I think Kentville would be better because it is the center of the valley.

Maybe we should think about "Legends" because it is not that far from "Sherwood Forest" camp ground. Just a thought .

Hi there

In regards to holding a dance for POF,you may want to check out the Kentville Legion. I know they have no functions in the dance hall on a Friday night and would most likely be willing to rent it out for a nominal fee.The dance hall can hold 250 people comfortably and they have a nice large dance floor so lots of folk would be able to dance without being crammed together like a bunch of sardines in a can.LOL
For more information you can call the Legion directly at 678 8935 and the bartender should be able to give you all the info you need. If for some reason you speak to someone who can't help you, please let me know and I'll see what I can find out for you.:)

Best of luck!

So far the legion has dances on sat. They play country, live band but have a limit of 160 people, usaually get 100 on their own . Having it on friday we would have to rent the hall which is not a option, Trying to get a hold of legends to check them out. will let you know more when I find out.

Yes the Legion does have dances on Sat nights with a live band that plays country music. However, they don't have a limit of 160 people .As I stated in my first post, the hall is capable of holding 250 people.I've been a member of the Kentville Legion for 26 years and have never heard of the 160 people rule.
I'll leave you the name and phone number of the current dance chairman and if you like you can contact him directly in regards to what they might charge for the rental of the hall,I don't believe it's an astronimical amount.*smiles*
By you talking to him directly, you be able to get all the info first hand and then you will have it for future reference.

Sincerely,
Sharon(uniqueoneNS)

I think if you are going to have a dance here in the valley I think you should be looking at having it at a more public venue like Legends(Coldbrook), Village Pub (Coldbrook), Paddy's (Kentville) , Kings arms (Kentville) , or there is also a place in Wolfville but I forget the name of the place but Chocolate also DJ's there so we could use him again there. These places play more up to date music and I think will draw a bigger crowd. Legion will limit who will want to go. Just my thoughts.

Legends would do for the size , but you would have to rent it out if, you did not want the young crowd and I doubt if they would rent it out on a weekend night. Paddys and the Village Pub do not have much room if you want to dance. The Legion seems more ideal you could probably hire a D.J. for the music.
This should soon be planned before (sorry to say it) the snow starts flying

You do not want to limit what age you want there. There are people from all age on POF. Renting a place is out of the question because some one would have to rent it and if not a lot of people come then that means that person would have to go good for the shortages. Paddy's would be good for a meet and greet. Kings Arms is quite large when you include Taps upstairs.I know for sure that if it was held at the legion you would be limiting who would go. We want all ages to be there.
What is wrong with a bit of snow? I have travelled to the city for their dances many time when the snow was flying. We are from the valley and a little bit of snow does not scare me.

Still checking but agree with country girl legion will limit the people and because of the music the age groups as well. It is better to have assorted music not one type. I diid call the guy in charge of the dances at the legion and he is the one that said 160 people not 250. I will check the rest of the places and hopefully have something firm for next week . Are there any dates in mind when you would like a dance say sept.

Yes, according to POF rules no one should have to have a financial obligation. If it's classified as a POF event. It's easy for people to say that it would cost little, but unless you are willing to put up the money don't suggest that!!

Now, based on the Bridgewater function, who would actually show? You have someone from Halifax organising a Valley event, much like Bridgewater, and hardly anyone from the local area shows up!
Personally, I feel the locals should look after their own events!!!!
I mean asking/expecting people from the city to look after you is totally ridiculous!!

Country Girl, you are the exception! :)

The Bars I mentioned range for sit down and chat bars to dances bars. Now how in the world do you (glansspurt) think these are the sluttiest bars in the whole province? Funny thing is these bars are local bars to the valley not the whole province.
Enchantment and I tried to get an event going here in the valley a year or so ago and only a few of us seem to find each other. I guess there were alot of other POFers there but the place was so busy it was hard to know whos who.

Well I just like to point out you suggested wherever the dance be held that it should be up to date music , there are I am sure POf's that would like older music (when music was good) a lot of music today is bee bop and as you pointed out POF is for all ages , so I guess it would have to a variety.

As for the snow I think it would keep some people away, not me , but others and it would be nice if there was a crowd show up.

Just my thoughs.

I agree with" is this 4real" on the music. Not all of us like the"up to date music" and if it's going to be for all ages of POF goers, then the music has to be of a vast selection in order to please everyone's preference...we all have varied tastes in life with music being no exception.
The snow may not keep some folks away but it definately puts a damper on things. I personally would much rather have a get together when the weather is nice;mid-to late Sept is always a good time has most people have settled back into a routine of sorts and are more open to going to a dance then they perhaps would have been during the summer. :)

Just my thoughts on the subject

I would like to mention that one awesome place to dance is at Dooley's in Greenwood. Only been there once but a very nice bar!

I hear you can dance in New Minas at West Side Charlie's but I've never been.

I am sure Legends Lounge in Kentville would be nice as well because the hotel is attached to it...

Make it happen and I will round up a few and make an effort to attend.
