i've never had more than a hard drive failure from an ipod, and thats from dropping it. their warranty covered it and i got a new one. i've got to get another one soon though, cause the warranty is running out. i guess i'll be dropping it again.

The only issue I ever had was my iPod froze when I connected it to my Mac (ie stuck on DO NOT DISCONNECT logo). If anyone gets t his from time to time, just disconnect it.... hold the middle button and MENU for a few seconds until it shuts off.

Then turn it back on and you're good to go.

They are all pretty standard, try a factory restore if that doesn't work then you need to have it serviced here's the specific trouble shooting links for each of the problems:

2: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1373
