| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 5/26/2008 7:29:15 PM | So at the age of 45, I finally put on a black polo shirt and was told that it looks good on me, and that black is my color... So today... I read that these things are now out of style... La.. De... Da... I went from a button down to the freakin' polo... I seem to be out of sync here... What the heck is in style? How about helping out those of us who are fashion challenged... Please. | |

Younger guys like 20-25 probably don't like them and want to wear a torn T-shirt with saggy pants. Slightly older guys such as myself wear polos to work and sometimes out and bout. Now black, dark blue, and brown are all winter colors. So maybe you should try something like a dark green, light blue, or salmon colored polo for the spring/summer. You would be surprised at the compliments.

He could always get the ones with the fuzzy cuffs to match the boa.... now THAT would be hot
He could indeed. But, some guys are not into fuzzy ones (go figure).
And.. he'd have to get several pairs, to match each of the boas... The steel ones, however, will go nicely with any of the boas... and the collar... and... well, I'll leave something to imagination.
Also... (I am surprised that no one mentioned it yet): Spandex Shorts - red, if you ask me... but, some gals like them yellow.

| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 5/26/2008 9:50:38 PM | Actually, according to most of the trendy clothing stores across Canada, a polo-style shirt is still "IN". My son is a fanatical clothes hog! We are usually buying him something every week, and of course at his age, it HAS TO BE "IN". He wears Polo-style shirts quite a lot. They are more tailored, have funkier patterns, different collars, etc.. And look a lot better than a t-shirt. However, if the polo shirt you put on is faded, holey, or dirty, you may want to consider purchasing something new. You can make your own statement regardless of the cut of clothing, or the year you bought it. You may want to make sure that the clothing FITS you for starters, nothing too tight across the tummy unless you have six-pack abs, the shoulder seam should fit AT the shoulder, not hang below, or be halfway between the shoulder and your neck.. short sleeves shouldn't be any longer than halfway between the elbow and shoulder, and not much shorter either. Jeans are always in, provided they aren't the jeans you wear when you are crawling under the car, and when you bend over the crack or your arse isn't showing. SHOES - always wear shoes appropriate for the clothing you are wearing - running shoes with Dockers, dress pants, or Chinos.. NOOOOOOOOO.. a nice flat loafer, or slip on shoe will look good.. SOCKS AND SANDALS?? DO NOT DO THAT either. White running shoes only look good with sweat pants as far as I am concerned. Other color running shoes/sneakers - with jeans sometimes... If you are ever in doubt with what's in style - check out the mannequins in the windows of the more trendy clothing stores.. ask for advice as to what kind of shirt/pant/shoe, will look best with what you are buying.. ask a female associate. She won't steer you wrong unless you are a prick to her... Good luck!!
As always JMO | |

| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 5/27/2008 8:34:28 PM | Thank you all... especially Laughinglibra, and my favorite.
As far as the handcuffs go, the girlfriend came with these black velcro cuff things when I got her. 2 for ankles and 2 for wrists... and a strap that ties them all together. Important thing was that it matched the black polo...
Seriously... I'm a simple man... just trying to learn what's in style.
I learned in the winter that my cut off's are out. Now the black polo... and now I'm not supposed to wear it in the summer either... I've been known to do some freaky things... but i will wear a salmon anything.... um... never.
Spandex.... never tried that... but I stopped wearing a speedo in the 7th grade... was too self conscious. (and skinny.)
I guess the solid color button down over a t shirt is out too... since I can't find the shirts anymore...
What are we supposed to wear? How about plain white oxford... maybe buy a stack of those and be set?

| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 5/27/2008 8:40:44 PM | How about a pair of chaps and nothing underneath......and a riding crop placed firmly in your right hand and a cat o nine tails in your left.......lol
In all seriousness.... what helps me stay abreast of the current fashion and trends is by reading current magazines. You don't have to BUY them, you can just casually look at them when you're at the check out line at the grocery store. Hopefully there's something in there that might be better suited to your tastes/style and don't be afraid to people watch too..... sometimes that helps as well. Better yet, go to the mall and take a look at clothing that are on display and try them on in your size and see how they look, etc.
JMHO:: Plain white oxfords and khakis are very sexy..... :D
Good luck! :) | |

| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 5/27/2008 10:52:00 PM | I personally like the polo shirts, and I LOVE the button down with a t-shirt underneath. Especially with a good pair of jeans. I am gonna say, please don't try salmon colored anything. I know it's a preference thing, but...blue or green or maybe orange are all better choices. | |

I see guys wearing them all of the time and in many stores I go into, they are big sellers. Not too sure who you were listening to when you heard that they are out but they are wrong or simply just have a completely different fashion sense.
I LOVE the button down with a t-shirt underneath. Especially with a good pair of jeans.
Definitely a good look! :-)

Posted: 5/28/2008 10:02:13 AM | | Purely as a means to entertain those around you - could I suggest those baggy gravity defying jeans that are worn around the buttocks. You know the ones, not just hanging low to reveal the 'George from Asda' 3 for a fiver boxer shorts, but I suspect have got tape keeping them up.

| If the Polo shirts are out, what the heck are we supposed to wear? Posted: 5/28/2008 10:16:16 AM | Polos are not out. Where'd you hear that? One of my favorite casual things to wear is a solid green polo with matching green Chuck Taylors (shoes) and a nice pair of jeans. I get compliments all the time... (though having the green chucks scores some big points) | |

No, no, no, you can't peg them and put them in the socks, it leaves an unsightly lump. Just fold them over at the bottom and pull your socks up over the fold to hold it in place. You might also try two different colors of socks (make sure they match your shirt) and slouch them so they both show.
