Are Smart Cars cool?

Anyone drive a scooter?...you can get'em with a sidecar...honest injun.

Which make or model do you prefer?

What is your current fill up cost?

I drive a six cylinder 4 runner...costs near $80 bucks to fill up.

I have an SUV too. Eventually, I will buy a hybrid in the same model. I feel more secure driving something bigger as opposed to smaller. I cannot see myself in a smart car or on a scooter.

A couple of my guy friends own scooters, they are a ton of fun to ride but i'd only do so when it's a nice, sunny day. They use them as their primary vehicles which is just nuts in the middle of winter!

Smart cars.... yeah... no.

Yikes! arleneangel, that bites!

I have a Toyota Yaris/07 and I think its awesome!
Cost of fillup right now, about $60 and thats getting gas in Aldergrove.

I love a smaller car to drive and hope to drive it for many years to come.

My bicycles don't run on gas, so I use those for getting to work most of the time. The '57 panel truck costs around $60 to fill with gasoline. I'd considered converting to diesel since I've heard good things about the 4BT engine. But, the current cost of diesel fuel isn't encouraging. Maybe swap in the drivetrain out of a hybrid Explorer or Escape.

I'm also looking into converting to use M85 or M100. I'm not sure if that's any cheaper, though, and availability could be a problem.

My SUV gets 18mpg on avg. It is full time 4wdr. I see no need to change it. Show me a smart car/hybrid that can perform the way this does during our winters, and go the places I need to go during the summers.. Thought about changing over to diesel in the same vehicle...but at 1.40/l+? hmm... methinks the changeover cost and price differences for the added mileage aren't worth it...

I did change one of my work trucks from gas (5mpg) to a bigger diesel which now gets 11mpg with much more power..happy with that, but not fueling it up (350.00)..lol

Am looking at maybe getting a motorcycle though, just for cruising..and those odd trips to the city for "nothing"...

I own a 06 Dakota with a V8, bit of a gas guzzler, sure, but, BUT, I feel a lot more comfortable and safer, driving my DAK, because of it;s size and weight of over 4,ooo pounds then a Smart Car of what, 1,500 pounds could or would ever possibly give me.

NOPE, I will stick with the DAK, and NOT bother with a Smart Car, thank you much.

Comfort, and safety comes first with me.

My SUV ranges from 12 to 20 liters per 100km (24 to 14 miles per gallon) , highway-city and 4x4 off road, fill up went from 55 to 90 lol and the little city wheels do about 6/100 (47 m/g) fill up is $ 50 now.

Watched this on Discovery a while ago.
A young fellow bought a small used pick up 4 years ago for $ 6000, spent 3 years to convert it to electric (batteries in box) cost him $ 7000 in parts.

Power output (acceleration) is faster than most equal sized vehicles (6/7 seconds, 0 to 100 km)

A full charge will give him a range of about 150 km and he can plug it in at every 110 outlet. Empty to full charge time is about 6 to 8 hrs.

His monthly kilowatt battery charge consumption is about $ 15.00. Don’t know how much he drives, but apparently he uses the vehicle to commute to work.

if you read the safety specs for the Smart you will learn that the crash resistance is better for this little thing than a big heavy car, due to the 'bounce' effect. The only disadvantage one has in the small car is when one gets wedged between 2 heavier objects.

I went from a smaller family car(saturn) to an explorer. I don't have to fill up any more often though it does cost more. I went from 50 a fill to 80+ I find it worth it I feel much safer in a bigger vehicle. Added to that more room for the kiddies.

Have no plans to go green in that aspect anytime soon.
