| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 5:47:43 AM | I'm just curious, how many of you take the time to say hi to or have a quick chat to the people who serve us during the day??
Whether it be at the servo, supermarket, the cafe for lunch the restaurant for dinner, how many of you really acknowledge the people who serve you??

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 5:52:30 AM | I say hello to everyone even people who go pass my house....the other day I went to the petrol station and said hello and smiled, the guy behind the counter was very happy and when I bought a Fredo frog he made Fredo hop on the counter and started saying "boing, boing , boing" until poor Fredo got Zapped and came with me...
so I suppose I need to be a little less happy when I greet people next time.

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 6:00:12 AM | Believe it or not, but I am the biggest snob in public. If I see someone I know, I deliberately avoid them.
But today, I went to get some cool drink from the local servo. OMG! You should have seen this guy that was serving me! I sure said hello to him. Yummy.

I am VERY picky but not a snob....but if I am in a hurry and see someone I know I too deliberately avoid them specially if they talk a lot...but if I see someone I don't really like and I know them I still avoid them since I don't want to pretend that I like them

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 6:12:31 AM | Used to work in retail so if the person greets me I always say hi and ask how they are..... Little old ladies or gents in the supermarket love a smile and hello. I smile at everyone - makes them wonder what youve been up to Though my Uncle used to say 'keep smiling the boss loves idiots'
Courtesy is FREE and so are smiles, also contageous according to a poem I read

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 6:19:02 AM | I work in a supermarket... It never suprises me how RUDE the general public are Some people have no idea how to even say hello Sometimes just a smile would be nice
To those of you out there that talk on ur phone or dont even say hello
Karma is a **** - it will come back to you!!!

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 6:26:24 AM | | I usually try to strike up a conversation with anyone behind the counter if they don't first, time allowing. Was watching Harrison Ford's bio today and as most would know he started out his working life as a carpenter. He obviously knows the value of a hard days work and what living as a 'commoner' is all about and is apparently very approachable at his workplace "on set" to all and sundry. He tells dirty jokes and helps out with set building and stunt co-ordination etc etc..but maybe I am just one of the millions that believe this celebrity beat up crap..he's probably an untouchable bigoted meglomaniac that wants me to see him as just a regular everyman..Now..what was the topic again?..lol | |

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 6:33:55 AM | | im a creature of habit so i know the people in shops quite well so it is always about saying hello and having a bit of a chat......im really good at having chats with me neighbours and some people i walk past who i just say hi too but i dont really hold conversations that much in general, i just tend to do tasks and go home rather then take my time. But i think a lot can be said about greeting people with a smile and a hi because it makes people more comfortable | |

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 6:42:19 AM | This is not a back pedal, but I don't want to have contact with people who I know in a shopping centre for the following reasons: I am always in a hurry The people I see always ask about my family, all my family, but they never think to pick up the phone and call my family to see how they are doing I end up talking to people for more than half an hour because of all of this.
But I always talk to the person who is serving me, it is just common curtessy, and they only talk to me when the transaction is going through.

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 7:12:09 AM | | Always. I always chat to people in the service industry. You often find they are nice, and their's more to them than their job. Wow - go figure...lol. Also means they won't spit in your food...lol | |
|
| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 7:29:21 AM | | Well i just think it is just the right thing to do, say thankyou , please . Not sure that is much to ask is it... My thoughts | |
|
| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 1:06:54 PM | Hello and how are you to the servo guys, oh and the girls that make my morning coffee at the office. Sometimes chat to the people serving me at the supermarket if they look friendly - wont bother if they are looking sullen. Actually come to think of it I'll talk to anyone lol | |
|
| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 2:13:58 PM | Yeah....I'm a bit of a jibberer, for those of you who didn't already know that! I'll say gidday and have a bit of a laugh if there's anything remotely amusing happening....costs me nothing. And it's real...I don't say hellohowareyou just for the sake of opening my mouth. Can't stand that.
AddictedtoTatts - I worked as a checkout chick in K-Mart once...and I agree. People can be extremely rude. I hated it. But a job's a job....

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 3:25:56 PM | | lol i talk to everyone and their dog!! even talk to the guys holding the roadworks sign that tells me im may be stopped for 15 minutes....after all what else am i going to do for 15 minutes???? | |
|

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 4:40:56 PM | When I worked as a checkout chick, I could only talk once I'd finished checking all the groceries (I'm male ok!) and then the customer just wanted to walk away.
My servo has a guy filling up the cars and wiping windscreens, and he says hello to the flag poles. I try to outdo him, but usually I just keep to myself. I do have a smile and friendly wave to everyone though. When asked if I know that person I just waved at, I answer "not yet."
|
| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 4:47:47 PM | Always try to to talk to everyone who takes the time to respond to me. Someone once said to me, 'Always leave em laughing' so i always try & find the funny side of most situations. Got to say though, i was pulled over by the blue light yesterday, he informed me that i'd just exceeded the speed limit by 15 klm per hour. I tried to make light of the situation by having a joke with him. But alas he handed me a fine for $79.00 Might have to change my thinking along those lines in the future. But having said that, he did tell me to have a nice day as we parted ways. Might be reverse physcology perhaps. Hmmm. | |

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 5:14:36 PM | Well, I've found that city people are much ruder than those country. I was brought up in the parramatta/bankstown area then moved to Orange about 6-7 years ago, and now work at Bunnings as a register chick.
I'm 'required' by my job to say 'hello' and 'hi' to the customer. I'm not required to carry a conversation or acknowledge them any further... but I do anyway cause... well, I like talking and seeing how people's days are. And it also crushes the bordem of an 8hr shift where we're not allowed to walk further than the 1st few Isles or further than our tea room. But I do love my job, it's the 1st I've ever had, but it's the best start cause you meet the trade people and bosses who come in to purchase their stock.
Truthfully, I ignore the snobs, they mean nothing other than they're paying my wage. So either way, they're losing money while it goes in my pocket.

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 8:27:43 PM | In the real world, i'm sure most people would appreciate a polite acknowledgement of their existance.
In the world of internet dating the entire concept......at least for the better part.......would seem to be null and void.
|
| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 8:51:05 PM | I skip the "hi" part and just go straight to "do you have a webcam"
but seriously i am a chatter box in the real world, always take the time to say hello, and ask them how their day is. it never cease's to amaze me how far a quick "hello hows you day?" gets you and it costs absolutely nothing to be polite. or how much more you get at restaurants
|
| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 8:52:57 PM | You know... I'm a pretty friendly person, and I'm not afraid to greet people... But I don't greet EVERYONE (unless I'm at work) and I very rarely enter into mindless chatter with people while I'm wandering through the world, just for the sake of it. I do smile pretty freely and am usually polite, but the moment someone starts off loading too much of their world, I tend to just wish them a good day and wander off.
I often think my online friends have a headstart when they meet me in real life... I'm more inclined to actually share my thoughts here and in msn, than I am verbally. In real life, I tend to just grin or nod and listen... I will intentionally keep things on a friendly surface level. Online, I guess I tend to just type what I'm thinking... and if someone has communicated with me online, then they usually have been given a little more insight into the "inner workings of the Bionic Angel", than they would be offered in a face to face situation, I think.

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/25/2008 11:51:19 PM | Yeah, that's my other thing, I pat every dog that I see too and play with them like we're old mates.
Must be a country girl thing

| How Many Take The Time To Say Hi?? Posted: 5/26/2008 12:40:06 AM | "Hello how are you sir" "Good thanks, yourself?" "Good thank you"
That is the conversation I usually have. It satisfies me. I am rarely at the counter long enough to talk more, I approach the counter with as close to correct money as I can get, or with my card out already. Particularly buying movies tickets, I am usually away from the counter before the person before me has finished sorting their stuff out.
Protip: When a serving person asks how you are, do not tell them. Just politely say "good thanks" and ask how they are. No one wants to know about your ulcerated blister or itchy groin area.
