Nothing beats the season w/ my beloved Dave Martin (that guy cracked me UP!) and the evile Tiffany.
Anyone else in to this show? I actually learn alot on it and take risks with throwing things together that I normally wouldn't try.

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/25/2008 8:33:43 PM | Hi Katie - yes, I really enjoy it too! I'm usually amazed at what they come up with, especially in the quick-fire challenges. But I'm not an adventurous eater or cook, so many of the things they dream up wouldn't be something I'd try. Who's your favorite this year?

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/25/2008 8:37:40 PM | | Hi Debbie! Well, I think my favorite is Antonia. I really like her. I also like the guy w/ the faux hawk. But I find it entirely lacking in DRAMA ....;) I don't really remember any of their names at this stage which is unusual. Who do you like for the win? | |

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/25/2008 8:39:16 PM | OP...Hello! And I LUV your username, too! omgosh! Maybe I need to get a life, but I LUV "Top Chef", and the current season being in Chicago, is only miles from me. But, yes, this season has been a bit of a let down. They need to change it to "Top Caterers". (good grief!)...LOL I'm anxious to continue watching this thread, & it'll be great talking about all the seasons! | |

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/25/2008 8:41:39 PM | Hi Cousin Holly! ;) You're my chic big city cousin.
Who stands out in your mind from past seasons (other than Sam?). haha Everyone loves him.
I also grew to love the arrogant Stephen..remember him? The sommelier?

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/25/2008 10:00:28 PM | | LOVE Top Chef!!!!!! Huge Fan!!! I am not a fan of Antonia, I find her too whiney. I think probably Richard is the best although I am pulling for Stephanie too. I need Lisa gone, I really can't stand her! | |

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/25/2008 10:15:48 PM | Not that I'll admit to watching "Reality TV" or anything else on Bravo...
What the heck were they thinking when they tossed Dale? He was a pain, and only cooked Asian- but mostly likable, as opposed to that argumentative, no-responsibility bi-och who forked up RICE twice!!! [EDIT: LISA!!. Thanks, I forgot her name and saw it above one] How simple is it to do RICE? Even in a busy kitchen with bunches of stuff going on at once- it's RICE!!! Boil water, toss in rice, simmer low 15 min, turn off and leave it alone for another 5 minutes. Done. She-itski on a shingle... Oh wait... she done been sah-bo-too-gee-duh That makes it OK. I hope she goes next. She not only needs to pack her knives, she needs to box them up and return them to the maker with a note that says "I don't deserve anything sharper than my ability, so send me a spoon"
I've tried a couple of ideas from the show... a chicken thing from last season that turned out OK, but wasn't a 'keeper' recipe, and a couple of combinations I wouldn't have otherwise thought of using, especially a Gorgonzola Cheesecake. Now THAT sounds good.
But, yeah, this season isn't memorable at all- even if it is in my backyard. The competition isn't up to the usual standards. A couple of "stars", but most look like 2nd or 3rd level food prep drones- good knives, but little else (That guy who served scaley fish?). At least the guest judges are interesting- Bourdain was great, and Padma is looking hotter than ever- must be to make up for the lack of cooking talent.

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/25/2008 10:45:28 PM | I love love love that show..and I'm Man enough to admit it. LOL. I have had the pleasure of meeting Harold (season one winner) in his restaurant in NYC this past fall and he was very cool but his food was out of this world! If you are ever in NYC you have to stop in.
I think Richard is the best for this season but he is going to have a few others to worry about. I don't think they are making it very hard for them though..not like te last few years at least. I love to cook and have made several of the dishes shown its a great show in the cooking sort of way... I'm just not one for all the drama though..
anyways that's my .02ยข and I'm sticking to it.

Charon! I almost snorted my Pinot out of my nose on that one!
Breadman, you lucky dog! I would LOVE to go to Harold's restaurant...Perilla? Isnt' that it? What did you have there? I was so glad he won too...over that evile Tiffany who stole Dave's panna cotta and called it her own. grrrrr

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/26/2008 12:38:41 AM | Thank you everyone, for the posts. And especially Madame OP, "you are brilliant"! (I feel like I finally have someone that knows and understands the power of Top Chef.) Back to business....I am going to miss Dale, but it went down like Tre last year. Tre was one of the season's most accomplished chefs, but it is the head chef that paid the ultimate price, during Restaurant Wars. They tossed Dale because of Tre, from the past season. This season barely has any memorable moments or quotes, or funny clips. The best from last year, had to be Hungs....."Smurf Village"! (too funny!) and the episode "Snacks on a Plane", where poor CJ was eliminated because of his "ode to broccolini." LOL | |

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/26/2008 7:10:19 AM | NO ONE will ever upquote my Dave's "I'm not your b-itch, B-itch!".
(trying to see if I can slip thru the censors)

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/26/2008 9:20:54 AM | I love Top Chef although I do not think this is their best season of contestants. Dale had to go for 2 reasons. First of all he throws too many temper tantrums and a successful chef needs to be a leader in the kitchen who can get along with others working with him. Secondly, he is not diversfied enough in his cooking to hold the title of "Top Chef". Even though he is normally successful in his Asian style cooking, that is all he can do. I am glad that the self centered kitchen bully is gone. I think Richard will take it all. He is creative and plays well with others. I do like Stephanie and Antonia but neither of them is strong enough to beat Richard. | |

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/26/2008 10:28:39 AM | I absolutely loved Dave! The "I'm not your b-itch, b-itch!" moment was classic..! I think that was spoken to Tiffany during a group challenge.
But one of my favorite moments was when Ilan and Elia shaved their heads in season two. It was absolutely priceless!
As for this season, Lisa has got to go! I cannot believe she is still on the show after all the mess ups she has done.
Who would you all say is your favorite contestant over all the seasons? I would probably chose Elia, I liked her a lot and thought she totally could have won the show over Ilan, especially because he mostly cooked Spanish food. And I also thought Harold was pretty amazing.

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/26/2008 10:38:21 AM | i hate how they just run the re-runs to death. But yeah, i've been a big fan of top chef, iron chef (japan) and some US iron chef.
This season the contestants are a little low quality. It's pretty obvious that Richard is the most experienced of the bunch. The test are just sous chefs.
I love the quick fire challenges....
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/26/2008 6:42:18 PM | | It is a good show to watch and learn a few tips from. I would say that I would like to see Stephanie and Richard as the final 2 contestants. I think that they both wide vision on food and come up with some good combinations that balance well. | |
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/26/2008 7:04:04 PM | I love the show, but haven't had any real time to sit and watch the last few episodes. So I'm clueless as to what has transpired. I like Richard and Stephanie too. My all-time favorite was Ilan. Crazy hair cut and weird glasses, such a cutie. I loved the riff that went on between him and Marcel. | |

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/26/2008 9:54:26 PM | | Love the show...and i concur this season is a bit weak thus far. Love Top Chef for ideas and the competition...and also really enjoy Hells Kitchen...gotta love Chef Ramsey. LOL | |
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/27/2008 8:53:16 AM | | I have watched the show but find it all far too contrived for the sake of fitting a "reality show/ competition" genre. I agree with the previous poster that Hells Kitchen is a better watch... Whatever you think about Ramsey's personality, the show is at least about finding out who can cut-the-mustard as a line cook in a top-notch kitchen.... okay, okay it's also about new and imaginative ways someone can be humilliated... sigh.... reality TV ! | |
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/27/2008 9:12:43 AM | I watch it. Interesting show. I like the quickfire callenges best. I think Antonia is going all the way.
And as an aside Mmmmmmmm Padma!

| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/27/2008 1:06:57 PM | I'm a newbie to the show as this is my first season watching Top Chef and I truly love it. I have been watching the re-runs on Bravo of other seasons and it's been interesting. I do agree with you, Barbe, that Richard and Stephanie are two of the best left and are my "top" choices to win. I'm not a fan of Lisa, Spike, and sorry to say, nor Antonia. Although Antonia hasn't been so whinny lately in some of the shows, however, I do feel IF she hadn't been so negative during the first few episodes, She might have been one of my favorites. Who knows! She does seem to be a competent Chef, and, yes, she even gained some points with me on the Restuarant Wars (their team event). However, not enough for me to root Antonia on and drop my votes for Richard or Stephanie as Top Chef. I feel that Richard has a lot of talent and such bright, new ideas and concepts that he brings to food that it is going to be tough, even for Stephanie to beat him out, in my opinion.
As for who should go next, Spike or Lisa, I would have to say Lisa. I feel it's time for her to leave. I feel that Spike will "slice" his own throat in only a matter of time amongst the others chefs as I don't feel his talents are as strong. I feel that Lisa has skated through this whole contest by luck and I feel that that "luck" is running out for her.
|
| Does anyone watch Top Chef? Posted: 5/27/2008 7:14:09 PM | | I love the show. I was a little disappointed that Dale got kicked off on the last episode. I'm not sure who I want to win just yet. I like Richard a lot, for once they have a gastro cook that isn't full of attitude and is actually pretty down to earth. Antonia is starting to grown on me as well. :) | |
