Thoughts on this weekend's US Open?

I was rooting for Rocco Mediate from the begining (I love to pick an underdog) so am thrilled to see him playing Tiger in another 18 tomorrow.

Was sad to see Westwood miss the final putt to tie it up. He's such a dreamboat. (So sue me...i'm a chick...I have to have eye candy to keep me interested, sometimes.)

I think Rocco had his chance and blew it on the final two holes.

But then again Tiger can't play the first 3 holes woth a crap so Rocco should have the lead early tomorrow but should play to win.

I completely agree with you on Rocco having blown his chances. I definitely think Tiger will come out victorious tomorrow.

You're right about the first three holes, though. He has had a really bad weekend with the starting holes. If he chokes on them again tomorrow, Rocco might have a chance. I think it will be decided on 9 and 10, where the two good birdie chances are.

I still really would love to see Rocco come out on top, tomorrow. He has played on 43 majors and never won. Tiger has won so many times he doesn't know what it feels like to lose...let someone else win, for crying out loud!

It's more than that. Rocco had to qualify with a bunch of 18 yr old guys and barely made the tourney. Hopefully he wins since everyone likes glass slippers, expecially versus the #1 player in the world one on one.

I hope that both guys play a good round, and they have to take chances to win. I don't want it to be won because one of them fall apart.

I think Rocco has a legit shot because he is mentally tough.

If I had to bet my house on it, I have to put it on Tiger.

The overhyping of tigers knee was out of control...It was sickining...you would have thought listening to the announcers that tiger shot a 65 and rocco shot a 80...rocco hit some very big shots, but you never heard about it....rocco has been dealing with back problems for the last 5 years, yet all you heard was that tiger was bob gibson, and kirk gibson wrapped into one...I know its tiger woods, but cmon the overhyping was out of control....let me give you a quote from johnny miller (who I cant f-n stand)

"rocco looks like he should be cleaning tigers pool"...i realize he was trying to be funny, and I didnt take it seriously, but really?....what if that had been said about tiger?..the media, and the "pc" people would have been all over it...

lots of drama yesterday, I will give the that, but tigers knee got more playing time than rocco's pretty good round...

Four holes left and all tied up at +1...

Well they certainly ended it with excitement.

I was out for lunch today, and insisted on eating at a place where I knew i'd be able to watch the begining of the playoff.

I literally jumped out of my chair when Rocco almost aced the third hole. I may or may not have yelled "Oh my God!" as well. lol

Needless to say, my girlfriends thought I was in need of some help. I spent the rest of the day trying to overhear on the radio what was going on. I heard even at 14, and nothing after that until the sudden death. How freaking exciting!

I am still kind of bummed that Tiger won it though.

Tiger deserved the win. I was shocked when he was up 3 with 8 left and almost blew it.

I can't believe 65K showed up to watch two guys play. Doesn't anyone in San Diego havea job?

To date, this one will go down as Tiger's best Major Championship win. It had everything, his injured knee, the rust from not playing in nine weeks all while playing on his home course when he was a kid. You couldn't have asked for a better ending than that.

That said I felt bad for Rocco. I was pulling hard for him and though he had a chance to put Woods away with that putt on 18 it was too much. But I was glad to see that his spirit was good. The smile was all over his face during the activity immediately after play stopped, and pretty much remained throughout. Tiger had some kind words for him during his post-round interview.

Who knows, the way this one went, Tiger may have to skip the British Open which might just leave the door open for Mr Mediate!

I thought that it was 25,000.

Anyways, epic playoff. Tiger hit two amazing shots at the sudden death hole which pretty much ended it. Once Mediate went astray with the first he was always going to struggle.

Tiger said he was going to take a break for a while. Well deserved. Doesn't he have a baby to spend time with? Let someone else win!

Whew, I hear 65K on the radio last night coming home. Now it's down to 12 this morning. Either way, get a job people!

If he gets his knee scoped this week he has no choice but to take time off. He'll be on the shelf for 2-3 weeks probably which means the Open is the first tourney he can think about playing.

It was announced today that Tiger will be having additional knee surgery and will be out for the season.

Small part from the AP report...

Woods revealed Wednesday he has been playing for at least 10 months with a torn ligament in his left knee, and that he suffered a double stress fracture in his left leg two weeks before the U.S. Open. He said he will have season-ending surgery, knocking him out of the final two majors and the Ryder Cup.

“Now, it is clear that the right thing to do is to listen to my doctors, follow through with this surgery and focus my attention on rehabilitating my knee,” Woods said on his Web site.

This was the first golf tournament I've ever watched, and at the time I didn't realize Tiger was playing AMA. Is he crazy? What would make someone like him do such a thing~I can't imagine what a guy like him has to prove in the world of golf.

Didn't he think about his future? What the heck was so important about this tourney?

Oh well, hope it all works out for him at any rate
