it, in an offhanded way, it's a complement. You go, goil!

If you're hot, just go with it. You should take most of it as a compliment. They find you sexy, attractive etc. I don't whistle very well, but I might growl a bit, then run in circles and piss all over myself. JOKING!! LOL
But if I caught her attention, I might end up being the one who's embarrassed.

I think it’s bonobo monkeys that make an “o” shape with their lips when they are exited by a potential mate. That’s similar to a whistle. I suppose the mature and confident thing to do would just be to smile instead of whistling or gawking. I take a different approach since I don’t like to get caught “looking”. I look the other way and chew on my fingers while muttering obscenities to myself.

Uncomfortable.

Guys think we should take it as a compliment. Walking up to me and talking would be a compliment. I've had guys walk up to me in the street and tell me I look good and it brightens my day, the ones that stand over the other side of the street and whistle I find derogatory, as was said earlier, they do the same if they see a car or a bike - it's a form of objectification, I'm not a person to them. Maybe I'm just too British.

H.x

Exactly, That's why I stick to "whoa" if she hears they'll usually ask what. It's not really listened for or easy to pick up like the whistle. Then you can reply whoa that was a big bee, or whoa i just got a chill its breezy and generally blow it off not making her feel uncomfortable.

It is literally to gain the attention of something. That is why people whistle instead of saying, hey over here! I have this weird habbit of calling children like dogs, where I slap my side twice and say the person's name :-) I was out with a friend that I accidentally did that to, cause she was spacing out at a crosswalk and it was time to go. She wondered, did you just do what you would do to get a dog's attention? She laughed and said, why didn't I just whistle and say "come here girl!"

Long ago it was difficult for men to capture women. Men lived in social groups, keeping the cave clean, farming, etc. , but women were as wild as a bear is today. To find a mate the men would stalk a group of wild women for days, to get close enough for a capture. Originally the men would just run one down and grab her, but women bite and scratch. It was at the time that tranquilizers were discovered. Shortly after the discovery they were used in combination with blow guns to take small game in trees. Well..........

Soon the tranquilizers darts were being used to capture the wild women. The wistle is simply a left over reminense of the ancient art of blow dart tranquilizing wild women.

Along with wistling, the traditional blowing of the kiss was a result of the need for multiple tranquilizations of the more wild women during the taming process. Today we use jewelry.

I think that it is just something that we learned as little boys. Plus we just can't help ourselves..........

I've never, ever seen a guy whistle at a good-looking woman and if I did I'd have a powerful urge to kick him back into the 1950s.
