| CFL football Posted: 6/14/2008 4:34:37 PM | | I went to my very first live game last night and it was totally awesome to just be there. To see all the avid fans. It was cloudy and rainy but the families there with all the blankets etc was just awesome to see. They make the best hamburgers there! We sat close to the field and it was a great spot.....well, Stamps won vs Eskimos....39 to 14....I know it is preseason...but still awesome!! anyone else a fan? | |

| CFL football Posted: 6/14/2008 5:20:53 PM | | OK...there is not a one in this area that has even a spec of interest....Well if that is the case.......you are totally losing out....this team is awesome!! | |
|
| CFL football Posted: 6/14/2008 5:25:45 PM | Huge CFL fan! I think this is my 9th year with seasons tickets, and November in Montreal will be my 7th Grey Cup.
Not a bad game last night, hope that the team that played last night can maintain that enthusiasm for the season!!
The only thing better than beating the green and yellow is beating the green and white. Oh or the ultimate, beating those pesky Lions! Glad to see the Riders do that last night!
|
| CFL football Posted: 6/14/2008 9:00:01 PM | | The atmosphere was totally awesome last night. Hey, and the burgers there. OMG....the best! I would definitely go again and again! | |

I've sat in the stands at Commonwealth on numerous occasions to cheer for the Esks ... even made a few roads to Calgary to watch them tangle with the Stamps. Going to a game is just a hoot ... I've scored some duckets to my first game this season (Saskatchewan next week) and am highly looking forward to this.
You might know of this already, but the Eskimos run something called "Football 101" - it's a class designed specifically for women who want to learn more about the game and the gridiron ... might be something you could look into ...
GO ESKIES!!!! | |
|
| CFL football Posted: 6/15/2008 10:44:31 AM | Stampeders also host a women only evening - "It's a snap", generally held in May though, so missed for this year!
It is a great opportunity to meet and greet with the players, tour the locker room, run some scrimmages, and of course get some basic instruction on the wonderful CFL game!
|
| CFL football Posted: 6/15/2008 10:48:52 AM | When I moved to Canada I had a hard time understanding CFL as it is different from NFL. And as much as I love(d) to tease seasoned CFL fans about their whacky rules I have come to love the game. I do attend the Stamps games on a regular basis and have even converted my oldest kidlet into a football fan. | |

| CFL football Posted: 6/15/2008 9:14:44 PM | Took the monsters to a couple of Esks games last year. I've always enjoyed football, but only make one or two games a year (and the occassional trek to Cowtown for the Labour Day Classic).
The monsters both loved it and the eldest wants us to get season tickets this year. I have a hard time with the schedule. If I recall, for the first half of the season every home game is on a Thurs night. I guess it's not so bad as the monsters aren't in school, but they still have to rise before 6am so mom can go to work. We'll try to make some weekend games.

| CFL football Posted: 7/11/2009 2:55:30 PM | Hmmm, maybe this is really the thread to resurrect!
So Montreal and Saskatchewan are the only two teams to be 2-0. Big surprises (for most) is the Stamps and BC being 0-2.
Very pleased to see Hamilton beat those pesky Lions last night (didn't pick that win in my pool) And didn't watch, but listened to the Riders game in Toronto. (also didn't pick that one!) It's only week 2, but already it is shaping up to be an interesting season.
Next weeks line-up; BC @ EE, TOR @ CGY, MTL @ SK, WPG @ HA
|
| CFL football Posted: 7/11/2009 4:20:48 PM | Aye, Calgary and BC being 0-2 is really shocking, especially BC who will be 0-3 after their next game :)
Calgary really needs to be able to beat Toronto, Montreal should continue its ways and blow out Saskatchewan and I can actually see Hamilton winning two games in a row. Wow, how shocking would that be, Hamilton with a winning record.
This is why I love the CFL, you just have no idea what each season will bring.

| CFL football Posted: 7/11/2009 6:21:05 PM | | Go Riders Go The Riders have the best fans !!! | |
|
| CFL football Posted: 7/12/2009 1:32:54 PM | | ill have to agree, ive had my seats since the doom and gloom days ,tailgating in the parking lot when hardly anyone went to the games, but i must admit when it was a game with the riders there were always some good laughs as there fans are the best i would like to say calgary fans are but in my opinion ,rider fans rank number one.Hopefully the game comming up the sit burris out and let this guy get some playing time in as we really need to give him some more shots at this.i think its time we started getting serious about replaycing burris,he is to unpredictable and caould nver be consistent, hes either off or on,and lately just has not shown anything good.maybe there are some internal problems going on we dont know about within the team as he has been just terrible, anyone else played likek that they would have punted them | |
|
| CFL football Posted: 7/18/2009 3:47:34 PM | With three of the four Week3 games done, I am finally looking good for my pool!!
Silly Eskimo`s spoiled it for me though (2 out of 3 correct). Why didn`t they spank those pesky Lions?
I`ve got Hamilton for the last game, hoping they have hung onto the enthusiasm they played with last week! 3 games correct makes me a possible winner!
Nice to see the Stamps play with a little passion last night. Maybe a bit too much, what was it four major penalties (and 16 total penalties if I am not mistaken). Regardless I will happily acknowledge a win for the Red and White. Must admit I wasn`t fond of the gold pants as part of their retro uniform though.
|
| CFL football Posted: 7/19/2009 10:27:32 AM | Wow, I didn't think there would be anyone in the world who would pick Hamilton to win 2 games in a row, and then actually be right.
Looks like this was the week of the blowouts and good for BC and Calgary to have themselves a nice dominating win. It would be nice though to actually see some sort of improvement from my Esks but they just seem to get worse and worse each game thus far. I am really not looking forward to the Saskatchewan game this week and then having to follow it up sitting through us being smoked by Montreal.
Well I am not in a pool, I will go with some picks here. Montreal over Hamilton. Toronto over Winnipeg, Saskatchewan over Edmonton and for BC vs Calgary, it is a toss-up. If BC puts in Jackson as quarterback, they win it. If they go with Pierce, hand the win to Calgary.
|
| CFL football Posted: 7/19/2009 10:57:40 AM | And who does Edmonton start? And does it matter? Man, that defence is just brutal! Maciocia is proving to be every bit as good a GM as he was a coach. If he doesn't get some help in the defensive secondary soon, the Esks will be the laughing stock of the league this year. And he has to sign a running back. That Whitlock is awful. Could Joe Smith be any worse? I'm shocked in every way at how the Eskimos season has started. (well, other than Lumsden going down... I don't think that shocked ANYONE) | |
|
| CFL football Posted: 7/30/2009 3:28:05 PM | All I can say is "I hope my prediction's wrong about this one. *fingers crossed*
Go Esks!
Edit: Kind of a strange call last game but it's nice when the refs make an iffy/odd call that's GOOD for your team once in a while. (awesome comeback BTW)
|
| CFL football Posted: 7/30/2009 3:39:05 PM | I missed putting in my pool entries last night. Too bad I don't get even more reminders! LOL (actually I get 2 or 3 on 2 different emails, so tongue firmly in cheek)
FWIW: Mtl, BC, Wpg, Cgy
And then to top it off, my long weekend plans have changed, and I already sold my tickets, so may miss the game on Saturday
Maybe take the opportunity to go camping (where though?). Or get ready for the garage sale. Or do yard work.
Kick off for the first game of the week, 7 pm.
|
| CFL football Posted: 7/30/2009 10:39:33 PM | That was a great game! Edmonton turns into the giant slayers! Whodathunkit? | |
|
| CFL football Posted: 7/30/2009 11:35:56 PM | | I was there and I still don't believe it. I don't know who I was watching but it didn't seem to be the Eskimos I have watched all season. The bad penalties were gone, the defence stepped up and stopped people. They made the first tackle instead of the 2nd or 3rd try at a guy. It was a good time though, like it always is :) | |
|
| CFL football Posted: 7/31/2009 7:10:59 AM | | Yup, pretty impressive showing alright. It was looking like the Als were back for a second feeding in the first quarter but the Esks took their lumps and just kept the scoreboard in check. Next thing I knew they were rallying unanswered. The 4th was a bit of a nailbiter but it kept one on the edge of their seats. Rector's hands were lookin' impressive. (too bad about his turnover. C'est la vie) Much of the team was impressive last night actually. | |
|
| CFL football Posted: 8/1/2009 10:52:10 AM | Another week of CFL is 1/2 over. The game that matters to me is 7 hours away!
Really enjoyed the BC/Hamilton game, of course if you know me, you know I love any game where the pesky Lions get spanked. Watching that Cobb play is truly exciting though! Gonna have to read up on where he came from! Nice to see that the weary Tabby fans have something to smile about (so far) this year!
Anyway, Go Stamps Go!!
Will bore you with more of my thoughts after the second 1/2 of the week is over!
|
| CFL football Posted: 8/2/2009 5:01:43 PM | What! Nobody rubbing my nose in the Stampeder loss? Thank you very much, I appreciate that!!
Great game though!! I didn't go (I had a better offer), but I listened to it on the radio.
I would be curious as to who was responsible for the play calling in that last minute. I get why Burris long bombed the first one, but then why not just go to short little dump passes or something - just move the markers, why try 3 times for the huge pass. Oh well. I just cheer!
Doesn't matter much that I missed my pool picks (will at the end of the year though, *grumblegrumble*) I only got one game right out of the 4!!
|
| CFL football Posted: 8/13/2009 9:56:19 PM | That was one of the best games I've seen! Top Guns airing out that ball. More than a thousand yards in offense.
The outcome sucked, but Stamps must play 60 minutes, not 59!!
Wonder what the rest of the weekend will bring?
|
| CFL football Posted: 8/13/2009 10:11:49 PM | I was at the game and it was absolutely amazing. I have never heard that building anywhere near as loud as it was for that last 2 minutes. My throat still hurts. That game really shows how much more exciting the CFL can be over the NFL.
And of course the right team won. GO ESKS!! :)
|
| CFL football Posted: 8/14/2009 5:19:49 AM | What an unbelievable finish! Eskies are killing me in my office pool (I've only got their game right once this year), but who cares. That was excellent... and yes, the right team won. | |
