| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 2:53:38 AM | Studies have shown that men prefer women with a waist to hip ratio of 0.7, calculated using this formula:
waist measurement ÷ hip measurement = ratio.
What is yours and do you think having a ratio outside of this has affected your sucess in relationships?

I agree with Honey nut... This is crap...
Ladies figures are all different shapes and sizes... Some men prefer slim women, and others prefer curvy women...which is there choice... I personaly think that more men are going for a curvy woman than a slim one!!

| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 3:20:04 AM | I've known great big fat blobs of women to pull really handsome slim tall men.
and ive known women with a decent size figure not getting anywhere meeting people, and ive known big fat blobs of men dating skinny supermodel types with no figure at all....
all i can say is.....
Go Figure! me?

This ratio seems to apply whatever the woman's overall weight. A group of researchers even compared this ratio with the average ratio of Miss America winners over the years. It was exactly the same.

| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 4:29:03 AM | this a polarised thread and title. I've had a good read of the rules lately ( had detention) so I'm clued up on what the rulers will and won't allow. apart from the studies being utter rubbish and were probably gathered from a group of teenage office workers who have more to do at work than the job they are hired to do. | |

| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 4:43:45 AM | Well the theory is true if all men want a woman with a jessica rabbit type figure.
As a woman with hips of 34" which is about a size 10 would have to have a waist of 23.8" which is the average waist size of a 10yr old child!.
I offer my sincere good luck to all men on their quest for this figure

| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 4:55:18 AM | i have a 25" waist and 32" hips so that makes 0.78
edit: i dont think this is the perfect size, well at least not for me, buying clothes that dont make me look 10 is a b*tch, although
the most common comment i get from men is "oh my god, i'd be scared i'd break you" which is not what a girl wants to hear lol

| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 5:24:09 AM | WTF???????
Oh well thats me stuffed then, my maths is terrible!
Im quite sure im not in the said "ratio" and my "curves" have a "ratio" of their own, but i can assure you that it hasnt seemed to effect my pulling power! Perhaps that is because my personality is off the scale though lol
Horses for courses isnt it!

| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 5:38:26 AM | I don't have a tape measure handy but I remeber seeing this article a while ago and doing the matha and I think I was about 0.69. Perfectly proprtioned apparently!
This study wasn't about size but proportion. Apparently Kelly Brooke has this ratio too.
I think there is an element of truth in it, the most aesthetically pleasing figure for me to look at, male or female, is one that is all in proportion, not massively bigger on top to bottom and vice versa. That's not say I wouldn't find someone not proportionally perfect attractive, just that subconsciously as humans we prefer to look at those who are.

I agree though womens waists have gotten larger over the years, and i dont mean weight gain but body shape on the whole has changed.i would consider myself to be both slim and in proportion yet my measurement came out at 0.82.
do you think having a ratio outside of this has affected your sucess in relationships?
No,not one bit,but having a smart mouth does...oops.

| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 5:53:24 AM | I thought this was common knowledge? Marilyn Monroe and Kate Moss share this ratio, it's got nothing to do with how thin you are, it's a ratio - the figures could be anything so long as they divide out to .7. There is a reason for it, as women get older, and are less likely to give birth to healthy children, their hip-waste ratio increases, therefore men are instincively drawn to women with a lower ratio, the optimum being .7.
Mine's .79 I don't know if it's helped or hindered my finding a partner, afterall it can't laugh at your jokes and keep you warm at night - it's the person behind the ratio that does that.

| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 5:58:05 AM | The best proportioned women are from the West Indies - not 'Afro-Caribbean' please. African women are different.
White women tend to be pear shaped e.g. 14 top 18 bottom.
'All arse and no tit' is the phrase I use - but they're 'cuddly' nonetheless..............and get loads of pm's (apparently)

I think there is more than an element of truth in the above statement. In fact Its pretty much hit the nail on the head. Very well put.

| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 8:15:19 AM | Hmmm, is this a slow news day?
Well just for the record my ratio is 0.81 ....... that's waist to hip ....... and waist to bust .... I always thought I was top heavy, seems not!
"OT My figure erm .......... I aint got the foggiest in ratio but I got a nice ass !!"
Does that mean the piles are all cleared up now?

| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 8:28:51 AM | I remember a study that said women's shape have started to change since the 50s. Linked to the modern diet I think, that the hips were getting smaller or the waist bigger. But the old hourglass figure was slowly eroding.
On the nature of attraction I saw a doc on the telly that said people are attracted to symmetry, and that those with plain features but of identical symmetry scored highest on their points system.

| Ladies figures Posted: 6/17/2008 8:33:44 AM | I have to say that I don't really care what ratio a womans figure is. I don't think they should either.
I have been out with women ranging from 6ft tall right down to 5ft tall. They have been anything between size 10 and size 16. What mattered was that the person as a "whole package" did it for me. Surely it must be the same for women too.
One funny story comes to mind from a few years ago. I had been injured playing football so had put on a little bit of extra weight. The guys from the team were taking the mickey out of me about it in the pub after an away game. A lovely young lady came along sat down beside me. She told them all to leave me alone and much to everyones surprise, especially mine, she laid her head on my tummy looked up at the other guys and told them "I think it's sexy, it's my love pillow"
