Houseboat trip broadwater gold coast Aug 15th [LOCKED UNDER REVIEW]
Posted: 6/9/2008 5:39:16 PM
Hi all
I have had contact with a number of houseboat hire firms, at this stage I would propose August 15th which is a friday, returning to the marina sunday afternoon by 4pm, NOTE depature and return from Gold Coast City Marina.

Costs are yet to be 100% confirmed but at this stage, depending on numbers houseboat hire will be around 90 to 100 per person for the whole weekend, this is plus food and booze.

The company has a number of 8 to 10 berth boats, I need an indication of numbers to get a more accurate figure.
There will be some things that need to be followed to the letter if this is to work and keep the price down for everyone. I will need two other people to work with me to put this together, this is for accountability reasons, as we will need to pay and book as one lot atleast two or three weeks prior to the date, and I do not wish to be handling a significant amount of other peoples money without others assisting, this is for transperancy purposes, unless someone else has a better way to do it

So please give an indication 0n interest and I will get more information

I give you a hand with the arrangments if you like, Losenut.

Maybe as they put there name up as going they pay a depoist, with the full amount to be paid by the time of the final booking.

Like I said on the weekend , LOVE THE IDEA !!!

So if my math is correct , $800.00 plus per boat for Fri Nite to Sun Afternoon.?

I would stick my hand up to help , just cant confirm my availability til the second week in July , so til then I am a maybe.

I wonder only three things ,

First , how much cheaper would it be if we departed Sat morning? Some people work and would find it hard to be packed , transported and ready on a Fri afternoon and this may also bring the price down considerably. (Those who want to can attend Fri either in one or two boats or stay somewhere local ready for the Sat Departure.)

Second , what are the rules about accountability of the boats , insurance , and where we can and cant go , and what we can and cant do.

Thirdly , can we stay on ? Maybe we might have a crew for one boat and want to stay on Sun Nite and Mon to recover , I wonder how much that would be.? Is there any discounts for extended stays , ie pay for two nites and get the third one free , etc.... just interested.

Oh and only one other thing , the law is as stiff on the water as it is on the road , drink boating is a serious offence , that we will have to considder too.

I just re read all the above and it seems a little negative , believe me its not , its just we have to be careful when we hire things as a group. I believe one for all and all for one , if there is a bond or any accountability we should all be included and all accountable for any misshaps and or damage.

Your fishy thoughts

Cheers

On Ya Pete
below is a breakdown of the costs, hiring is from friday afternoon until Monday morning, some could stay out after sunday if they wished at no extra cost, there will be a bond I am waiting until I here back from them but it is likely to be around 500 per boat, they usually do a credit card swipe and each boat would need to be responsible for themselves (unless someone has better idea)

Still need someone else to come on board because of the money issue I stated above, we will need to pay upfront by say MID JULY because of the way this needs to be done if you book and pay and then dont go you lose your money so dont do it, you can always transfer your spot to someone else that is not on the list...but you CAN NOT get your MONEY back. I suggest going on to the website and having a look at the boats their names appear below, the Team arranging will allocate boats in the same manner Pete allocated rooms for the longweekend trip

NOEL has be a great bloke and volunteered as skipper on one boat, I am happy to be another, I need two more please, you dont need a boat licence, they wont go faster then 6 knots but these boats are in excess of 9 tonne if your not confident dont do it.

Better to have a go steering if you want to under the supervision of someone who knows how to steer a boat and knows the rules.

Within reason the skipper of each vessle has complete control and his word is final

Here are my thoughts on destination
leave friday for a run down the Coomera river anchor inside the river for the night, as we must be anchored by 5 pm
Saturday motor to tipplers resort on south Straddie, anchor here there is a camp ground with toilets and a place for fires, there are also free electric BBQs, given that it is august there wont be a lot of people camping so we are likely to have the place to ourselves.

Fire wood can sometimes be bought on the island and sometimes not...anyone have a contact perhaps we can arrange a couple of large sugar bags full to take with us.

In addition to the costs below are food and drinks

Finally suggest that you go on to the Coomera Houseboat site and have a look at the boats yourself....will be a real hoot of a weekend.....I am also in the planning stage of some fun activities for saturday but will discuss those when I have finished thinking about it
so BYO grog
food could be done at about 30 per head
www.coomerahouseboats.com.au
the link to their site is above
Pete I have asked that they include up to 5 hours motoring in the figures above, anymore and the cost goes up see web site for hourly rate

Good afternoon,

Below I have done a break up of costs for you, motoring costs etc.

Mist Breaker- 10 berth, 4singles & 3 doubles $ 900.00 + Out board motor $70.00

Diva- 10 berth, 4singles & 3 doubles $ 900.00 + Out board motor $70.00

Paradise II- 10 berth, 2 singles & 4 doubles $1,000.00 + Out board motor $70.00

Osprey- 12 berth, 4 singles & 4 doubles $1,000.00 + Out board motor $70.00

Escapade- 12 berth, 2 singles & 5 doubles $1,100.00 + Out board motor $70.00

$4,900.00 + $350.00 =$5,250.00

You will approximately use 5-6 motoring hours per boat if you were to go to the nth bedrooms back to Tipplers then return to our jetty. All the boats above have a $24.00 charge per motoring hour.

6 motoring hrs x $24.00 = $144.00 x 5 boats = $720.00

Your total so far would approx be = $5,970.00 or $119.40 ( per person)

Go to Events Section and read the POSTING RULES at the top , all you do is post the event again and then message a POF admin and they will put it up and dress it up for you as your a first timer.

Its probably a good Idea to leave this here for about 2 weeks and see what response we get.

Cheers

Hi Losenut

As discussed over the weekend, I am more than happy to Skipper one of the boats, there just has to be a few rules etc

But, I'm in !!!

I did mention to you that I had hired from them previuosly and am supposed to be eligible for a discount etc, maybe a group discount even .

I also have a GPS with the marine charts for the Broadwater in it.

When thinking about he arrangements for this remember

After recent events, Bigfish (the owner & admin of Plentyoffish) has determined that events that require the host of the event to pay sums of money upfront, or collect deposits or any monies on behalf of members CANNOT be advertised on plentyoffish. Events should be the type that ANYONE can step in and host the event without incurring huge personal expenses. This rule is in place for two reasons

1) Protecting the host from incurring large losses
2) Discouraging profiteering by hosts at the expense of other users. This venue does not condone, nor will it permit such activities. Unfortunately we cannot corroborate, nor are we in a position to validate actual above board claims as there are no resources available to do so - hence the above stipulations.

What that means is as a host, you need to find free venues OR venues that charge the user a fee such as a cover charge. For example, lets say a roller rink, if the rink charge users $7 per person that is acceptable but if the host has to pay $500 and then has to try to recover the money from the users that would be unacceptable. The event should be set up so that if you can not fulfill your obligations as a host, anyone else should be able to step in without risking personal financial loss.

This rule can also be applied to food. If a place provides food, guests should order and pay for their own food individually instead of the host ordering a quantity of food and then trying to recover the expenses through extra fees charged by the host. If the venue charges a fee, lets say for a buffet, it is okay to have this as long as the guests pay on a per guest fee. Users should have the ability to opt out of ordering food.

Under these new rules and expectations, only the venue itself should be charging any fee. (because there will be no need for hosts to recover any monies). No one but the venue should be asking for any money - period. That goes for cash donations, draws, 50/50's, etc. It is unacceptable to charge any fee to try to recover fees for things such as dj's, hall rentals, etc. As stated above, events that require the host of the event to pay sums of money upfront CAN NOT be advertised on plentyoffish.

Any host that is found collecting fees will have their account suspended.

And

you cannot advertise for an event in which there are minimum requirements by the venue (for example: 300 guests needed to be able to host the event at that venue)

Sorry Losenut, I'll have to bow out.
i'm financially strapped till summer. In Summer when its warmer for swimming, I will stretch my finances somehow to attend. It sounds like a fantastic weekend.

HI ALL
given what the moderator has said, I will contact the houseboat hire firm and see if they would be prepared to accept all the funds direct rather than go thru me with a couple of other members assiting.

I will advise once I have spoken to them

Judging by Tentafield , no-one slept in their own beds anyway , and we would be having more than 2 boats. If they were not moored together I guess you would hear if someone was jumping ship to get into someone elses bed. Oh and if that makes you nervous about coming for security and privacy reasons , there were some of us at Tentafield that wanted to be alone or had partners and wanted privacy , and everyone respected that , I think with the ammount of fun that was had , everyone on the other hand was very well behaved.

Pete

PS , I do hope this goes ahead , but I am concerned about the cost. $150+ for the weekend although I suppose its quite cheap ...............

Hi kids, i have been on a couple of house boats and u will find the bed are a 3/4 bed size not a double as i was told each time, and some house boats u can't use the power to charge phone or much else for that fact...so be warned batteries go flat when u flush the toilets to often.
Just a hint for the drinkers ...take a bucket to flash...LOL

Ok have spoken with the houseboat people and I am waiting for a response, I have outlined the problem to them and asked that they present a solution that would enable this trip to go ahead and meet with the guidelines of fish admin

As far as food is concerned there are a number of ways to go as there are 3 eating places within easy walking distance ie no more than a few hundred metres in any direction, and there are also free lectric BBQ at the camp site.

I have been told that parks and marine queensland govt now charge a small fee if you want to stay and use cooking faclities, its a bout $2.00 per head ...so I think this solves the food issue....either bring your own and cook on the boat, use the island facilities or go to one of three cafe type places.

I understand timming issues, ie when yo leave, the only reason I suggested friday pm is because the hireboat weekend starts friday afternoon and finishes monday morning...so I was attempting to get as much bang for the buck as possible

So come on let me know your thoughts, this would be a great weekend.....

So is there anything else , Insurance , Fuel , etc.

Can we get a discount for 2 or 3 boats?

What would be the price for 24 hours Sat lunch to Sun lunch? just as an option.

Have we checked the tides , maybe we could drift while we are doing some fishing , or drinking , or both.

Also is there camping faciliteis at the camp ground , what if we camped as well , maybe an option for those who want a cheaper option. Whats the load limit on the boat , ie No of Adults , life jackets etc.

Maybe get one boat and use it for cooking and socializing and the rest of us can camp around the fire on the beach. Just a thought.

Is there a party pontoon available for hire maybe or something that caters for more bodys.

All just Ideas

Cheers

not sure about how many can go on one houseboat, it would certainly be possible to take more than it can sleep and have the rest camp
the price quoted is for aprox 40 people taking enough boats to sleep evryone
need to think more about it and get response back from the hire mob about how the money could be organised given the moderators comments

fuel is extra but the price quoted of 119 per head included 5 or 6 hours
tenders for each boat with an outboard attached and a full tank of fuel

It sounds like great fun Losenut... am afraid its just not something I can commit to, and I realise that's what you need.

The cost is a lot to wear if something comes up (as it has for a few of the informal gatherings that dont require specific numbers) so you might find that's what has people hesitating.

If you're in the position to hire a boat, why not set a date and shoot out a few invites via your inbox? That way you can maybe make some new friends too, and its a bit more personal. I got one the other day from a boat owner who is organising a trip in the next few weeks... it sounds like fun. I can pass your name onto him too, if you want?
