| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/17/2008 10:58:23 AM | If you could pick any job or career , what would you choose to do for a living and why ? Maybe something you've always wanted to do but never had the chance / opportunity. Something your really good at it and enjoy doing but don't have the necessary qualification.
I would love to be a stand up comedian . The only stumbling block I could foresee in me taking up a career in comedy would be the fact that I suffer stage fright and I'm not that funny.Other than that I think I would be a roaring success. What a great way to make a living though. Making people laugh has to be the best feeling in the world [excluding the obvious]. My second choice would be a gynaecologist [ for obvious reasons ]

| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/17/2008 11:11:43 AM | LOL...I don't think most Gynos choose to be such for the same "obvious reasons" as yours! And personally...I think that would be one nasty job! LOL Think about it...sorry to ruin the fantasy for you...but you get the fuglies, the fatties, the nasties, the diseased, the oozing, and...well, you get my point! ;O) Not to mention it is just plain weird to think your Gyno is drooling over you! LOL
My absolute dream job would be hosting a show such as Dirty Jobs or one of the foodie shows like Anthony Bourdaines! :O))))
I have always written...whether it be freelance or for expression or fun...but would love to have a regular job such as a writer for a funny sitcom...something like, "Still Standing" or even "Roseanne" sort...family, couples, relationship humor. :O)
I actually had my dream career for a while...working with the disabled, whether it was physical or mental, VERY gratifying...doing career and educational assessments, career exploration, job development, coaching, etc...and I LOVED IT. Problem is...a lot of the funding for such is reliant upon state and federal funds...so lay offs are common. :O(
If I could do something for just one day...no repercussions or special skills needed, I think it would be cool to be a singer, a surgeon, a porn star, or a talk show host!

Most the jokes you put up here make me laugh. But then I'm not really a good sounding board.
As for careers I haven't got a clue. I have no doubt that I will be changing mine soon. I am so fed up with IT. The only problem is I don't know what to do.
I would love to do something that helps others

| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/17/2008 11:29:32 AM | myself as boring as it may seem to others i am itching to get back behind the wheel and become a driver again but this time i want to be in the bendy ones ( no not buses ) artics ... Just something about the fact it is just you in the space and you are in control of your destination ( yes i know that you have certain jobs to do ) but its just being out there and nothing is ever the same any day even if it is the same route day in and day out ......
mind you my dream growing up was to be an astronaut and to be shot into space and when i divulged this information to my father he replied " Your dream nearly come true son If your mother had not been drunk that evening you would have been shot into space"

| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/17/2008 11:34:46 AM | I started in accountancy, hated it! Changed career after having my kids and they were self sufficient (i married and had kids young) went back to college in my early 30's and qualified as an electrician. Absolutely loved it!
But then in '93 after my "accident" i didn't know what to do with myself,i could no longer work as an electrician, so, whilst recovering i started to read psychology. then did some courses in counselling (trauma/abuse and bereavement). but found it SO fulfilling i went on to do more and more including hypnotherapy, (not going to say what else). and here i am today. completely happy. It's taken me almost 13 years, but, i love what i do. seeing the spark come back into someone's eyes, when they have been so depressed/abused/hurt. is absolutely bloody amazing!

You've certainly changed my mind and ruined the fantasy on my second choice. I hadn't thought It through fully. Having done so, after reading your gross yet informative and thought provoking comments, Ive now decided to put that idea on the back burner.
If I could do something for just one day...no repercussions or special skills needed, I think it would be cool to be a singer, a surgeon, a porn star, or a talk show host!
I think all the above require very special skills and very few people would have the talent to perform those jobs successfully. I think Its fair to say a botched operation would very likely have severe repercussions The good news for you though Farley Hat, is I'd be willing to let you perform as my co-star in my new porn production . Your on the short list for the starring role. Casting will begin shortly. I'll keep you informed.
(Johnny you would make a fab wedding singer [but a fecking appalling groom, lol]
Awgh thanks Kath. But I would prefer to make people laugh by telling jokes than making myself a laughing stock. If I wanted to that , I'd become a stripper ......

| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/17/2008 2:00:58 PM | Well I trained as a hairdresser at 15, then went into the metals industry which I've been in for 33 years I always wanted to be a forensic pathologist until I realised i'd have to deal with maggots i'd have liked to run a cattery....but also soon realised its a 24/7 career.
But I think I'd like to be a cosmetic surgeon, not for the rich and famous but for the people born with defects, I think that would be very satisfying

| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/17/2008 2:31:13 PM | | I wanted to be a train driver when I was a youngster. I'm no longer a youngster but I may go chasing that dream in the next year or so but the problem is that I'm stuck in a rut with my current job and it's the only one that I've ever done since leaving school. | |

| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/17/2008 2:36:39 PM | I'd be a Harrier Pilot. Always loved aeroplanes and flying and there's something special about the Harrier, which I've often seen at air shows. I've actually had a 30 minute flying lesson with a friend of mine in a Cessna 192 where I got to do the take off and landing as well as most of the flying, so just need to do the "jump" over to jets now lol.
My dream of flying in a Harrier may never come true (unless I win the lottery of course) but one day I will get my private pilots licence.

| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/17/2008 3:15:26 PM | I'd love to have been a pilot but never studied enough at school to do it.
I have flown light aircraft, gliders and helicopters for a hobby but never quite got round to getting a PPL or a PPL(H)... maybe one day. I adore flying helicopters, a real challenge!
I'm so proud of my Nephew, he's 25 and recently qualified to fly the Airbus A320. He's now a co-pilot for Niki Air (Niki Lauda's airline), and is based in Vienna.

| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/17/2008 8:50:44 PM | | My dream job? Assuming I actually had to do a job (I dream of being rich and lazy, but then don't we all?) I would probably wish to be a networks specialist. Preferably on the design and build side of it rather than the support side. I'm working my way up there, slowly. As to the why, I enjoy getting things to work, and networks can vary in size and complexity so much that building such networks would never be the same from one job to the next. And I understand computers so much better than I understand people (as sad as that is) | |

| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/17/2008 11:33:46 PM | I was fairly bright at school and good at maths so encouraged down that route and did my degree in Business and Finance...and I should not complain- being an accountant has given me a lot. Had I been to a more enlightened school where the "arts" were not just for thick kids I would probably have studied history of fashion and textiles and now be working for a pittance in the BBC costume department...
I always wanted to be a writer, and have spent the last twenty years gaining experiences, stories and insights needed. I have had a play produced by the World Service, and a few short stories published. I have written a 120,000 word novel which I will send to an agent when I am satisfied with it. I am currently working on a film script...it has great potential...

| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/18/2008 8:24:30 AM | Hmm there are loads of jobs I would love! Think I would like to be a singer - how fab it must be to play to a huge crowd and stop singing and thousands of people continue singing your song!! What a rush!
Only thing standing in my way is that I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket! Ah well - back to work I suppose.

| If you could choose any job/career, which one would you choose and why ? Posted: 6/18/2008 12:19:18 PM | If anything was possible, a professional ballet dancer, but as I am 5'10 and around 11stone 5+(depending on the time of year) the poor bloke that would have to lift me up would end up in hospital with a tripple hernia(not sure how to write it, but you get my drift)
If age would not matter, a make up artist, you know they guys that make those brilliant masks etc. in the films. Now that would be my dream job.
As it goes, will start a sign language course soon and hope to find a job that will make a difference.
My second choice would be a gynaecologist [ for obvious reasons ]
Dont let them discourage you, you can make sure only the fit birds get an appointmenty and once you have treated them, you at least can be sure they are healthy. Win, win situation. xx
