| Faux News Contributor, Liz Trotta, Openly Calls for Obama Assassination Posted: 5/26/2008 6:32:15 PM | Wow, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. And the host was just "ha-ha'ing" right along with her. Here's the video:

Appearing on Fox News on Sunday, Trotta, a former editor with the Washington Times and reporter for the Chicago Tribune and Newsday, was asked by the host, Eric Shawn, about the Clinton controversy and the 2008 race. This led Trotta to refer to the Clinton misstep.
Trotta, according to now widely-circulated video, replied, "And now we have what some are reading as a suggestion that somebody knock off Osama, uh Obama. Well, both, if we could." She laughed.
The host, Shawn, clearly understanding how far she had gone, quickly commented: "Talk about how you really feel."
Here are some articles. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-seitzman/is-the-secret-service-inv_b_103565.html

======================
One article mentioned maybe the Secret Service should investigate her. Don't know about that, but I definitely think this isn't going to go away for her anytime soon. Very stupid move on her part, even if she thought it was joking.

| Faux News Contributor, Liz Trotta, Openly Calls for Obama Assassination Posted: 5/26/2008 7:00:03 PM | Wow. That is low and sad, to say the least. I don't care if I weren't an Obama advocate, that is just low class.
Unfortunately, she'll probably be back on tv tomorrow night, and the next night, and the next night, and now we all know how she does really feel. Ugh.

| Faux News Contributor, Liz Trotta, Openly Calls for Obama Assassination Posted: 5/26/2008 7:13:41 PM | It's a joke, relax. Kind of funny joke actually. I really don't think it was a joke, I believe that she actually meant it and just didn't realize at that moment that she let herself say what she truly thought. I actually see it coming. I'm not an obama supporter but there are so many closet racists in America still. I doubt he will make it to the conventions. Just in my neighbourhood alone I hear these white supremistss talking about it,and this is in canada ? But I'm right next to detroit so it's a bit scary when you think about the good ol boys down south and what they are thinking. | |

| Faux News Contributor, Liz Trotta, Openly Calls for Obama Assassination Posted: 5/26/2008 7:20:45 PM | Even if it *is* a joke - for her to say that on TV is beyond comprehension.
I am by no means an Obama supporter - in fact, he is the least likely of the candidates that I would vote for because he is so extremely liberal and his stances are miles away from my own. However, I feel this woman seriously crossed the line, and should be taken to task for it.
There is a petition to have her fired.

Yes, there is the First Amendment regarding Free Speech, but for her to take Hillary to task regarding mentioning RFK's assassination, and then HERSELF talking about having Osama and Obama bumped off ("well, both of them if we could" is what she said) -- is really the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it?
Also, as one of the articles brought up:
The questions the Secret Service should be asking are: Were Liz Trotta and FOX News criminally negligent in using the public airwaves to suggest the assassination of a presidential candidate; Is the suggestion of political assassination an example of legitimate criticism; and, If the First Amendment doesn't allow one to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater or "Bomb!" on an airplane, how could it allow a public "joke" about assassinating a political candidate?
And what is the question the rest of us should be asking? How about, what kind of world are we creating for ourselves and our children where we allow our political divisions to become so deep that the suggestion or even the joke about a political assassination is in any way acceptable? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-seitzman/is-the-secret-service-inv_b_103565.html
I do wonder what Dr. Ron Paul would say about this, as he is totally for free speech. However, I really feel he would not find her comments acceptable.

I'm not an RP supporter for a few reasons, but most of that is his foreign policy, not his domestic policy.

BTW, calling a woman the B word is offensive and sexist- when the word fits I use it ! and since when has it become offensive and sexist it's just a word like Assshole and how many times have you used it ? Yes I have no use for fables about silly god stories my life revolves around proven realities.

| Faux News Contributor, Liz Trotta, Openly Calls for Obama Assassination Posted: 5/26/2008 7:37:41 PM | | There was a documentary released in 2006 called "Death of a President" about the assassination of the current President. Apparently that opened the door to making assassination fantasies acceptable for public conversations and jokes. Before , the crazies only heard about assassination from the voices in their heads, but now they can turn on any newscast and feel validated. | |

Well, I feel that she crossed the line. I am all for free speech, so maybe this is hypocritical of me? I don't know. But I feel there are some exceptions to the free speech right, just as pointed out in the article - which says.......
"If the First Amendment doesn't allow one to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater or "Bomb!" on an airplane, how could it allow a public "joke" about assassinating a political candidate?"
That was also my first thought/analogy of the situation. While people should be able to freely speak their minds, you're talking about the assassination of a presidential candidate. To me, that does require some form of modesty in your speech - even if you privately feel he should be "knocked off" (as she put it).

| Faux News Contributor, Liz Trotta, Openly Calls for Obama Assassination Posted: 5/26/2008 10:22:58 PM | Ive listened to this a few times. I don't see what she said that was so terrible - she's clearly denouncing talk of assassination or suggestions thereof - in fact, she is lambasting Hillary's lack of judgement throughout the piece - nowhere did I hear any tacit approval of such talk.
She blundered and said Osama/Obama - something I've heard countless times in jest, but also in genuine confusion - Ted Kennedy, the most egregious political butcher of the English language, blundered over his name a few times as well. She blundered and it sounded more to me as if she was laughing at the thought of Osama bin Laden being assassinated - something I'd think was entirely appropriate.
But all these demands for her firing because she said something stupid? Have we not learned anything from this? Don Imus, anyone?

| Faux News Contributor, Liz Trotta, Openly Calls for Obama Assassination Posted: 5/26/2008 10:26:17 PM | "The Clintons haven't killed anyone, only a moron would believe otherwise"
There are quite a lot of people in Yugoslavia, Bosnia and Somalia who would argue otherwise. But I guess you mean 'white people'? After all, when you bomb another country that's not really "killing people" that's "saving them creatively with bombs".

It's a word you should start living by.

Remember folks, say it with me now.
IOKIYAR: It's OK If You're a Republican.

I suspect that the person was alluding to some of the outlandish claims made by people about Clintons personally arranging the murder of various people within the USA.

Oh that's right, I forgot - only American lives matter. If you kill some dirty foreigner, it's okay. It's just "foreign policy". Their lives are unimportant.
