| How do you Beat the Heat! Posted: 6/9/2008 4:14:18 AM | If you've lived in Florida for any time at all, you know what's coming up for the next 5-6 months, weather-wise.
Anybody want to share their favorite activities to beat the heat......especially ones that are date-friendly!
Two of mine are:
1. Morning canoe trip on a spring fed, cool & clear river near my town......once you get hot from the paddle, you can flop over into liquid azure pools of 72 degree goodness! No houses, condos or golf courses to intrude on the dull humm of dragonflies, just Old Florida, summer style. Ahhh......now that's livin'!
2. Weekday afternoon movie.....nothing like having a whole theatre to yourselves. Sweet, cool, crisp darkness & only a $27 box of popcorn away from nirvana. I swear, I could watch a documentary on toast, as long as I could sit there in the Batcave for a while. Okay, so walking out into the 4:30 broil is kinda like being reborn onto the face of the Sun....but it's still a nice escape from the daily swamp.
What's your formula for making it thru the cruel summer down here?

| How do you Beat the Heat! Posted: 7/2/2008 1:02:01 PM | I was born & raised down here in South Florida. And I have personally seen the heat increase year after year.
It's soooo hot now that you melt as soon as you walk out the front door. I don't even know where Winter went.... And there's no need to wear a jacket or sweater anymore.
I rarely spend time outside during the summer, I stay in doors. THANK GOD for air conditioning! I couldn't live without it!
It's SO HOT here, it feels like you're opening up the oven & stepping into it when you get in your car. The heat just hits you and those few minutes it takes for your car's a/c to kick in are torture!
I feel really bad for the poor dogs that have to live outside in this heat! OMG, try wearing a fur coat & standing outside in the hot sun all day long.... poor animals. I think a human would pass out after 30 minutes.... yet so many people keep their poor dogs outside. My dogs live inside my home in the comfortable a/c :-) and I wouldn't have it any other way! Some of you may not agree that dogs should live inside a house because they are animals..... what people forget is that we are animals too.
Well, here's my summer time list for beating the heat:
1.) Enjoy a movie at your local Movie Theater
2.) Get to know your Mall. We have one that's 1 mile long!
3.) You can't go wrong with a Water Park! Lazy River, here I come!
4.) Just stay home! Who says you can't find enough to do at home?
5.) Go over someone else's house for a visit & enjoy their a/c, LOL!
6.) Bowling is great, it's fun, a group activity & yes, it has a/c!
7.) Restaurants can be good, you can stay for a few hours talking to your BFF!
8.) Karaoke Bars should be at the top of my list. Hours worth of fun with a/c!
And for those planning a summer time vacation, try doing something different! Instead of going to Disney World this year & dying in the heat, try taking a family friendly cruise! Cruise ships are like floating hotels with so much entertainment, you never have to leave the ship! I took a cruise which had a library, full spa, theater with las vegas style shows, a movie theater, a rock climbing wall, wave pool, jacuzzi, gym & a HUGE ice skating rink! And with 24 hour food & drinks, dances, fine dining, pictures/portraits, computers, cable tv and so much more you'll never ever get bored! I am definitely hooked on crusies simply because they have it all!!! And I'll make sure to visit Mickey Mouse in December or January when it is cooler outside, LOL!
Well, FOLKS, that's a rap! Hope my list helps you beat the heat this summer!

| How do you Beat the Heat! Posted: 7/14/2008 9:32:38 AM | Beat it? I've been in FL so long I think I've become accustomed to the heat - like those Badwater runners who run 135 miles through Death Valley every July. I can't mow the lawn until the grass dries out. There are days - like yesterday - when I came in for a drink and a rest and changed into some dry clothes - 3 times. I don't wear a bra when I work outside because the nylon of the bra is just so uncomfortable when wet. I do plan outside work for early morning or late afternoon and around noon we settle down in the air conditioned living room and watch a movie I have downloaded.
