| HALUSKA/Cabbage and Noodles Posted: 6/13/2008 7:09:43 AM | My mom always had this when cabbage was in season. We were HUNGARIAN and also this was served at about every wedding we went to: 1. 5 to8 lb . head of cabbage 2. 1 lb. salted Butter 3. 4 to 6 cloves Garlic. 4. 5 lbs. 1/2 inch wide egg noodles 5. 1 or 2 yellow cooking onion about 1 lb.=DICE Sautee cabbage in Butter and cabbage in fry pan with lid. Cut cabbage in half and then cut in 1/2 inch wide ribbons. Add cleaned ,garlic to Butter and cook cabbage and cover , will form a steam cook like a stir fry. Sautee onion w/cabbage and butter. Boil noodles till cooked. Drain and rinse. Mix in large serving pan add last 1/2 lb of butter melted to final mixture. Salt and pepper to taste. Seems to be like stuffed cabbage the more you reheat the better the flavor. | |
