Posted: 6/11/2008 5:59:49 PM | Ok..here is one for all you locals...Mark Cuban,the owner of the Dallas mavericks,wants in the worsest to buy the Chi Cubs and Wriglely Stadium..He thinks he could be good for both....
As a Dallas area resident..all i can say is "GOOD LUCK"....Most of us think he is an idiot and has done more harm than good to the Mavs....

Posted: 6/13/2008 9:19:46 PM | They will probably get $1 billion for the sale. It's likely a group or conglomerate will buy the team as opposed to one individual like Cuban, keeping in mind that MLB can squash any deal with an individual or group they feel might be detrimental to the league.
There are a lot of things that have to be considered. They may try and sell the team without Wrigley Field, and no prospective owner would go for that. On the other hand, whomever buys the team with the ballpark included will have a huge financial burden built in because the park needs to be upgraded and modernized very badly.
Zell also doesn't want want to incur a huge capital gains tax from a billion dollar sale. So he wants a deal structured to avoid that.
As long as the Cubs keep winning, they're in no hurry to sell. | |

Back on topic... There are tons of rumors about who's buying the Cubs. Being a Sox fan, it doesn't matter all that much to me. The Cubs would likely do better with just about anyone who wanted to do an overhaul about everything having to do with their organization. Whatever they've been doing thus far obviously isn't working for them. Goat or no goat. | |

100 YEARS and still going, it won't matter who buys, those guys will still find a way to choke in the playoffs, just as long as you keep packing the Field (stadium) they will NEVER put a winning team together to win it all! Still laugh about how you blame it on that poor Steve Bartman (Moved to Florida)and it was the next wild pitch and than the infielder who lost the game. Bartman wasn't the only one reaching, he just happen to get the ball. LOOK at the tapes, crybabies. You still would of the lost in the World Series anyways, save you the misery and you got some poor guy to blame.....

But as you brought it up with the obvious reason being to gloat, the 3 games the Cubs swept the weekend before count just as much as the 3 the Sox won. They're only regular season games. I also wonder if Zambrano had pitched one of those games the Cubs would've taken 4 of 6 from the Sox this year.
And it took the Sox 88 years to win the series, so I'm not seeing how their organization has been a pillar of success that the Cubs should try and emulate. Remember, 2 years after 2005 the Sox lost 90 games.
As for the cancel by September comment, that makes no sense whatsoever. The Cubs made the playoffs in 2003, 2007 and will make it this year. That's 3 out of the last 6 years. The playoffs start in October. So how have they been cancelled by September? | |
