. Upcoming UFC 84:Do you want to see Tito get whupped or do ya want to see him doing the whupping?
I'm thinking he is gonna go down.....I just wonder if his heart is really in the fight anymore

What are your predictions and why?

I'm going to get flamed to hell for my picks, but I usually go with my gut, and it's not steered me wrong...TOO often.

Sherk/Penn-I'm taking Sherk in this one. I see it going down one of two ways. Either Penn takes the first 2 rounds and starts gassing (we all know how suspect his cardio is), and Sherk takes the final 3 by holding him down and pounding on him. Sherk is such a strong wrestler, and while BJ is phenomenal off his back, I don't see him submitting Sherk. Sherk's been training his ass off since the steroid allegations, and I think you'll see him come out with a crazy intensity. I think Sherk gets a ref stoppage with elbows in the 4th round once BJ is tired.

Machida/Ortiz-Tito's last fight (presumably) in the UFC...it's a very interesting predicament. I believe that Tito comes out and stands with Machida for a very short amount of time, and after getting picked apart for about 2 minutes, takes Machida down and starts some good ole fashioned Tito Ortiz ground n' pound. Tito has one of the largest fan bases in the industry, and this, I imagine, is going to be sort of a going-away present for them. You'll see Tito in his old form and deliver Machida his first loss. Tito via Unanimous Decision.

Jardine/Silva-Now...this is the fight I had the most trouble deciding a winner. The Vegas oddsmakers have Jardine as a pretty big underdog, and I don't exactly disagree with that. Silva is one of the most dangerous fighters out there, and coming off the loss to Chuck Liddell, as well as back-to-back KO losses in PRIDE to Dan Henderson and CroCop, he's going to be hungry for a win.
HOWEVER...Jardine is SEVERELY underrated, and he has the type of style that might just give Wanderlei problems. He throws heavy, heavy bombs..each of his punches is looking for a knockout, and his kicks are deadly accurate. I think we see a GREAT war...both men standing and trading, with Keith backing off and using the leg kick very effectively, hurting Silva's mobility. Ultimately, I think Jardine takes it with a round 3 KO/TKO.

So, if you took the time to read all of that, you might realize that in the 3 main fights, I picked the underdogs in each of them....I might be a little crazy, yeah...hell, they might ALL end up getting beat, but these fights, in my opinion, are ALL great matchups, and really could go either way. Regardless of the outcome, it's going to be a hell of a night of fights.

If Tito is back to his old form it should be an awesome fight. Funny that you mention it is PRESUMABLY Tito's last fight. We all know it is being touted as his last fight yet he still feels the need to state he has at least 3 more years of fighting in him? I guess we will see.

My vote is for Jardine in the Jardine vs. Silva. Haven't decided on a pick for Sherk/Penn yet.

OT: I am having a brain fart. Can anyone recall who it was who knocked himself out on the take down several years ago? I cannot recall who it was and it is driving me crazy.
Yeah, and it sucks when the fights end too quickly.....lol

I think we'll probably see Tito end up going to EliteXC or with Affliction. There's just been too much heat between him and Dana over the years, and he's publicly voiced how unhappy he is.

This has actually happened twice to my knowledge in the UFC. The first time was Matt Lindland against Falaniko Vitale at UFC 43 6-6-03, and the same thing happened on the TUF 5 Finale. Gray Maynard took down Robert Emerson and KO'd himself as well as Emerson. That fight was declared a No Contest.

Hmmm, the one I am thinking of happened around 2004-2005 I think. It was while I was still living in Indiana and I lived there from 7/2004 to 7/2006. It has been driving me crazy--I have googled and googled and cannot find it. I remember thinking that the PPV had not been worth the $$ cause they ended up filling with alot of un-known fighters.lol

Lindland had fallen backwards with Vitale in his guard, hit his head and was knocked out. But the one I am thinking of went FORWARD( you know, basic takedown with arm at waist, head on the side, hooking with the leg) with the take down and planted his head into the mat and was out like a light. The other guy was unscathed, in fact had started pounding the 1st guy before they realized the 1st guy was out.....ARGG that is frustrating not to remember who that was......

Lindland Vitale was in June 2003.

Maybe you are thinking of Mark Kerr Yoshihisa Yamamoto Pride 27 ,Feb 2004.

Kerr knocks himself out around 40 seconds into the fight. (He was going forward.)

YES YES YES Thank you --it WAS Kerr!!! I had the takedown and date a little off (Well and it was Pride and not UFC lol)but YES that was the one I was thinking of. Sometimes after watching so many fights it is hard to remember dates and such lol

And thanks for the link--

That was awesome...I'm really excited for that fight, but also for how they spin it afterwards. If Tito wins, does he get to talk in an interview, or is Dana not going to let him have any last words?

Yeah, it was great when Tito showed off that shirt. Whichever way it goes what occurs after the match should be interesting. I have a feeling Tito will get his say regardless. Should be interesting to say the least. I am more excited about UFC84 than I have been in a while--
but of course I am already looking foward to the Forrest/Rampage matchup too.

The way the Jardine fight went was a big surprise. Did not see that going the way it did.

Expected Tito to do a little better than he did--valiant try on the triangle/arm bar. Cool how Machida rolled out though.

And Sherk--he took a beating

I had a bad feeling about the Jardine fight as soon as they both walked in. Wand looked calm and ready and intense, Jardine looked scared...

Wandelei VS Jardine was startling. Supposedly, Jardine was unconscious about about 4 minutes after the end of the match. Damn. Hopefully the guy is ok. He is a good fighter and I'm sure everyone would like to see him back.

Sherk VS BJ was weird too. I cannot for the life of me understand Sherk's choice of tactics. Ok, his initial takedown attempts failed miserably and he was doing a decent job boxing with BJ. But, and this is a big but, Sherk and his corner had to have seen that they were not winning definitively by fighting a standup fight. Sherk is one of the best at changing levels and surpising opponents with lightning fast takedowns. I was really surprised that he didnt stick with his forte. I certainly hope he wasn't hoping he could tire BJ out at the pace they were going.

Despite that I have alotta respect for Sherk. Bj is one of the best and Sherk held his own until the end. Sherk's punches were also blazingly fast!

WOOO HOO WANDY!!!!!!

This was the fight I was most nervous about, but Wandy delivered the goods.

Poor Sherk. His little T-rex arms just couldn't reach BJ. We still haven't answered BJ's cardio question though. Fight got stopped in the 3rd.

I nearly had a heart attack when Tito applied the triangle. Damn it would have been sweet if he won by arm bar. Dana would have had a fit.

Good night all round. WTF did they have the Sokodju fight on the undercard!?

Best card in a long time. Definitely better than the show that DREAM3 put on.

**SPOILERS FOR ENTIRE EVENT**

Bjs footwork and upper body movement was phenomenal while he was pumping out that jab. And what a jab! Sherks shots were like pillows, and it wouldn't have mattered even if he did land one. He obviously underestimated Bjs cardio if he thought he could wear him out by playing the role of punching bag for 3 rounds. His corner should have told him to go for the TD after the 2nd.

Machida tooled Ortiz just like I knew he would. Machida was 5 feet across the ring by the time Tito could finish throwing a punch. He shrugged off Titos takedowns like GSP shrugged off Hughes. Lyotos takedown at the end of RD 1 could have ended the fight.
Then he slams Tito with the same curved knee strike he used to take out Franklin!
I wasn't worried when Tito threw up the triangle. Machidas shoulder was never in, and Tito didn't feel like he had to lock up his foot because he thought it was.
Bye Tito, see ya in EliteXC.

Wandy/Jardine couldn't have made me happier. I was expecting a Wandy that would be cautious, which would have been bad, because he would have been in Jardines legkicking range all night. Instead we saw the axe murderer come in and start windmilling haymakers as soon as Keith threw one of those hurky jerky kicks.
Flurried him to the ground, then grabbed him by the throat and punded out his ****in jaw.

Viscious, brutal, relentless. The Wanderlei Silva of old. It looks like they traveled back in time to 2003 and stole him from the Pride Shockwave or something.
But after he rematches Jackson and Liddell, I think that's when he will announce the drop to 185, followed shortly after with a huge Silva vs Silva PPV. I'm not saying there's a shortage of opponents in the stacked 205 division but everyone wants Wandy at 185. His training camp, Dana, etc...

I'm really happy with the amount of pre-lims they squeezed into the show!
Shane Carwin sending Wellischs mouth piece flying backwards was just plain awesome.
If you like to buy the unaired prelims, Hyun Kim vs Jason Tan was a good 2 and a half round war, war machine got anacondad in 1 minute by Yoshiyuki, Clementi scored a UD win over Terry etim. Sokoudjous opponent couldnt even come out for a second round (Sok calls out SHogun, nice).
Thiago Silva pulls out an impressive win over Antonio Mendez, TKO via strikes in the first.
Mendez had scary power in those first kicks he threw. Anyone whose ever bllocked a kick with the left bicep/right forearm method would know what I'm talkin about. They were blocked completely but just the sheer force of them was amazing.
Goran reiljic, a friend of Crocops came in and put Gouveia down in the second round. Interesting to see him throwing his kicks exactly like Crocop, turning his hips wayyyy over before even lifting his leg, getting that nice whip motion.
Most impressive prelim for me was Salaverry vs Palhares. Rousimar Palhares is a monster of jujitsu, and exactly what we need at 185 to challenge anderson silva. This guys jits is ****ing amazing. He went from a RNC attempt from the back, to an armbar in like half a second, and with such fluidity. From the back to an armbar! That guy would twist Anderson and his brown belt skillz into a pretzel if it hit the ground.

Overall, great card, and I hope they can continue to put out cards of this quality.

Definitely. That transition to the armbar was great. Not only that, but Ivan Salaverry is pretty decent on the ground, so the ground win was all the more impressive. I remember that Ed Herman did a transition from back to armbar once that was also pretty sweet, but in that case the camera angle didn't show it as well.
