| Australia! Posted: 6/2/2008 5:22:11 AM | Alright Everyone!
I'm planning on making a trip to Australia. I was originally planning on going mid-october, but it looks like I've got a conflict and so I'm now planning late september.
I've heard the East Coast is the place to go, and I definately want to check out all the night hot spots. I LOVE trance and would love to see some live shows. Can anyone recommend any venues?
Also, I'd like to do some outdoor stuff while I'm there. I'm not scuba certified, but I've done my PADI open water dive and would very much like to do some scuba while there. I also like to see what else Australia's got to offer. Also, are there any unique foods I should try?
As far as logisticas, I'm looking in to the YHA as suggested in the AU thread. Anyone else have any ideas? I'll have 18 days to soak everything in!!!
Thanks! Benson | |

| Australia! Posted: 6/5/2008 1:48:39 AM | | I was there last year. Fly into Sydney and head north after checking out Sydney. The trains are great .Check out the Gold Coast. Prawly won't have much time after that. You could fly out of Brisbane or go back to Sydney. | |

Melbourne (600 miles south of sydney) would be the cultural capital, though you will get some good shows in Sydney. Brisbane (600 miles north of Sydney) has world class diving, they is an abundance of ship wrecks and some beautiful reef all in the idilic backdrop of Moreton and Stradbroke Islands. Check out diveoz.com.au for dive shops and charters in Brisbane. I would recommend a live aboard boat from friday night till sunday night for about $390 AU. You will get about 8 dives in and all meals for that price. Bargain!
As someone mentioned, the trains are cheap as are the plane flights. There are 3 main domestic airlines. they are www.jetstar.com.au virginblue.com.au and qantas.com.au
Don't forget Australia is one really big place. plan in advance.
The Far North is worth a look for rainforest and the like.. cheers,

| Australia! Posted: 6/13/2008 1:30:35 AM | Surfers Paradise, Sydney, and some Brisbane diving sound fantastic. I've got to fly in and out of the same place due to some travel constraints. Where would be the best place to go in/out of? Also, which is easier between plane and train? Is one less of a hassle? I know flying in the states is a pain.

| Australia! Posted: 6/14/2008 11:46:08 AM | I think you'll find the return flight to Sydney cheaper than Brisbane. Check Hawaiian Air and Jet Star. Qantas usually costs more. From the airport to the train I'm not sure as I had friends driving me to the conections but I'm sure they have made it convienient. Just follow and ask. You'll know who is willing to help. I had ridden on the train, car, bus, ferry and cab within the first 2 days. The cabs sometimes aren't allowed to stop in certain spots in the big city so you have to call them instead of hailing. What I would do is get yourself and your luggage into a cab right out of the airport. Get the prices to where your going. only about $30 into Sydney, and get the contact numbers written down. It's a whole network I don't think you call a certain cab company. The next thing you might want to do is get a 1 month temporary mobile phone unless your mobile provider has a plan and exposure there. | |

I just checked the exchange rates between AUS and USD. It sounds like its about even. Is this true?
