| Fake language - Babe, hun, luv, dear, hot, fit, sexy and so on... Posted: 6/6/2008 1:45:04 PM | Does anyone else cringe when they are called certain fake corny demeaning adjectives to respresent your character from another person's perspective?
I'm sure most people have received emails and/or messages from someone along the lines of "hi babe u look fit and hot wanna chat sexy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!?" That's the kind of language and talk I would associate with a teenager not a 30 or 40 something year old person.
I'm try to understand why people use such crass words especially when flirting online with someone who you do not know at all. I really don't want to be called hun, babe, fit, hot, sexy, luv etc... it just lacks imagination and orginality in my view.

Well you'd be very wrong there then........... people that send these messages only want one thing.......... I have a rule if someone messages me either by mail or the instant thingy on here, if sex / horny / hot is mentioned within the first five lines of chat , you know exactly where the chat is going and I finish it there and then.
There's no age limit to people that get off on sending messages like these...sadly

^^^^^ Kath maybe we should compare inboxes ? lol

| Fake language - Babe, hun, luv, dear, hot, fit, sexy and so on... Posted: 6/6/2008 1:55:01 PM | I've had the usual "hi Babes blah blah", but someone i exchanged emails with briefly, used to call me Sweatheart all the time, it was friggin annoying. I didn't want to say anything, because the bloke thought alot of himself, and i didn't want to burst his bubble.. | |

Today is my one year 'anniversary' of being on POF. Surprisingly perhaps (ha!) I am yet to receive such a message...... might be quite a novelty......though of course should this ever occur I would both thank the sender and reply to the effect that the writer may wish to avail themselves of the services of a local optometrist at their earliest convenience......!

| Fake language - Babe, hun, luv, dear, hot, fit, sexy and so on... Posted: 6/6/2008 2:18:39 PM | I'm with you on this one, OP!
I HATE those horrible horrible (often misspelled) terms of endearment when used to address someone who is NOT dear to you.
I am not a 'Hun'. I'm sure of that.
I am not 'Babes'. I'm sure that if I belonged to a fictional porcine character in a film, I would know about it.
Like others, if people address me with these cruddy terms, I don't even bother to read their mail.

I really cannot believe that these sort of messages get sent to people. But clearly they do. It is insane.
They must have a helper that types it for them I think. After all if that is all they can muster then how did they have the intelligence to switch on the computer in the first place. They clearly can't type properly as their hands are damaged form dragging their knuckles along the floor.
And please, are there ANY ladies out there who have read a message like that and been impressed and emailed back?

| Fake language - Babe, hun, luv, dear, hot, fit, sexy and so on... Posted: 6/6/2008 3:12:50 PM | You and me both mate :(
I s'pose we have to remember that different expressions are okay in certain parts of the country. I mean, here in Nottingham everyone calls everyone else 'me duck' (blokes call blokes 'me duck' which I find mildly amusing).
Yet if I call anyone 'love' here I get daggers thrown at me by people's eyeballs (clever eyeballs). Yet, where I was born and bred darn Sarf innit, 'love' is generally accepted. If I call anyone 'me duck' down there I get 'funny looks' too. Or a smack in the mouth from a meathead if he thinks I'm gay and am trying to chat him up.
I do think it's a bit naff for people over 30 to use chavspeak, however. Mind you, on AN Other site, I find even saying 'I found your picture extremely attractive' elicits no response whatsoever either, so maybe taking the direct approach is the way to go ?
So, let's turn this around on its head - how would people prefer to be addressed ?

| Fake language - Babe, hun, luv, dear, hot, fit, sexy and so on... Posted: 6/6/2008 3:15:37 PM | Oh come on, who cannot be excited by the cry of " You want Fuky Fuky?.. Me Fuky you good alnite.. You sooo Big you make me want to Fuky you now"??
Ok so it is a translation of the Scouse dialect but...??? Ley's face it, terms of endearment have their place, don't they daa-hling???

| Fake language - Babe, hun, luv, dear, hot, fit, sexy and so on... Posted: 6/6/2008 3:21:08 PM | I would never used "u r fit and sexy lets chat xxxxxxxxxxx".... I think I would use the approach of "Hi, you look nice and have an interesting profile, maybe we can exchange a few messages then meet up and allow me to experience penetration of your vagina?" If I was looking for an "Intimate Encounter"!!!!!!
People over 30 using chavspeak? I agree but it's still naff for anyone of any age to use chav speak.

mrs hamilton is my bra burner, not so much a tearm of endearment but historical fact.
it always gets her vote and i`m right with her that she`s allowed could you repeat what you just wrote there Mr. Hamilton...more slowly, because I swear I didn't understand a word of it.
I call everybody I talk to Lover..if it causes offense..I don't care..plenty more lovers out there for me to shower endearments upon.

| Fake language - Babe, hun, luv, dear, hot, fit, sexy and so on... Posted: 6/6/2008 5:58:20 PM | i cringe when someone who doesn't know me, calls me hun, babe etc....
when someone i do know calls me a pet name, i assume its because they are chatting to so many people that they can't remember my name. its a bit insulting!
this only applies online... in real life, i have names for most of the people i care about and love it when they do the same.

| Fake language - Babe, hun, luv, dear, hot, fit, sexy and so on... Posted: 6/6/2008 6:29:43 PM | I cant say I have a problem with the likes of hun and babe etc. Whether we like it or not, language evolves. With the age of the internet, it evolves quicker as trends fashions get around so quickly.
What I do object to is over-use of text speak.
