| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/12/2008 10:35:10 PM | ok...here's the problem....I take care of stray cats....been doing it for years....have about 5 outside right now..... my **** of a neighbor set out a trap for them today....one of those cages that closes after the cat goes in it...& she put tuna in it..... normally my cats rarely even go in her yard...but they are going to smell that tuna.... we've already kicked it twice & set it off...& she reset it.... I'm fixing to go James Bond on her ass..... I'm gonna dress in black & hide my hair......I'm gonna go steal it.....& dispose of it well.... I know, she'll just get another.....but eventually animal control won't give her any more, I hope.... my only other ideas are to spray it with something that will keep the cats away...but I don't know what.... or....put a stuffed animal in it...call animal control...act like I'm her & I need them to pick up a cat.... do that a few times...they should stop dealing with her...
so...does anyone have any better ideas? & does anyone know what they'll do...should I get caught stealing it?...

| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/12/2008 11:03:48 PM | she hates animals...that's what she told my other neighbor... she's says she can't grow flowers cause they eat them....yet my yard is full of flowers.. yeah, I thought about taking it & trying to fix it where it would look like it was still set, but really wouldn't work...but I don't know how to do it or have any tools...maybe if I had a sauder gun... | |

| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/12/2008 11:22:59 PM | If this is a device that animal control gave to her with permission to trap animals going on to her property, then be very careful how you tread.
I don't know about where you live, but where I live they have by-laws about how any animal not on the premises of the owner, under the control of the owner, can be taken away.
My mother used to let our cat out, and one day our cat didn't show up for a while. Our cat was killed by another animal and we found it's body in the bushes by the creek. It was very upsetting and something to consider too.

| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/13/2008 12:12:04 AM | oh I know...I wish I could keep them inside...but I just can't....my son is allergic & I've found 1 cat that doesn't bother him...a short haired white 1....so we keep her in but some of the other 1's, I can't even pet yet....it took me months to get to that point with some of them...
& yes...it was from animal control...

I had to go into the woods at the end of my cul-de-sac...then cut through the woods til I got behind her house.....with no flashlight.....that was kinda exciting actually.... guess I'll be talking to some lil ppl with badges in the morning...lol...now I just gotta figure out what to do with the damn thing....

| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/13/2008 1:23:19 AM | if they are defenateley stray cats, why dont you try to come to some sort of an agreement, with your naighbour, why you try and find them new homes. you could steal the trap, but she is gonna know it was you, and take steps for it to stay in place when she gets the next one, plus it is not really nice to fall out with your naighbours, as differcult as it might be sometimes. if she dosnt like them on her propety, witch is understandable, because they do dig gardens up etc, why dont you get her some cat repellant for now.
but as i say make shure they are strays first, cs cats are not daft at all. there is a lady in my naighbourhood who feeds strays with scaraps from her kitchen, and of corse my cat bill thought, wow, this is great, and alot more intresting then catfood, this went on, till the lady approached me, asking me if id booted him out, because he eats all the strays food, and they are scared of him, lol, he is a big persian. so i had to keep him in for a few days, and now have to make shure he allways goes out on a full belly.

| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/13/2008 1:53:49 AM | ya'll can keep a secret, right?..lol...be just my luck to have some ass who works for animal control, in my town, be on here...lol.. me & my neighbor both have flower gardens that are just fine... I figure if they show up at my house starving & scared of ppl...yeah, it's safe to assume they are feral...I even had cats that came around rarely to eat, bring me a sick kitten, set it in my driveway...& look at me like...ok, we need your help...weird.... I've spent too much money & time on these lil angels to let some old hag with no life destroy them... being nice doesn't work....she's hated me the whole time I've lived here & I have no idea why...(I didn't have cats to begin with)...except lately, I've been waving to her....cause she never waves back...she just stands there & stares...which just makes me wave harder....guess I shouldn't done that...horrible me for waving... she's so mean....she asked my neighbor how she could stand all these kids....right in front of her 3 kids & some others.... I like the idea of the cat repellent....I'll say that tomorrow when she's screaming at me... | |
|
| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/13/2008 2:02:03 AM | that doesn't make sense....they are right there all the time by my flowers & my other next door neighbor....only a couple times have I seen one of mine in her yard...& her flowers look just fine.... & so what if they use the bathroom in them anyway...I would think that would be good fertilizer... I think she just needs something to hate...& she has this ocd with her grass....she won't even let her own grandchildren play in her yard... | |

| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/13/2008 2:57:17 AM | | I see cats playing m my yard. They are no problem. One thing that does bother me is they will get on the window seal to see my cats. If I am not expecting it, its scares me. I think someone is trying to break in. Call me crazy, but when I see a cat in my yard, I talk to it.I think there should be something you could do about her putting tuna out to lure them. That is just wrong.I would suggest you replace to tuna with snake f00d, but that would not be fair to snakes either. Why dont you just put a huge rubber snake it the cage. That would scare her for a few seconds anyway. God luck what ever you do. | |

| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/13/2008 4:27:48 AM | | They are your strays not your neighbours, so what she likes a nice clean garden, she has probably worked hard on it and your happy to let your cats go in there, they are your responsibility not her's,. I fully understand where your neighbour is coming from. She has no cats why should she have yours?? | |
|
| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/13/2008 4:48:49 AM | Although I'm not for any type of cruelty to animals, and don't agree with what she's doing to trap the cats, I can definitely understand where your neighbor is coming from. I have a neighbor that collects stray cats also, and its a pain in the ass to clean up the mess they make when they get in my garbages (I do put them in bins, but they get into them anyway) and in my flower beds..
I understand what you're trying to do, I really do, but you really aren't going to be a fave among your neighbors by continuing this. You really want to keep them all? Take care of them and make sure they stay on your side of the fence.. See if there is some way you can keep them, where they can be taken care of and not stray into other peoples yards, OR, find some good homes for them...
You really aren't doing them a favour by continuing this, they'll just multiply and you'll have more and more every year, not to mention the risk of them getting into danger when they really aren't part of a household....JMO

| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/13/2008 4:52:49 AM | Have you talked to Animal Control and found out what your legal rights and responsibilities are in this matter ? You've said she's not a next door neighbor but lives down the street. I suggest you put a collar with a tag on your cats to identify which ones are actually yours. I don't know for sure, but baiting a trap could be construed as luring and stealing your pet. If she puts out a baited trap, she's likely to get more than the cats she is bargaining for. There are lots of other bigger and wilder animals who like tuna too. You'd be surprised at what critters are lurking around you don't know about. | |

Why is the idiot trying to trap your cats? Maybe she just really likes Chinese food.
I don't hate cats, but I can never quite eat a whole one.
To be serious, my neighbors also have a bunch of cats and that are pests. To save on gas, I have always tried to ride with my windows down as opposed to using the AC. I also like to leave them down when my car is in my driveway since the car is not as hot when I get in it later. But those dang cats get in my car and play. This is really annoying. Especially sense I am allergic to them.
I also have a problem with them getting into, or at least trying to get into my garbage. I upgraded garbage cans to one with a more secure lid, but then the garbage guy broke the lid. So now I have to buy a new one and it's all because of their cats.
I have also seen those cats eating the dog food from the back yards of other neighboring houses.
They also climb on cars and leave paw prints that have to be washed every other day for people who really care about their cars.
There are tons of ways that an outdoor cat can annoy people, and for that reason owners of outdoor cats should not live in neighborhoods. They should live in the country where the cats are much less likely to annoy others. These owners have little consideration for others and think that just because they have decided to take on the burden of having cats, that everyone around them should as well. Well guess what? The owners are the only ones getting the enjoyment out of having them. Everyone else is just getting the grief.
Your neighbor doesn't need any reason to put a cage in her yard to keep YOUR pets (aka Pests) out. If you are claiming ownership of these animals then you are also to take responsibility for them. If you are not claiming ownership for them as they are strays, then she has the right to deal with them as strays.

| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/13/2008 5:29:00 AM | I don't want to take a side on this, so I am neutral.
But Tee and RSwindle have each have some valid points re: stray cat laws and probs.
What you are doing may already be illegal, since in some areas, you could be prosecuted for animal neglect (in not getting the animals vaccinated, neutered, or kept on your property.) There are also laws re: how many pets you can have per household)
If animal control is called to your house for any of these issues, you could end up fined or in jail! So, please be careful, and at least keep the cats inside your fence.
We had one lady in our neighborhood who put out food for cats. The neighbors got really mad at her because of the damage the cats were doing to their property, and alienation of some of their pets. The cats were tearing shingles off their roofs, moving to their garages, and leaving odors, etc. They were also worried about the unvacccinated cats potntially getting rabies and biting their kids. Plus some of the cats had kittens, and the little ones died some pretty sad deaths.
Some did trap the cats and called the police and had her prosecuted.
Also, the cat traps are gov't property, so please don't destroy them, you could also get in trouble for that.
I tried to stay out of it. But one of the cats had his tail cut completely off -- by a neghborhood kid-- no doubt. It left a bloody scar. The cat couldn't walk properly after that, and was obviously in pain. I cried when I saw it. Sorry, but my BF took him to a shelter for abused animals.
Also: to other posters -- animals HATE the smell of amonia. If you spray it on the perimeter of your yard, they won't be harmed. But they won't come in your yard, either.

| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/13/2008 5:36:55 AM | I have this problem for a few years now.
I acutally trap them and bring them to the Humane Society and let them take care of them.
For anyone that lets there animal run free is dangerous and bad for the cat. They multiply like crazy. One cate can make a litter every three months and so on . I believe one cat can produce up too 100,000 cats in it's life time. JMO!

| need advice..fixing to do something illegal Posted: 6/13/2008 6:05:09 AM | I believe that a person has a RIGHT to solve critter problems on their own property, therefore side with the neighbor. (and I am an indoor cat owner and a fenced in dog owner)
However...
What's the difference between feeding wild feral cats vs feeding the squirrels? I live 'in town' and my ground squirrel feeders also attract coons and deer. A wild feral cat is a wild animal just like any other wild animal. Therefore I dont see any problem with her feeding wild feral cats.
