I'm sorry.....why?

They're cheaper, they last longer- other than demanding the status quo stay the status quo even if it causes massive debt, I see no real purpose for this.....

Oh, is that what this is? Another weak desire to keep the word "God" on American money?

weird......I honestly don't get it......

Moreso, upon reading the snopes, why aren't people outraged by the word "Liberty" missing? Are you outraged if your coins fail to recognize God, claiming the Government is "phasing out God", but are okay with them failing to recognize liberty? Using the same logic, the Government would then be phasing out Liberty!

I'm familiar with snopes.com, who perform a valuable service letting the air out of hysterical nonsense. But what is this "god" of which you speak? What do you trust in it to do? Is that trust worth a dollar? Even a Sacajawea dollar?

And what on earth were you doing in a Post Office?

Cheers!

Canadians found a dollar coin quite usefull. Vending machines and tolls...using a dollar coin rather than needing a pocketful of change.
Sure, they last longer, therefore making it cheaper on the gov't to produce.
Easy way to save too....who really misses tossing a coin in a bank or jar? After a bit...woo-hoo....
I haven't seen these coins...but who really cares what is on them? It sn't as if they have some president mooning the public!
Also...has anyone else ever noticed that countries whose economy is...well...not all the best, always seem to have a coin as their "monetary unit"? The dollar used to be a bill...backed by the bank. Today, a coin. Mexican peso....Japanese yen....take your pick.

^^(Two up, Trubblemakr
Since this thread is going to be deleted anyway, what the hell is wrong with you ? Why are you always going on with the self-righteous American bashing ? You know you really don't do us any favors with that crap.

OT : Yeah OP, look it up or maybe consider going to the source first at the very least. To my knowledge, the US has considered going to a dollar coin and may still be weighing the possibility but so far hasn't committed to anything. Even if they do opt for a more durable format to the dollar coin, probably won't see anything too radical included or omitted.

This does need to be deleted, but according to the pictures on U.S. Mint website the OP is correct.
As long as I can differentiate it from a quarter...that's all I care about.

guy, the difference is that these dollars burn a hole through Jesus on their way to Perdition. Which is kind of cool, but still wrong, wrong, wrong.

well since your opinion is so insightful pulse and you think yours is the only valid or useful one on the net, maybe there is no need for forums when we can all just read yours
to your knowledge they have considered.................. but havent committed , then a few words on format and to end it all you decide its probably not going to be radical ,... hmm good thing your opinion is so insightful
maybe ask yourself whats wrong with you instead of other people
at least i can formulate an opinion

my opinion was based on the ops comments , not the idea of a coin
his comments were self righteous because the only thing he highlighted was the fact there was no " in god we trust " crap on it. like the old money with in god we trust on it made it look any less redundant
pehaps its best to comment after you read and double check the comments prior to inept attacks.
doing you or anyone else a favor is moot, this is a forum where things are commented on and discussed, if you dont like that format start your own thread where you alone have the right to form an opinion. id suggest getting an opinion first tho

The only reason why the Canadian dollar coin did well in Canada was that the mint stopped printing $1 bills. Same thing happened later with the $2 coin. The changes weren't popular with Canadians but over time people learned to accept them.

I know the US gov't has tried the $1 dollar coin in the US since the Susan B. Anthony coin from 30 years ago but the US mint keeps on printing dollar bills.

Of course, people don't like "change" ....to coin a phrase. (Pun intended both times).

Good idea. You'd definitely be better off at the very least.

to your knowledge they have considered.................. but havent committed , then a few words on format and to end it all you decide its probably not going to be radical ,... hmm good thing your opinion is so insightful

And yours was .... ? What did you add to the conversation ? Just your usual America bashing. I wonder if you can go more than two posts without launching into some vitriole on the evils of the US . Don't accuse me of not sticking to the subject , you can't even manage to keep your politics out of any thought you post.

at least i can formulate an opinion

And with any luck, soon you'll be able to formulate a sentence that includes punctuation, capitalization, and proper syntax.

my opinion was based on the ops comments , not the idea of a coin

Really ? Don't play coy or stupid here. You used this topic as a soapbox to mount another silly anti-US rant. Did you forget ? It's plain as day in case you did.

pehaps its best to comment after you read and double check the comments prior to inept attacks.

First of all, learn how to properly use the few words at your disposal. "Inept" doesn't apply here. If it did, we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place. Secondly, if you'd bothered to follow the golden rule you ostensibly follow, you'd only have about half of what you had posted still sitting up there. Or is this is a case of "Do as I say, not as I do" ? Apparently so.

doing you or anyone else a favor is moot, this is a forum where things are commented on and discussed, if you dont like that format start your own thread where you alone have the right to form an opinion. id suggest getting an opinion first tho

Are you clear on the definition of the word "opinion" ? It appears not. Come to think of it, it's obvious that there are a lot of words that are a little fuzzy to you. That you can't parse a paragraph and glean information from it doesn't actually mean you've read it right anyway. I DID offer my opinion on the matter. Had I simply made a statement , I'd have looked up the topic and posted the facts. Should this thread manage to survive, that's precisely what I'll do.

Oh, and by the way, which is it ? Do I have an opinion or not ? You seem to be a little confused on whether or not it's the case. Or do you not even read what you yourself write ? Here's the key to posting a coherent idea though : Write it. Read it. Make sure you don't contradict yourself. Check for spelling and punctuation.

As for this whole topic though , it's silly.

Firstly, it's not a current event because the US has been minting dollar coins for quite some time.
Secondly, it's right there, plain as day that the last coin issued did indeed have "In God We Trust" written on it. What the OP must be referring to is the new Presidential dollar coins. Like all previous incarnations of the US dollar coin though, these are more novelty items than currency for general circulation. It's correct that the offending words are not present on these new coins. However, as they are more like novelty items to begin with, the inclusion of the words "In God We Trust" shouldn't really strike anybody as particularly conspicuous. While we actually happen to agree at some level that this is a non-issue , it's also not like the design cannot be modified.

I'm sorry to differ but according to the U.S. mint link - http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/$1coin/index.cfm?flash=yes&action=$1coinFlash
it clearly contains "E Pluribus Unum," "In God We Trust" and the mint mark

As long as I can differentiate it from a quarter...that's all I care about
werd! (gotta wonder who the brainiac was that made dollar coins so similar to quarters)

the word "Liberty" missing?
the word was omitted for a symbol, The Statue of Liberty - so technically it is still there

When does the Amero go into general circulation? > timi82

About the same time as the North American Union - when the USA, Canada and Mexico lose their borders and become one Union. The removal of the dollar bill (which has already occurred in New Zealand, where I live, and Australia [and Britain - the pound note]) is part of the New World Order, whether you like it or not. Laughing at it. Laughing at people's posts. Laughing and scorning people's ideas and thoughts and research won't get you anywhere.

The New World Order is on our doorstep. It will change everything. Even the laughter.

Best wishes - Soul Union.
