Should Obama choose a woman to run as VP?
Posted: 5/29/2008 7:17:25 PM
I saw some reports discussing the possibility that Obama could choose a woman to run as VP. Some names mentioned are the governors of the states of Kansas, Missouri, and Arizona.

I think that it would be a very good idea, but I am not sure that having Hillary on the ticket would be the best idea, although I think that it is very important to unite the party to have the best chance against McCain.

What do you think about the option of having a woman as the VP candidate, and who could be the best running mate for Obama?

Well I don't think Hillary would be that great of a choice, honestly. I think the two of them are both quite liberal and the republicans would be frothing at the mouth to paint them as too far left.

I think some people are suggesting he choose another woman, a governor I believe, but I can't remember her name right now. Regardless, I don't think that would be a great idea. That would be a slap in the face for Hillary, and he's above that.

I would like to see him pick Jim Webb or John Edwards.

I think.... no... I ...know.... if a woman is chosen simply based on the fact that she is a 'woman'...then, PCness... is, without a doubt, alive and well in the US. I don't think the average... center Conservative (which is a large part of the voting USA) will fall for it though.

Sure I think it would be a great political decision.
i am in Mich and we have a last term governer Jennifer grandholm that would be fairly decent.
She has Good people skills and very easy to talk with good temperment, honest good work history and not harsh like hillary
I think A male/ female ticket would be a good thing and hopefully bring the country together for a change.

If he can find the right candidate ?

Sure.

What's needed on the ticket is someone that helps to balance out areas, and a woman could certainly do that quite well.

America needs the best people in power, and that certainly doesn't preclude a woman - or anyone else.

What do you think about the option of having a woman as the VP candidate ...
Is that something new this year? You mean the "OPTION of having a woman as the VP Candidate was not always there?

That would be like asking "What do you think about the option of having a black man as the Presidential candidate?" OR "What about the option of having a gay as the Presidential candidate?"

Weren't those options always there?

... who could be the best running mate for Obama?
I did not know he was the Democratic candidate.

If he should become the Democratic candidate ... I know a lot of Democrats that will not be voting for him if Clinton is not his running mate.

Since this is being turned into a "RACE" race ... why not make it a "GENDER / RACE" race too?

Sorry Excalibur, but I'm in MI too and I do not think this would be a good idea. lol
For one thing, Jennifer is a Canadian. You can't be president if you are not a natural born citizen, and you know...there is that second in line issue to think of. For another thing, while I don't really fault her too much for what she's done, many people here hate her record. And last but not least, I think any mention of MI in this election would be laughed out of the arena. She is one of the decision makers in the primary, is she not? I think I have to say with 100% certainty that Jen's out. Good lookin' out for her though. lol

Nope...
Women rarely vote for women.
This is demonstrated by the lack of female politicians.

A woman wouldn't garner him any more votes than any other running mate,IMHO.

There will only be true equality when people vote for the best candidate regardless of race or gender. When a black woman votes for a Jewish man or an Asian man votes for a white woman because they are the best candidate, then you can say Americans have made real progress.

David Duke would balance the obama's ticket out or maybe an arcade attendent to make sure that all that "change" could be could be handled, rolled and deposited on a timely basis.

I think Obama should pick the person whom he thinks he can work most effectively with, can count on for giving him good advice and would be a candidate that has appeal to voters, and it should be in that order. Gender should not even play a part in it.

The govenor of Arizona is being tossed around quite a bit. I've had a chance to look at a little background on her and she might not be a bad choice !! Tough when it comes to law and order and seems to have the good will and respect of a lot of the people in her state.

After what happened in the DNC meeting last Saturday, and taking into account that is looking more and more like Obama will be the nominee, I think that we should be racking our collective brain to come up with a workable solution. After all, in order for Obama to win, he will need a united Democratic party. The question is very valid now.
Another question that we would like to consider is the kind of input that Hillary should have when reaching a decision about the VP.

anyone looking at the democratic national committee controversy has to laugh. this is how they manage things? how in the hell would they ever be able to manage the country? this is what we have to look forward to?

i guess maxine waters would be the perfect running mate, since she is a flaming communist representing inner city Los Angeles.

Howver bad they may be they'll be an improvement over the nitwits we have now.

A woman won't be on the ticket. He'll need more guy cred so I'd look for a southern governor or senator and probably a veteran.

Simple as this, if any woman should be Obama's VP choice, it should be (IMO) his wife. Who's to say the two can't run together?

I have returned to having respect for Hillary Clinton, she has really impressed me the past couple of months. She can't be VP though, for the same reason the super delegates have shyed away from her......she is damaged goods. Oooops, I know someone who will drill me for saying that.........she simply has too much baggage in the form of Bill, scandals......did I mention Bill?

Obama needs to keep Hillary happy though, because her support is invaluable to him towards winning in November. He should offer her whatever she chooses. I think she would look good seeing Condoleezza Rice out the door.

I agree with a few of you above, Jim Webb is looking like a very good choice, with good balance to the ticket with his military experience. Here's a link to the recent Parade magazine article that he wrote:

^ ^ ^ ^

That's the problem with the Democratic Party. The Media does it's thinking, spreads it's thoughts in all it's liberal outlets (CNN, CBS, MSNBC, New York Times, etc) and the little guys begin to think out of ignorance. Simply because they have heard it repeatedly in the news. The end result are losers like Kerry, Edwards, Gore, Mcgovern, Dukakis, Mondale, Ferraro, Mrs. Clinton and now Obama. Democrats will loose the Presidential election by a landslide. Why not make it fun for everyone and do think some more by suggesting Obama choose a homosexual like Barney Frank to run as VP? It's the party's most holiest of mantras. Same difference as having a woman to run as VP. Their latest mantra since 2000 has been “We must count every vote and every vote must count”. In fact, some votes might need to be counted two or three times, if that’s what it takes for a Democrat to win. In both Florida and Michigan, truckloads of votes, cast by the idealistic party faithful, will be thrown into the garbage can. The grand hypocrisy.
Besides, the governors of Kansas, Missouri, and Arizona will not accept ( think: they are not from liberal states) and the party has never been a unified party.

That certainly is a fact! And a shameful one at that. News outlets such as MSNBC and NBC, and FOX in particular, (but others too), have far far too much power over the masses. Far more power than their sense of responsibility. Many people don't even realize such organizations present such a tainted and biased picture of reality.

I doubt he will choose Hillary. He is campainging on change. Having someone like Hillary on the ticket would send the exact opposite message he is campaining on.
