| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 5/30/2008 2:35:52 AM | Sorry to hear that you are going through this. I have suffered panic attacks and deal with anxiety on a daily basis. I've learned to cope by exercising, deep breathing through the anxious feeling and lately I started doing yoga.
I have a few friends that deal with anxiety as well. I wouldn't have a problem dating someone that had the same issues.
Have you done any councelling? Some groups that deal with anxiety will actually bring on a panic attack and teach you how to work through it.

| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 5/30/2008 5:17:17 AM | Diet, sunlight exposure and meditation is the key. Get some sunlight people who are usually depressed andhave panic attacks usually don't go outside much. Write a food diary and how you feel at what times, sugars, bad facts, coffee, tea, chocolate, etc can make it worse. Go on alkaline diet with healthy fats(coconut oil, olive oil and flax oil). Alkaline diet meaning mostly vegetables and fruits, grains and meats i moderation. I suggest you take a PH test strips, you can buy them at local health food store, you want a PH around 7.2 to 7.4. I bet your PH is less than 7 probably 5.5 to 6.5 range.
Take up meditation it can calm you. http://www.falundafa.org/bul/audio-video/audiovideo_video.html http://www.alkalizeforhealth.net/salivaphtest.htm

| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 5/30/2008 6:42:41 AM | My totally amateur view is that anxiety/panic problems fit into this:
http://www.physorg.com/news131293556.html
300 depressed Mexican-Americans in Los Angeles. How many do you think of that demographic are seriously overweight/obese and totally inactive? Diets pro-inflammaotry omega-6 corn products (tortillas, taco shells, tamales, and, corn oil)?
http://www.naturalnews.com/z022860.html
Amazing, huh? Inflammation and the immune system involved in psychological problems? Lupus (auto-immune, inflammatory ) can cause psychiatric disorders. Inflammation, AGAIN!, the underlying, and untreated, Suspect Numero Uno.
Bad diet (dead food-like substances, acidic, pro-inflammatory, high glycemic, processed carbs, industrial meat/dairy unbalanced towards pro-inflammatory omega-6,9, excess weight, aka Standard American Diet),
and
no exercise.
Cue broken record: "Good diet and daily vigorous exercise fix damn near just about everything."
If you're tempted, anti-depressants are a $cam:

I absolutely agree. | |

| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 5/30/2008 8:36:49 AM | | If you pass out, and have to be taken to a hospital by ambulance, I think these are more than just "minor" panic attacks. | |
|
| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 5/31/2008 9:34:06 PM | i used to have serious panic attacks...to the point i thought i was going to die and sometimes i thought i was going crazy...
if it's bad, see your doctor...i hate taking medications tho.
try meditation..it might be a weird thought but it'll help..and diet and excersize will help alot...stay away from alcohol!

| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 6/1/2008 12:24:51 PM | I used to have them when I was worried about job security on a daily basis.
That was a few years ago. Though I was also going to the gym daily then, a better outlook on life in general has stopped any attacks.
I never took any medication for it.
And yes, I'd date someone if he had it, but to continue dating him, he has to want to seek counselling/treatment/find out the source of his attacks & get better if possible.
Take care! | |

| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 6/1/2008 2:58:51 PM | I had a panic attack one time, about twelve years ago. I went to the hospital, but by the time someone could see me, it went away. I worried that it might happen again, but it never did.
Do yours reoccur? | |

| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 6/1/2008 4:07:37 PM | | My bf gets them once in awhile... he feels very nauseas and sick and he can't move around much or even function until it passes which can take awhile. But hey, there's worse things out there than bad nerves. | |

| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 6/1/2008 5:11:34 PM | Anxiety yes. When I have to act professional, I get pretty damn nervous and sweaty, etc.
I spoke to my doctor a few years back about anger manegment issues I was having at a shitty job I had. He put me on some meds and they really worked.
I no longer tripped out at work and I didn't have the same physical symptoms of anxiety issues (ie: tensed up, sweating, making fists, etc).
I would speak to your doctor about getting meds...some call them anti-depressents, others anxiety pills, etc...
The one pill is used for several symptoms as I understand it.
One side effect, is that you'll get drunk a lot faster than normal. What would normally take me a dozen drinks to get a buzz on, 7 or so would have seeing double. Apparently booze will not counter the effects of the meds, so no worries there.
Some people get upset stomachs, and other typical medication symnptoms...I didn't so I can't complainl.

| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 6/4/2008 1:47:32 PM | | I have panic attacks, and I've learnt to calm myself down. The thing that works the best for me is watching a clock with a minuite hand. For some reason my panic attacks never last more than about 15-20 minuites at their peak, so as soon as I start feeling massive anxiety and I start to go into panic mode I just stop...calm myself down..and sorta keep my eye on the clock...the reassurance that after the clock reaches 15 or 20 minuites helps me. I know it will be over if i just ride it out. | |
|
| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 6/4/2008 5:17:51 PM | | I have had them off and on for the past 12 years. I have been on and off medications to try to control them, but find that now, I can calm myself down. These are very common, when I first started suffering them, I truly thought I was the only person in the world going through this, thought I was losing my freakin mind. I do agree that excercise is great for this, but, honestly, I hate excercise lol. Hang in there OP, you can not die from a panic attack (you just feel like you are going to) | |
|
| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 6/20/2008 10:42:28 PM | I went through a phase of these, due to stress or a mis-firing nerve that controls the heart beat. I don't get them as often now because I watch what I eat (tyramine) and try to watch my stress level.
They scare the life out of me. Passing out at the wheel was the worst yet.
I would date me. | |

| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 6/21/2008 1:39:13 AM | I knew a woman who was getting panic attacks - come to find out she had an intestinal yeast infection
She went on a diet for it and lost a lot of weight

| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 6/21/2008 11:54:32 PM | Anxiety is hell. I know from personal experience. I had my first attack at 10. The problem with them is that you fear the next one, which makes sure that you WILL have a next one.
The last 8 months have been awful for me, but I've finally come through it. Here's what I've done to help: 1.) I downloaded some meditation/relaxation stuff onto my iPod. When I go to bed, I listen to one of the pieces and I usually fall asleep pretty quickly. Poor sleep habits are very bad for someone with anxiety. Unfortunately, anxiety can make you sleep poorly, but do whatever you can to help yourself sleep better. 2.) Diet. I am overweight so I can stand to lose weight anyway, but I know that my diet has really made my anxiety worse. Plan to cut out sugar. Still eat carbohydrates, of course, but eat only natural carbs. Don't eat anything processed. No white rice, no white flour, no white sugar. 3.) Move. I was quite sedentary and that really contributed to the anxiety. I needed a way to rid myself of the "anxious energy" that I had. I have been through a very stressful time the last 8 months and I wasn't dealing with things. I was holding it all in and it was coming out in the form of anxiety. I MADE myself be more active. I'm not running marathons, but I try to fit in at least 30 minutes of activity EVERY DAY. 4.) Talk to someone. I feel bad for men because a lot of people think men are supposed to be strong and never show their feelings. If you have a close friend, male or female, that you can talk to, do it. If you can talk to a counsellor, do it. Talk to your family doctor. Try and avoid medications, but look into taking Vitamin B and perhaps a multivitamin. 5.) Don't allow yourself to be bored. Yes, you need "down time", but don't allow yourself to ever just sit and think about anxiety. Thinking is anxiety's best friend.
I hope I gave you some help. Feel free to mail me if you want to ask me anything or just have someone to talk to.
Take care. L. | |

| minor anxiety/panic attacks Posted: 6/22/2008 6:28:24 PM | Canadian Beef: I'm wagging my finger at you, young man! You shouldn't be drinking with anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medications. I won't lie, I'll have a glass of wine or one beer every so often (about once per month, if that), but you shouldn't be advising someone not to worry about mixing booze and pills. If you are that concerned about missing out on drinking, maybe look into that as a source of your issues, as well. | |
