You are assuming that this baby was stolen, just assuming.
And assuming it was stolen - the woman herself did not steal the baby, someone else (local) must have.
Still this is all your assumptions - as many people have already told you on this thread the baby may not be Nigerian and may have been sold by his own parents as reported. | |

Mind you if that happened this country would probably make babies free on the nhs to all immigrants, anything to further develop our countries role as the toilet of the world. | |

It's the lack of empathy for the child's parents that shocked me i rest my case... whos child or parent is worth more empathy ???? one cos shes nigerian and sold her child to live or one that bought a child to get a flat or one who is english.. so its the person who bought the child is the criminal.. the child is being abused.. not the one who sold/ or 'lost' them with neglect but ..thats ok cos shes british lets shove it under carpet and claim the next person as immoral who did wrong , the parents should have known better ? The child and the parents are victims of either stupidness or plain ignorance.. at the end of the day... the child IS the victim, not the whys or therefores. What about all the other UK cases born and bred that had children to gain the same perks... is that the same or will they be morally slammed too ? Like the 3 yr old that lived in neglect above a pub ?? I really dont see the difference . | |

Posted: 8/18/2008 4:18:46 AM | With cases like this you will never know the full truth as you are reliant on the person who committed the crime and they aren't going to tell the full truth in case it lands them in more trouble or contradicts what they have already said. A lot of assumptions have been made in this thread to back up their point of view, why? the facts are pretty damning on their own.
A woman has taken a child away from a family illegally and trafficked that child to this country on a false visa.
The same woman then used this child to illegally claim benefits and housing.
She is guilty of fraud, benefit cheatting, and human traffiking, even possibly kidknapping. The punishmnet for these very very serious crime is 23 months. This is an outrage and 20 years would in a maximum security prison would be more appropiate.
the victims of these crimes is the innocent child who is now going to be brought up in a care system that is already failing to many.
the parents of this poor child also require our thoughts, as they have had their child kidkanpped or are in such a destitute position that have had to sell their child to give it a better life.
The accusation that Brittian has come out of this badly or acted inappropiately is crazy as far as I can see except for the terribly inadequate sentence.
We have open immigration, we provide housing, health services to the needy on a needs basis. We are giving an innocent, but more thanlikely illegal immigrant child from Nigeria the best start that our social system affords and hopefully eventually a loving caring adoptive family. | |

Posted: 8/18/2008 4:35:07 AM | I have to say this does highlight the racial/cultural differences and why all of us have such a huge problem.
There was an assumption made, but a valid one as we know that babies are sold all the time by parents and by gangs of child kidnappers.
I think to say that that assumption is offensive is an over-reaction just as bad as our assumption.
No-one was trying to offend, most answers are given with an overview in mind, until facts come out and opinions become developed. If offense is taken it's often because is is inferred, because the person feels some sort of personal sleight and may even want to be offended.
There are ways of communicating and I think all would agree that they made the assumption that the child was bought off parents, but given that we aren't all trained social or justice workers and the enviroment we're talking in, I think it's a natural assumption to make.
Saying that, I do not question your description of Nigerians familial traits, but I think it't sophistry to base your perceived offense on the fact that you believe that not one single solitary Nigerian would be capable of this.
Many many families lives, including children, have been devastated around the world due to the actions of the renowned Nigerian scammers. That's fact.
Offensive I personally believe is a strong word and much overused in our country, mainly be people who wish to put the average run-of-the-mill Britain in their political place.
However, you are correct that we all made an assumption, whatever evidence it was based on. I hope you can forgive us as we forgive you and your countrymen their peculiarities. | |
