Who Will Obama Choose?
Posted: 6/7/2008 6:53:05 PM
Hillary Rodham Clinton suspended her pioneering campaign for the presidency today and summoned supporters to use "our energy, our passion, our strength" to put Barack Obama in the White House.

My question is, who do you think Obama will choose as Vice President and why?
Both Clinton and Obama have made statements that would tend to convince most of us that they will combine forces.

Clinton has stated, "I endorse him and throw my full support behind him" and
Obama, in a statement from Chicago where he was spending the weekend, declared himself "thrilled and honored" to have Clinton's support.

Clinton has also told colleagues she would be interested in joining Obama as his running mate and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, an Obama supporter, said Saturday that she had made "a powerful case for her eligibility" to be on the ticket.

I find it humorous that after the two of them have been "in the ring" for months, now that Obama has undoubtedly won, Clinton sings his praises along with his supporters .

Then you must find most political alliances absolutely hilarious.

A secret meeting b/w the two right after Obama gets the Dem. Nom and Clinton doesn't 'concede' and/or 'suspend' immediately... a meeting with noone else to hear.... add to the mix political careers at stake...both H. Clinton and Obama. One can only speculate what deals were struck.

I think Jim Webb would be good choice for VP because he can counterbalance McCain's military experience and he hasn't been in Wasshington all that long. If Obama wants a true "Change" then he has to look to those who haven't been part of the problem. I think Webb has the same desire to erradicate the culture of corruption that has dilapidated Washington.
When Obama gave his first speech as the presumptive candidate, Jim Webb spoke before him.

Any rumors on anyone other than Senator Clinton for VP? I just don't think that combination would work.

I find it humorous that McCain accepts the endorsement of GWB who just a couple of years ago insulted his wife, his child, and I think even his mother if memory serves.....yes, hilarity ensues.

I think he is strongly considering Hillary as a running mate, depending on how the public is reacting over the next couple of months. If he gains support without her, he will choose someone else, then give her the job of her choice in the cabinet.

Without Hillary he will probably win. With Hillary, he can't lose.

First, if McCain chooses Bobby Jindal (Rep. Gov.) who is on the short list - Obama will have a tough time indeed.

If the above happens, Obama will need Hillary Clinton to have a race.

The Obama supporters will vote for him no matter who else is on the ticket.
The Clinton supporters will vote for her no matter who else is on the ticket.
Without Clinton, too many of her supporters will stay at home or even vote the other way.
This undeniable logic will win the day eventually.
They should wait until the convention to announce it though.

If there is not a rapid healing, an Obama/Clinton ticket will force the healing of the party. Like you said Obama supporters will cry but they will vote for him. Clinton supporters would be energized and feel like they were back in the Race. Other wise many will be on the side line.

If McCain has a V/P like JC Watts or a Bobby Jindal .....

Obama will be in trouble without Clinton.

Talk about charismatic, smart, very articulate... Bobby Jindal is spot on! and has youth on his side so if anything did happen to McCain, there would be no fear he could step right into place.

I watched him being interviewed tonight. I was ... like... whoa! This dude has 'IT'.

We could all sing the "Brady Bunch " song... I don't know 8 years of that might be tooooo much.
the Bio says he choose his name from Bobby on the Brady Bunch. He was a Rhodes Scholar. Sure would change the McCain out look.

Typical liberal wishful thinking, again. Counting the proverbial chickens before they hatch. Same mentality that had reporters asking McCain why he didn't go ahead and bow out ( a few months ago).

There is only one election, one poll that counts and that will be held in November.

I feel really good about this. I'm looking for a McCain landslide.

The Obamacons are going to wait until after the convention before they demand McCain withdraw.

I don't think we are going to have landslides again. The country is too gerrymandered.

We are split.........

Me? A liberal?

Hey, pal, just cause I accept the cold hard facts doesnt mean I support Obama.
As a matter of fact, I supported Huckabee formally and now will vote for McCain.

I absolutely agree the Country is split. And, it will come down to the choices in VPs. Wow! Think about that. This entire election could hinge on who McCain and Obama choose as running mates.

And.. another 'historical' thing which happened (even though it was overshadowed by race and gender) is that this is the first time 2 Senators are running against each other. Pretty cool indeed I think!

I don't know TOO much about American politics , but I was talking to one of my co-workers (an American), and he was explaining to me why he thought Webb would be a good VP, which included:
1) his counter balance to McCains military experience (as mentioned above by skoochie) and the fact that he's held a few positions in public service to this end.
2) putting Obama and Clinton together is just too liberal, where, it was explained to me, Webb is a little more center and would balance Obamas liberal-ness better.
3) Webbs from the South.
That's someone else's opinion, but it made sense to me.
I don't know who all the players are, so I'm really not too sure myself. I have enough fun keeping track of all the clowns in Canadian politics that I don't really have the time to watch those details south of the border. I will be interested to see who the next Pres'll be though...

Is there a reason why the exact same threads keep getting posted in different forums? I know that there are different audiences, but this is the second thread that is the exact same posted in a different forum.

I'm still holding out hope for Gov. Janet Napolitano of Arizona. Tough, Has bi-partisan support of her legislature and is outside of the Beltway.
