People like to date local to their own area's as they don't like long distance which is fine, and makes sense, but what if you had tasted something different and now won't / can't settle for anything less.
It can get in the way and in my case has stopped alot of possible opportunities, maybe this is just a defence mechanism am not sure...
Anyone else feel this way?
Taste of something different meaning people from a distance away.. Outside Europe..

Edit - Ty Mo :) and lol@the should be obvious reason to delete , how sad some people are

I dont see anything wrong with it. I have thought about it myself but, its a very complex thing to do. For one thing it can get expensive, and just not easy to do. I think if you connect with someone though and one of you is willing to relocate, I say go for it. They say theres someone for everyone right? Maybe yours is outside Europe.

Taste of something different meaning people from a distance away..

ummm, how does canada sound??? i've made many online friends (men and women) in here from up north, i want so bad to go visit them but it's not in my budget right now. one of my female friends (and her future hubby) invited me to their wedding (in canada where they live), invited me to stay as long as i like and 2 other (male) friends of mine offered to be my escort. another female friend of mine offered a place for me to stay so i can attend an event in canada. damnit! i can't wait until this lawsuit is done and over with.....i wanna go up north to see all of them. oh, some of my northern friends are trying to talk me into moving to canada (i love the snow )

orion woman???? ummm, i only posted with regards to your thread. i live stateside in pennsylvania, made plenty of friends in canada, that's what i was talking about with regards to taste of something different. there are a lot of men within a 50 mile radius that thinks a drive consisting of more than 10-15 is entirely out of the question let alone driving more than half an hour to meet someone. i've had quite a few offers from my male friends from up north and even further than canada (2 from alaska). it's too bad that none of those men would like to come stateside for a visit. with my luck, come time i'm ready to visit them they're gonna be with someone else.

To me getting to know someone means actually dating and seeing them in person adn in different situations, so I''m not fond of long distance for that reason.

I guess it's whatever works for someone. I've heard of people getting together from different parts of the world.

Why do you prefer American men over European men?

The long term relationship I had with a European man didn't work out, but had nothing whatsoever to do with where he lived. I'm not willing to judge all men from other countries based on the experience I had with only one of them, whether that experience would have been good or bad. It didn't work out because we weren't compatible, not because he's European. The other Europeans I met while I was there were all wonderful people. You must just be meeting the wrong ones.

I've had a few failed relationships with American men too, but refuse to judge all by the experiences I've had with a few. However, after trying the long distance thing for almost two years, closer to home works much better for me. I found the man I intend to spend the rest of my life with right here in my own neighborhood. He's definitely different from any man I've ever known (and I didn't even have to leave my country for that "taste of something different") and now I could never settle for less. Thank goodness I won't have to.

Hello Kneehigh66

I can understand where you are coming from. I travel all over the world in my business and while I have found people all over the world to be the same when it comes to what is important to them (family and friends) the cultural expectations are totally different. I don't even think it has to do with different looks/appearances so much as experiencing cultural mores that are different from the everyday "same ole thing".

To those european and asian women that "like North American men" thank you, but I can assure you that you will run into as many neandrathrals in the US as other places. There are good and bad everywhere. It seems like the grass is always greener in someone else's yard. It really isn't greener...it is just a different type of grass.
