I fail at being Californian-anyone else?

I have lived in California for most of my life and I have been to many places here. However, I have not yet been to Big Sir or Shasta. I guess I can plan that for my vacation next year.

Do you realize how frikken BIG this state is?!!!
I'm a "native" and have maybe 10 drops in my travel bucket within the borders.
(I like to color outside the lines... e-x-p-a-n-d my horizons)
But even then, I've yet to fill a passport. No worries, the view from my back patio is outstanding!

Cut yourself some slack and enjoy the trip!

Big Sur
San Francisco
Big Bear
Santa Barbara
Yosemite
Napa Valley

I've lived here off and on since 1973, with huge spans of time spent in Chicago, Miami, and for most of the 70's, Spain.

Except for a couple of trips to Los Angeles and San Diego, I've rarely seen much outside of Orange County.

Tioga Pass opens tomorrow. I feel the call of the high country.

Did you do any hiking?

I thought "failing at being a Californian" meant not liking the beach.

Ahh no sense of adventure! The lighting is great in summer too! :-)
Late spring you can watch the rain fall but not hit the ground.

Just up 395, the ranger station Tom's Place has some great hiking. It's a glacier sculpted valley. If you keep going you get to Morgan Summit at 10000+ feet. The other side is scree slope and old mines. From over the summit looking back you can see the profile of the rolling hills of the Pleistocene epoch now cut into cliffs by the last glacier.

Then Mono Lake. Hike the craters and the fissures too!

The road from Mono Lake to Benton hot springs has the best high speed humps I've ever seen. Go really fast!!!!

I live in Santa Barbara real close to the ocean and I hardly ever go I've never been hiking, mountain biking, to red rock or dipping in our natural hot springs, I drove up San Marcos Pass once in my car and frooze at the wheel..I have never been to the Chumash Casino..Since I've lived in California I've been to Taft once and Disneyland once 28 years..
