| | Homeless man accused of swindling 13 women Page 1 of 1 | A homeless man accused of duping 13 women by posing as a millionaire on an Internet dating service was arraigned Wednesday in this Philadelphia suburb.
Paul Krueger, 50, used a laptop computer to meet the women on Millionairematch.com, prosecutors said. He is accused of stealing more than $100,000 from the women after convincing them he was a Grammy-nominated record mogul who needed investors for a new business venture that manufactured DVDs, CDs and other videos. He showed one victim false stock reports detailing the success of his nonexistent new business, according to court papers.
Charges were filed in Souderton because that is where he told women to send him money; the address is the home of his ex-wife, authorities said.
Authorities say Krueger used the money to fuel his gambling addiction. He was arrested last week at a casino in Atlantic City, N.J., and did not fight extradition to Pennsylvania.
Krueger declined to comment to reporters as he was arraigned on charges of theft by unlawful taking or disposition, theft by deception, deceptive or fraudulent business practices and Pennsylvania Securities Act violations.

| Homeless man accused of swindling 13 women Posted: 6/5/2008 6:46:39 AM | | Personally, I think he's a pretty bright guy to pull that off. Although people looking to feed thier addictions will do almost anything. He should be punished somewhat for what he did, but those women who would send a man money who they've never met, should get charged for stupidity. | |

So you say the perpetrator is BRIGHT for pulling it off, yet in the same token, call the victims STUPID for falling for it? M'kay. *shakes head*

What he said. How people can be so gullible is beyond me. Oh and by the way, I have some land for sale....
This world is a mixture of all kinds of people, some smarter than others. There is a reason why hair dryers come with a "do not immerse in water" warning, why I keep getting the "you've won the British Lottery" spam, and why Bush won not only one, but two terms. Heck, I've done loads of stupid things and am thankful that I was never had to spent time in the can as some of you are willing to bestow as punishment.
The way I see it, nobody deserves to be swindled. It's not only morally wrong, it's illegal. So why attack the victims?

So you say the perpetrator is BRIGHT for pulling it off, yet in the same token, call the victims STUPID for falling for it? M'kay. *shakes head* He was most definatly bright... to come across as a record producing millionaire and to provide "proof" of his so-called business and wealth, when in fact he was a homeless man was... yep, a pretty smart cookie. And the "victims", yep stupid is the first word that comes to mind. M'kay.
The way I see it, nobody deserves to be swindled. It's not only morally wrong, it's illegal. So why attack the victims? Your right, it is illegal and wrong, but c'mon... there's taking advantage of the elderly with things like insurance scams and such, and then there's this story where a bunch a already weathly women will believe anything and give thousands to a man they have never met just to get richer. You can sympathize all you want for these women, but "stupid is, that stupid does".

People get swindled all of the time. Yes, of course, I initially thought "what the hell were they thinking,", but: 1) We're not in the position of being in their shoes. Some people are really great swindlers ;-), and can convince even the smartest of people to do stupid things. It happens more than you think.
2) Pointing the finger at the vicitims and calling them stupid will not accomplish a damn thing.

| Homeless man accused of swindling 13 women Posted: 6/5/2008 5:56:52 PM | | Some women are just too gullible and desperate and should not be online dating. I've heard stories similar to this that do not get reported to the authorities. | |

| Homeless man accused of swindling 13 women Posted: 6/5/2008 6:34:28 PM | Ottawa, I'm not here to "accomplish anything", I'm on here to reply to the thread topic in the way I feel I want to. Also, bright may not be the word you would use... but it's the word I would use.
not bright or intelligent in my book. I guess we have different books.
