Have an event suggestion? I have a couple.

Anyone interested in Ziplines? How about the Sooke River Bluegrass Festival? A bonfire? Golf? canoeing or kayaking? Road rally (stole this suggestion!) Hikes? Picnics? Tennis? Badminton tourney at the beach? Anyone have a zany, whacky - something I haven't tried yet- suggestion? I challenge you!

I vote for jello whatevers and never tried mud except mudslides YUMMMY!

Love the ideas, and how about the tubing down the river in Duncan, bike rides along trails somewhere, a boating/fishing/picnic weekend or just sailing (there must be a few people with boats here), rent those Sumo Wrestler outfits and see if you can get up

See what you get when you ask for it!

What is the matter with me??! I didn't suspect I would have wise acre replies. Jello AND mud - groan. Thanks for saving this thread two.

Keep brainstorming all ideas and then we'll start discussing them.

How about a whacky golf tournament ...

How about "Killer" frisbee? Lots of people in a circle & lots of frisbees. Lots of fun. Ha! Ziplines? You bet.

There are soooo many outdoor music events & festivals in Victoria! I think it would be cool to arrange to meet as a group at some of them (or even all of them! ) . The May 29th Monday mag lists many of them. There's Ceilidh in the Park, Afro-Caribbean festival, Tall Ships, Festival Mexicano, Ska Festival, Gorge on Art, Moss St Paint-in (that usually includes a dance at the Gallery in the evening), Luminara, Canada Day, the Electronic Music Festival, Symphony Splash (and the BC 150 celebrations the same weekend), Tango Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Blues Bash, not to mention the concerts every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Cameron Bandshell and the Centennial Square music events (including Dancing in the Square Tuesdays in July & August). The Centennial Square and Cameron Bandshell schedules aren't up at the City of Victoria site yet but should be soon. The info for the rest is in the Arts & Culture guide that you can get at the City of Victoria site and around town.

This is a happenin' town in the summer - plenty of places & occasions for fishies to get together and have fun, I'm thinking. Best thing is for many of them you don't need transportation or tents - just some sunscreen and your water bottle

How's that for a couple of ideas?

Might I suggest a Scavenger Hunt ... ?

Or maybe a pitch and putt ...Mt Doug ... there is a nine hole at Metchosin ..

Mini Golf ... can be fun ... and relatively inexpensive ...?

There is frisbee golf at Juan de Fuca also ..

There is hiking up Mt Finnalyson .. or a hike around Thetis Lake ...

Beeach Volley Ball at the Sticky Wicket ..

There is a group campsite at Goldstream ..

anything else .. ?

I like the hikes, ziplines, canoeing, bonfire, and golf ideas mentioned. Also volleyball, but at a beach or grassy area, rather than Sticky Wicket so we could do our own thing re: food, drinks, etc.

I wonder if I'm allowed to post yet. I am thinking a scavenger amazing race thing set in downtown victoria, walkable, with partners drawn from a hat, and changing partners at different points, prizes donated (please someone else find the donations ha ha) and of course a pub or coffee shop afterward. Or...I could play matchmaker.

Debra... I'll gladly help you with a Scavenger Hunt! Done them for different age levels through my church. Teens would do a Mall Hunt, while Young Adults would be on the road, starting from some place like Oak Bay Marina, then told to drive up Beach Drive through the Uplands until they've passed 4 houses with the number 7 in it's address. There's no way to tell how far you'll have to go. But if you miss one, or lose count, you're toast! So you need a really good navigator!!!

Could be done for walking around, like....
1) How many lights are in the pond of Centennial Square?
2) What is the Family Rate to Miniature World?
3) What is the Email address to the A Channel?
4) Who is the Manager of the Earl's Restaurant?
5) What is the smallest store in Market Square?

O.K...so if you use vehicles it's really a Car Rally....if you did it downtown, you could make it a Pub Crawl? or maybe a combination Pub Crawl and your Scavenger Hunt idea with everyone walking is FABULOUS! You can have lots of fun by throwing in a few riddles, etc.. The ideas are already forming in my mind....

I used to do Car Rally Scavenger Hunts years ago but they are a LOT more work. I would help you for SURE on a walking one kiddo! It would be a blast. Main thing is to get it planned and set up BEFORE you post it and then you can supply people with info, like how long it should take and where we'll end up, yadda, yadda, yadda!

I used to even tell people that didn't want to do the actual hunting to drop by afterwards wherever we landed for the social part.

Just let me know if I can help and yes, we will have to dig up some prizes...funny or otherwise. I"m sure I can donate one myself since I do feel this is GREAT idea!

Great idea how about as an entrance fee - a prize per person who wants to participate worth no more than $5 or $10 (that way everyone gives). If they give you a prize at the beginning of the hunt, they get the first "hint" or "location". Can we have a couple of masseusses at the end as incentive? A woman for the guys, a man for the ladies .... huh, huh...can we...can we?

We can't charge an entrance fee/prize but we can ask people to bring something for sure. Whoever is interested in getting together to help plan this, please message me and we'll set a date.

So what do we have? Ziplines in Sooke will be posted soon -- plan is for July 20. Scavenger hunt a Sat in September TBA. Talk of golfing of some sort in August?

Lots of weekends that I'm not available - everyone is free to host their own party or activity. Free advice here on how to do it! We certainly had some great suggestions and lots of interest in camping.

Anyone interested in trying dragonboating? I can arrange that one.

I have checked my calendar and tried and tried to figure out how I can provide Sunbeam with the one thing she asked of me but must confess I am completely unable to commit to my availability on a date so far in advance. Work, community and family commitments (yeah, I know it should be family first but that will have to wait until November) have to come before social activities and I won't know what is coming down the pike for some time.

The best date for me would be Saturday Sept 13 but I cannot guarantee that I will be there. I don't agree that you need someone 'well-known' (could that be a bad thing on here?) to host the event - people come out to whatever they are interested in. I CAN co-host, help organize, send out invites, give advice on posting the event, help line people up etc. and give a commitment the week of, on whether I can participate further or not.

PS: The road rally idea came from Dave-oh. The scavenger hunt idea came from Sunbeam.

Golf? The magic word! A POF tourney - come newbies, come all. Team a couple of newbies with the well clubbed ones...good times!

I'm agreeing with that Prairie Sailor dude's idea... a golf tourney would be fun. Even those that have never golfed might toy with the idea of expanding their horizons.

See ya on the 9th for a pint.
