| Washed Away With The Tide

Seeing the surf rush up over the shingles
It is with wondrous mind that I do see
How feelings sight and sound mingles
Listening to the sounds as pebbles chink
Wondering how steadfast pebbles would be
As to disturb, sand and water interlink
Then slowly receding again leaving debris
The there is a moments of still silence more
Until far out the waves build once again
To roll in and shake up those pebbles on shore
Twisting and churning, how many will remain
And as I listen and watch this repetition
It seems that life follows much the same path
At least it seems to me and this is my suspicion
As the pebbles we suffer much the same wrath
Challenges of life rush frequently upon us
Send us churning and our lives in a spin
Bringing worries, strife and heartaches, thus
Causing pain, grief and tears from within
And hurtful times that must be braved
Those feelings of being lost deep inside
And the best we can hope for to be saved
Is that we’re not washed away with the tide
These times come upon us too often
Not knowing which way to look or turn
As we search for that helping hand to soften
The blows and find the peace that we yearn
There will be times of calm and peace
When we are happy with no concerns
And for a while all troubles will cease
But we know full well they will always return
Now as I gaze upon that far off skyline
All looks quiet, still, calm and serene
Upon the surface the glorious sun does shine
On varying vivid shades of blue and green
But below the surface lays we know not
We cannot see what lies ahead on our way
The future is untold; we are not able to plot
The happiness we dream of every day
But we must take life as it comes along
Live the best we can and live with pride
Believe in ourselves and stand strong
And hope we’re not washed away with the tide
