| Hosting a state-wide or regional POF event? Posted: 6/9/2008 8:02:54 AM | OK Florida hosts and hostesses this is an idea that's been on my mind for more than a year. Perhaps some of you have had the same thought as well:
Can several of us put our heads together and combine our resources and talent to put on a POF event of State-wide or Regional (within the state). Maybe a weekend POF Fest?
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this subject.

| Hosting a state-wide or regional POF event? Posted: 6/10/2008 8:13:56 AM | I like this idea too... Maybe a location central to all interested, easy to get too, inexpensive.. Maybe each area can utilize a central separate thread for a carpools to the events for all to sign up. Keep event GREEN... It needs a way of local area hosts doing their own threads for maybe a function of the event that they are assigned or chose to do. Karaoke...Dance...Foods...etc. May be a Earth event that encompasses all interests of POF events and parties we have had. Dang maybe even a day/night cruise ship could be a nice change. I haven't enjoyed one of those yet. Lots of possiblities....Some thing that would reach out to new users, to try POF, and come out of their shells of a "FAILED Relationship". POF events has done that for me. And you can't keep what you don't share, we say alot. Maybe a month of 4 weekends with separate joint hosted events so it allows maximum people of whole state to participate and meet each other.
There are a lot of possibilities and I certainly will do what I can to have it be a success, so I am sure would the other hosts from Orlando Central Florida Area. Put your 2 cents in for yourself. POF is designed to self run... with participation of many to take the torch and lit the fire.
on to next event,,, he he

| Hosting a state-wide or regional POF event? Posted: 6/12/2008 5:02:58 AM | OK Florida hosts and hostesses...
WRONG! I made this sound like only "host and hostesses" should contribute to this thread, and that was not my intention at all. My approach to this is to be inclusive and to tap the collective conciousness of the school of fish.
Thanks to those of you who have posted here as well as those who have written me personally. Already, I can see that there are a number of alternatives emerging that might work as well as obstacles to making it happen, which for the most part have been presented to me via email. We need to see both posted here in order to get a clear picture of what might be involved in such an endeavor.
So here is my appology to those of you who may have initially felt excluded.
Let's have a dialogue! | |

| Hosting a state-wide or regional POF event? Posted: 6/23/2008 9:12:44 AM | Hi Jason, The end of last summer I suggested the start of a "rotating" state wide party program. The suggestion was that there be Four "Seasonal " Parties. Spring/summer/fall/ winter, parties organized in North/ south/east/west areas of florida.
Planning the first party here for early fall, I sent E-mails to others POF'ers who were hosting parties through-out the state and invited them to join us in October in Port Charlotte for a Day-long Party with cardboard boat races, pot luck pic-nics, pumpkin carving, volleyball, fishing, to name a few activities. The daytime party was to be followed up with an evening of Dancing. I rented the park space- in advance-they required the full rental be paid up front. There was alot of talk back an fourth, yet no-one would take responsibility for helping to plan activities, nor commit to coming from any distance. Local members said a full day in the sun followed with an evening party was just too much.
DeeDee and I carved pumpkins, we ended up having the evening dance, (I believe you attended the party), and I chalked the cost of the Park rental up to "experience" for going out on a limb, and the idea of statewide parties died from apathy.
As there are always new people joining POF we may be able to get some, fresh enthusiasm from new members, or from longtime members who miss the old parties.
Jason, the group is lucky to have members like you and ThirdTimeAround on POF. Both of you are wonderful people to know and your undying willingness to keep the ball rolling deserves comment. Please feel free to call on me anytime, I'm always willing to help.

| Hosting a state-wide or regional POF event? Posted: 6/25/2008 6:45:35 AM | Hi Everyone!
I think it would be very nice also.. getting together on a regional or state level. My personal idea would be at a hotel, which would have a large enough ballroom/diningroom to feed and handle the crowd (several hotel/motels could be used, and if done correctly special rates could be agreed upon).
My concern is that if we do not have a private room for our group, as well as some activities planned besides a dance, there will be an influx of non POF people attending ( I've been to several local.. just helped one last week..) and between the several hundred Fishies... and the hotel guests and regualars and friends of the POF members.. we were a bit too crowded for my liking in the regular bar/club .. and non members were able to partake of the munchies put out for POF for free and some of our group missed out.
I happen to be a dancer, and have attended some dance weekends, where the group sponsoring was NOT looking to make any money. The prices were very reasonable, and usually rooms are on a cost basis not person basis, so with an extra bed or cot, 3 or 4 can share a room for a reasonable cost. All meals do not have to be included, to keep cost lower, but atleast some could be included. A nice dinner dance would be my choice.. could be buffet or sit down depending on cost.
There could be some discussion groups, about relationships, dating, etc and depending on where we were to end up, other activities and maybe get group rates for some. I would bet there are members who might volunteer to teach.. dance, art, or what ever!!
It can be alot of work.. so be prepared.. if you get involved!! but can be lots of fun too!!
Just my couple 10 cents! Michael

Aren't all POF events already open to everyone even if they aren't local to the event? Wanna_Dance, I didn't see anything to indicate otherwise in the posts above yours, but thanks to the monitor we now all have clairity on the matter. It's good to know that someone is watching over us
My original thought (maybe not original thinking) was to have a single weekend-long event at a centrally located venue, which of course would be open to all members of POF as well as other singles.
Such and event would require considerable effort, resources and outside support. I've thought that a venue of substantial size yet modest means might be the ticket. Cypress Gardens is an example of such a venue based on location, accomodations, the size of the venue and since they stand alone in the market perhaps a willingness to work with POF.
Many things to consider in thinking of an event of this magnitude. Here are just three things to be considered: 1. Is POF flexible enough to be the umbrella organization? 2. What and where is there a venue we can work with? 3. Who'll help cover the costs, which by rule we can't do?
The purpose of my post was to "intiate a dialogue". Many will be quick to say it can't be done. But, who would have thought that we could have a successful event in Highlands County?
