Bars for 30+ people

Hey there everyone. I recently moved to Halifax and was wondering what a good bar would be to meet people 30+. I'm not much one for techno music blasting in my ears ( I know I know...."gramps") and would like to go to a bar with some atmosphere and people to get to know.

Sorry Sunnie- it will never happen
All us Dartmouth people cross the bridge, but for the most part the Halifax people won't come over here- esp. all the way to Burnside.
Perhaps for small events- like the recent Karaoke , but not for big events

I think if someone opened an exclusive club for people 30 and over they would make a killing.
It is what the area needs. Every other club is filled to the brim with babies so the youngings couldn't complain too much.
Although in the society we now find ourselves in, someone would complain, go to the media, and the place would be shut down with the first week of business.

Just open a bar and only play good decent music...stuff like rock and roll. That'll keep the youngins away.

Not that I frequent the bars much at all, but the Economy Shoeshop (Argyle St.) has a variety of patrons... I think a lot of 30+ as well as 40+ and up and up. :-) Stayner's (by the ferry terminal, Halifax side) and the Triangle (Bedford Row, Hfx) also seem to have more people in our age group, and Stayner's has good entertainment (according to billboard... blues, etc.). I avoid most bars due to the loud, "what-they-call-music" that just hurts my ears, but the Shoeshop just has the loud drone of chit-chat and some piped-in stuff... it's do-able. Stayner's is smaller, but a nice spot... great food too, and wonderful staff... one of the few places that I always have to comment to the staff about how fast and efficient and friendly they are... it's noticeable! Just a few ideas...

Before POF , the only bar I would go to was "Boomer's". Always played a great variety of music , and not man young un's .. was a good mix of ages , with majority being my age(30's) or older. I not sure what it like now , though would love to go again sometime ..

I used to like Boomer's.
I loved the fact that they played a lot of Disco music therefore catering to the older crowd. But now I find they play a lot of hip hop, there are enough bars that cater to the young.

This probably isn't really relevant to the thread, but I couldn't find the thread (I thought there was one) about locations for POF events. I just came back from a staff cruise on the Harbour Queen, and it was a lot of fun! That would be a good idea for a POF event, wouldn't it? There's entertainment... tonight was two guys with guitars (Brian and Dave or something?) and they were excellent!! They take requests and they seem to know every song lyric out there... very good! There's a bar... some people (maybe the drunker ones) were dancing... beautiful night for a cruise up to Bedford and back past McNab's Island... it was over two hours' long. Anyway, thought I'd pass it along as a possible POF event venue, though I guess if someone isn't having a great time, it's a little harder than usual to leave... unless you're a great swimmer! ;-)

Actually there has already been 2 Harbour Cruises as events. They'd be listed in the events thread.

I go to the Newfoundland club quite often on Friday nights and the music is good and not too loud you can actually talk to someone without yelling. There seems to be a different crowd there each time we go. It is 6.00 to get in and 4.00 for a beer. The dance floor is a nice size as well. Most times it is a good time.

The Old Triangle is a great place fridays starting at about 4pm. The after work crowd goes in and its usually full until about 8pm when the changeover starts for the nighttime crowd. The music is good and the crowd is mostly 30+.
Has anyone down in the Sydney ever thought about having a POF event during Action Week? (Aug 2-10)

Hey this sounds interesting and close enough to go. Who will be hosting this event?

I was at a Dinner and Dance and the money went to a non profit orgnization in the area. It was an event for St. Patrick's day. It was at the Spryfield Lions Club.

Not a soul under 30 and a fun bunch. The music was from the 50's to the 80's. It was the best time I had in about 5 years, really nice crowd and drinks were cheap. The cost was $10.00 and you had your choice of chili or seafood chowder, a roll, and either Carrot Cake or Chocolate Cupcakes and tea or coffee. Food was excellent and the drinks were $4.00 for a Beer and $4.25 for hard liquor. All proceeds went to charity.

It really was a good crowd and the music was old country, rock and roll, Rythm and blues and some jazz. The DJ had a great selection and had every song that people requested because you could e-mail you song request prior to the dance.

Was really fun and I hear they are doing another one in the Fall. Will keep you posted if you are interested.

Who will be hosting this event?

Actually, this isn't about an event. It's about someone inquiring about bars where one could go that has an over 30 crowd.

POF events can't involve charities.

Are there bars in Halifax that hold fewer than 30?
