| I'd do anything final Posted: 5/31/2008 3:27:11 AM | Right I am sure this thread will get loads of I don't watch that pile of c%&p, but for those that do watch it, who out of the remaining 3 do you think will/deserves to win?
For me I have to say Jodie, I said right at start of the show that she should win it, and it's great to see her in the final.... what do others think??
|
| I'd do anything final Posted: 5/31/2008 3:29:39 AM | | Never seen it, but I suspect if I did I would be screaming at the television for a small natural disaster like a meteor strike or a volcano to erupt on the stage. | |
|
| I'd do anything final Posted: 5/31/2008 3:41:57 AM | Well obviously I am way better than any of them and had I realised the auditions were happening I would be in the final winning it.
Of the three left I would also say Jodie, I just think she suits the part. I think Jessie just isn't ready, needs a little refinement and training and the other girl, can't remember her name, is a little too young and hasn't seen enough life yet for the part.
|
| I'd do anything final Posted: 5/31/2008 3:52:14 AM | | OP I've never heard of it, but if you explain a little about it, I may decide to give it a viewing and make up my own mind. | |

| I'd do anything final Posted: 5/31/2008 3:58:05 AM | it's the same format as joesph and the one where andrew lloyd webber was looking for maria (although i wasn't living in this country when that aired) It is on the BBC saturday evenings (times vary cause of course it's the beeb) the host is the oh so camp but still bloody funny graham norton, the judges are john barrowman (Torchwood) Andrew Lloyd webber (done a couple of musicals..nothing to shout about) denise van olten and barry humphreys (who apparently played fagin a couple of times) Anyway they are looking for the next nancy (graham norton prehaps) to star in a new stage show of oliver, has been running for about 6 weeks or something, and it is down to the final three, of course on the other side probably at the same time due to rating wars is the final of britains got talent...with the judges piers morgan (why isn't there a smiley that shoots bullets) Simon Cowell (see above smiley) and that wonderful talent that is amanda something - you know the vicious one who treated les dennis like a piece of poo. | |

| I'd do anything final Posted: 5/31/2008 4:01:48 AM | Oliver Twist is one of my favourite musical productions, so I've followed this closely. Now it's been announced that Rowan Atkinson is to play Fagin I think this will definitely be top of my list to see in the West End at the end of the year! Can't wait to see who's been cast as Bill Sykes.
As for Nancy, I think there has to be some kind of vulnerability to the character; rememer she is murdered by Bill Sykes and is "in love" with him to the bitter end. I personally feel, Jodie is too "hard" to show that soft, loving side to her character. Jessie, doesn't cut it with me so the only one left is Samantha.
Really, it should have been Rachel who was voted off last week. Anyway, it's still a good laugh, anything with Graham Norton usually is.

| I'd do anything final Posted: 5/31/2008 4:09:57 AM | | Oh, it sounds quite interesting. Think perhaps I'll give it a go and see what I've been missing. | |

|
| I'd do anything final Posted: 5/31/2008 10:43:03 AM | I like the fact Jodie is still in - she has the most life experience to convey those emotions, I don't know whether she has or not (I've only watched the last two episodes) -I think Samantha is a bit too young but very good and I quite like Jessie - but she does need some coaching - the thing is this stage production doesn't go out till the end of the year so they do have time to iron out those niggles in Jessie, which Andrew Lloyd Webber has said.
Basically I don't know who I want to win.

| I'd do anything final Posted: 5/31/2008 2:18:45 PM | I wanted Jodie to win but thought Jessie gave a fantastic performance this evening, her 'As long as he needs me' was amazing
We did vote twice for Jodie though (my son made me do it)
|
| I'd do anything final Posted: 5/31/2008 2:26:01 PM | At last someone who watches and follows the, 'I'd do Anything' show.
Well I think the best person for Nancy has already been voted out, that was Rachel. Out of the three ladies left competing I would have to favour Jodie for the leading lady role of Nancy.
Though secretly that Graham Norton is a perfect Nancy, and could take the starring role in any musical...come to think of it old Lloyd Webber himself looks the perfect Nancy as well.
I just love that show, it has everything; good music, good songs, great singing, great costumes and a few humourous witty gays for good measure.
So sad it's over - how will I spend my Saturday and Sunday nights...

| I'd do anything final Posted: 6/1/2008 6:28:23 AM | | was so chuffed that jodie won, thought that she were right for the part right from the original auditions, jessie and sam were just not ready for such a role as nancy, jodie had seen more of life and was impressed by her 8 stone weight loss, would definitely go to see the show when it starts, does anyone know yet what theatre in the west end it will be on at? | |
|

anyone know yet what theatre Why not look up Cameron Mackintosh on 'tinternet?
Booking now: PERFORMANCES FROM 12th DECEMBER 2008
Cameron Mackintosh presents his triumphant new staging of Lionel Bart's masterpiece Oliver! at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, which was last seen at the Palladium in 1994. The new production at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane promises to be even more spectacular than ever before, starring Rowan Atkinson as Fagin, Jodie Prenger (winner of the BBC's I'd Do Anything) and a cast and orchestra of over one hundred.
Mind you, I personally thought the result was disastrous.
Everybody said they wanted to redefine the role of Nancy, and what did we get? The "safe" choice. I think Mackintosh and Webber over-stated their hand during the prgramme, which may well have scuppered Jessie's chances.
Why do I think it was the wrong choice? D1ckens' Nancy was a young girl, young enough to be mistaken for Oliver's sister. CD's Nancy says she started at the thieving at half of Oliver's age 12 years before, which would make her about 16 or 17, as it was Oliver's 9th birthday when (and why) he asked for "more". Jodie is too old.
And how do you cast a Bill Sykes that could possibly terrify Jodie into submission? (She may have loved him, but she was also very frightened of crossing him. A lot of the things Nancy did at Bill's behest were done from fear, even though she strongly disagreed with them.) I can't think of a current actor with that amount of menace.
Still I reckon Jessie is probably destined for Nancy in a touring version, much as the Josephs did. That's the version I would love to see.

| I'd do anything final Posted: 6/1/2008 7:32:44 AM | Jodie was the wrong choice, in my opinion.
I think it's important to understand the character of Nancy and not just "like" a singer. I agree, Jodie is very personable, friendly and lovely. However, the character of "Nancy" in Charles****ns' Oliver Twist, is vulnerable. Jodie certainly does NOT come across as vulnerable. She appears assertive and forthright. I can't imagine her taking a beating from anyone (Bill Sykes). I think she'd give him a right thrashing lol !
Of the two left, it should have been Jessie. With a 6 month run up to the production, I think she would have been groomed into the role. She did actually have a total rawness (she was aware of this) which actually would have been perfect for a different kind of "Nancy".
BBC4 are actually re-running the dramatisation of Oliver Twist, for anyone interested in getting a feel of the story, who doesn't already know :0)

| I'd do anything final Posted: 6/1/2008 9:33:52 AM | couldn't disagree more with the above posters, Jodie was always the correct choice to play Nancy, she has more talent in her left arm than Jessie has full stop....I don't think Jessie would be able to sing anything other than a ballad for a start, but basically it was fantasic to see someone who isn't young and pretty with no flesh on her bones. Jessie also has a tendacy to raise the corner of her mouth and that was just plain annoying, plus she couldn't get that****ey accent down and that must be key to the role, and lets be honest she did have long enough to try.... | |
